Let's compre these two Prophet 5 Plugins You can watch a full review on both Softube: ruclips.net/video/Ud2Vlee_p4Q/видео.html Arturia: ruclips.net/video/AyZUColAE8o/видео.html
They seem close to each other. In a mix I doubt anyone would note any real difference. But the video still doesn't tell us how accurate they are to the actual synth...
To me they sound almost identical but as I never played the hardware synth I can’t say how close they are to the original. The aim of the video was to compare the plugins by sound and features.
@@UDiAudio I am yet to get one to try out either. the pro 53 had such a distinct flavour I really loved it and don't want to find a replacement because of the nostalgic memories of that thing xD I have been thinking about getting an old Laptop just to run my old Pro 53!! :D I will try out the Softube! cheers!
I find it strange that they are charing for every version update. My upgrade price from V Collection 8 is $299. Clearly, they took a page from the NI Komplete book. They are also offering me a $50 upgrade for the Model D, but not the Prophet, Either way, I'm done giving money to Arturia.
This is NOT a very good review because it does not explore much of the range of sounds that the Prophet 5 could produce. But it does show how generally crappy a synth it was. I bought one of the last new ones in Chicago back in the 80s, and I used it on a bunch of Chicago dance records, but I didn’t keep it much more than a year before selling it. Despite its reputation, it just could not produce very many interesting sounds in my opinion. Certainly not compared to other synthesizers of the time Like The Roland Jupiters or some of the Oberheims. Still, I think that the Arturia version is once again an excellent reproduction of the original hardware. But sometimes that’s not such a good thing. when the manufacturers want to start with a good reproduction of the original hardware and then add to it I always think that’s a good thing. The Prophet 5 made a handful of gorgeous sounds and a ton of crappy ones in my opinion, but that 5-voice limit really sucked and it popped up way more often than you might suspect. Honestly, having spent a ton of money on them in the 80’s, I feel there were only a handful of synths that actually sounded good, and they have endured. The super affordable soft synths of today are WAY BETTER!! It’s stunning how much better they all are. The drum machines too. But keep it up mate, I still think your videos have great value!! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Hello there First, let me thank you for the comment. I have never owned or touched the original so my experience is with this software emulations. This video is basically just to compare the two plug-ins it’s not really a review of each one, but just to highlight the differences. I have another video which is more of a deep dive on the Arturia synth.
Softube just made it right no bs fx, mod and other useless stuff that kills the flow. Just a pure raw best sounding synth. And by the way how long will everyone compare synths with a saw and an open filter? This is the most useless synth comparison, even completely different synths will sounds very similar.
Thanks for the comment. I agree Softube did a great job with this synth. I wanted to show/test that the two synths are basically very similar in sound or at least can sound similar. This is of course not to say they can sound completly different with filters and effects. Going to the extreme these two plugins can sound so different there would not be any reason to compare them at all.. still people asked me to do this video and show they two.
Hi there Sure that's a valid point if you are looking to see which one is more faithful but I thought since I own both plugins to show what comes with each. They have different features and it's not just about if they sound like the original. At least that's what I thought was interesting. Since I don't own the original unit that's the best I could do.
I'm fully aware that I sound like a jerk. I clicked expecting a "vs" sound comparison, but this was just a guy dedicating all but maybe two minutes worth to rambling. I don't think anyone clicked on this video expecting a breakdown of plugin features. Just title it accordingly.
Well it’s hard to make everyone happy.. sorry you are disappointed. Indeed the idea behind the video is to show the plugins one vs the other in terms of features. I do show they sound very similar so rest of the video focus on functional review.
I aLReAdy knOw... You know cause you tried it once in 2006, right? Sorry to break it to you but if you can't get good sounds with V3, it's not the synth that's trash.

Thank you my friend!
I use the Repro-5 by u-he, and I think it sounds really good :)
I guess I need to test it

u-he Repro 5? 🤔
Don’t have it yet..
it is strange that Arturia release Prophet 5 V5 which is not as good as their own Prophet 5 V3😅
Really? Why do you think so?
V3 was their best release ever

What’s the point of this comparison? - the two plugins should be compared to a real P5

The plug ins are indistinguishable from the hardware

I already know Arturia lost; their prophet V is trash
I think they sound very close so I don't know if that means they are both trash or it's me can't tell the difference... : )
