Your channel is great! I've been enjoying many of your videos over the past couple weeks. I came across this one and was surprised to see myself in it. :P I'm the one with the Irritiating Maze arcade cabinet that you used a quick clip of in the middle of this video. I made that video shortly after getting that machine and hadn't fixed it all up yet. Since then, I have fixed the flashing marquee lights, the 10 flashing lights below the marquee, the flashing lights on either side of the monitor, the strobe lights on either side of the monitor, the flashing light in the trackball, and the air blaster that hits you when you fail (I think that was already working in this video). All of those "features" make the game even more...irritating.
I have the Japanese N64-version of this game as well as the one reviewed here, and I found that it's a bit more comfortable to control due to the N64's analogue stick. If you have any friends left after Mario Party, this is another great way to get rid off them on the N64.
Chain reactions, baby!!! About six years ago I'm on RUclips looking for Seanbaby videos and happen across AVGN who I instantly start to ove, then recently I watch him review the shitty cover art for this game. Out of curiousity, I search for this game and end up here, and I liked this review so much I am now subscribed!!! I figured I better share this story because it is a gripping, riviting tale of stuff.
If I'd know you would actually see this I can would have put a bit more thought into it! Haha Thanks for the sweet videos man, they will making for great binge watching!
This reminds me of an old GBA launch game in Japan called Kuru Kuru Kururin where you're also navigating an object through a maze with electrified walls, but unlike Irritating Stick, it's a rotating bar instead of a dot. That makes it so you have to move through obstacles in sync with the bar's rotation, switch its rotation occasionally, and overall it just looked like a lot of fun. I was annoyed it never got a North American release.
RUclips tagged this video as "No Mature Content" and at first I thought that was pretty mean and funny but then I watched this video and a few more and a few more and now I'm really glad I found you :) Not enough retro game reviewers so chilled, wholesome and calming to watch.
I've got a US copy of this game, but there's no analogue comparability with mine. Have you got a later version or something? But it's the sort of game that would work on the Wii more, or the PS3 with that motion glowy ball thing.
Great obscure review LGR. I actually played this game back in the day on a Playstation Underground demo disc, under the Imports tab. Unlike the other US demos the console had to be restarted after playing the import titles. Sure enough it was this game with 0 translation and no title... So, thank you for putting a name to this maniacal game for me!
I just stumbled upon this review and I LOVE it! I love the concept of your reviews, you are hilarious! OMG, and the soothing voice and stuff. SUBSCRIBED!
This is a game that deserves a remake. What I especially love is how enthusiastic the announcer is. Imagine booting up CoD and hearing "*WELCOME TO *BLACK OPS 3!*" with some awesome music in the background. How pumped would you get? This is a game that would be amazing if it was remade.
At 4:50 I was immediately aware of what you were talking about. It's the same reason the Japanese have had me playing Dark Souls, and nothing else, for most of the past year. No matter how many times I beat the game it still feels like its mocking me!
i loved having the japanese version of the game as a kid because i thought it was hilarious to have somebody screaming at me in another language when i irritated the stick.
Haha same. With a limited library you pretty well play through everything on the disc. I remember that version being Japanese though and really confusing.
This game brings back memories. I remember buying it when my family visiting one of those big places with a bunch of market stalls in Vegas. And I don't think it was a flea market, but something else. Can't remember. But I remember my father being amused by the title, and my sister and I thinking it looked funny, so we bought it. As a child, it feels like it took me forever to get past that first level with the slot machine.
I remember seeing gameplay of this on youtube years ago. What happens you touch the walls gave me nightmares fro almost a day. Hell, this game even got an arcade machine on Neo-Geo, if I remember correctly.
+bloodrunsclear English is a very rigid language to learn, with a very multiplex grammar and lubricious pronunciation. And learning adjectives is very hostile process.
I remember this game came on a Sony Underground Demo Disc I was given for PS1. It was in the "Imports" section along with Guilty Gear before both either of the games were out in North America. I can indeed confirm the Japanese announcer was constantly yelling stuff at you, but I found it awesome. I only recently found out the game got released for North America, which is surprising considering how niche this game is being based of a game show. Pretty fun game I'd say, but sticking to easy is the only way to keep your sanity. Try also not knowing any Japanese and having no idea what any of the text said, making me have to deduce where the difficulty setting even was. Still, fond if not frustrating memories.
Oh lawd... I remember this game - it was on a demo disc I had lol. It was... strangely addictive... I was addicted to an irritating stick... I...can't.
Theres something about your reviews on classic games man, im a HUGE fan, if you want anything game related made out of glass hit me up!!! Love your channel!
Wow, how did I miss this one? This had to be really low print. BTW LGR when are you going to do another abandoned places video, huh, huh?? I know you want to! :P
I'm studying Japanese now at a university (2nd year), and the translation should be something like this: *Ucchan Nanchan's Intense Challenge(r): This is 1 million yen if possible to do* so maybe they are referring to the possibility to win 1 million yen to clear the game as if there were a game show prize or something like that... I'm only in my 2nd year studying Japanese =P oh well thanks for another great video (^_^) still enjoying them =P (although it can mean blaze or flame (intense emotion e.g. love jealousy or anger... and also passion) So it can as easily be: *Ucchan Nanchan's blazing Challenge(r): This is 1 million yen if possible to do* The irritating (irritation/inflammation) use of the Kanji 炎 is spelled 炎症 or えんしょう (enshou) instead of as blaze/flame being spelled ほのお or 炎 (honoo).
Me: "oh wow he's actually doing pretty well now" LGR: "And that is why I'm now showing footage of someone else playing the game" Me: "oh" And also: "If you want something to murder you until you're dead, keep an eye out for Irritating Stick" this is why i love you LGR xD
***** i actually had that same demo. it was under the imports section right? i definitely remember the demo being in japanese and found it quirky as all hell. i only ever remembered it cuz a year ago i ran into the full english release and picked it up for a dollar. it now prominently sits upon my shelf haha
I have a Demo with this game in it and it's all in Japanese. I had no idea what was going on or WHAT THE HELL I WAS DOING. But it's fun and it's now memories for me too look back at.
Seems even more frustrating then kororinpa on the Wii (and probably as adicting.) BTW LGR If you haven't played Kororinpa or it's sequel I highly recommend it. (It's a game about getting a marble to an exit in a big maze and various kinds of obstacles, however you control the angle of the world with the Wii remote instead of the marble directly.)
omg i remember this game on a jampack demo disk as a secret import game! i had no clue what was going on because it was all in japanese and it had a japanese announcer that was WAY better...damn i miss demo disks

All of those "features" make the game even more...irritating.
"I can barely get through it at all, which is why I'm showing footage of someone else playing"
That's pretty hilarious all in it's own
I have the Japanese N64-version of this game as well as the one reviewed here, and I found that it's a bit more comfortable to control due to the N64's analogue stick.

Captivating, truly :P
Thanks though, I hope you continue to enjoy the vids!

I guess it kinda has a NA release now, because it's at least on Nintendo Switch Online
Really an interesting game of it's own
I'm rather disappointed. I was hoping this was an open world game where you run around hitting people with a stick! lol
Your voice is just so pleasing to listen to and your review is just hilarious. Consider me subbed.
I appreciate it :)
+killerms2221 I was just thinking the same thing!
@@LGR are you a voice actor?

James brought me here but I love your Sims reviews anyway
Definitely the best game name ever.
I've got a US copy of this game, but there's no analogue comparability with mine. Have you got a later version or something?
But it's the sort of game that would work on the Wii more, or the PS3 with that motion glowy ball thing.
that would make it much more Irritating
preston glover Stick...
Give it to Ashens,Tell him to play it.
PURE EVIL
Tell Ashens to make a gameplay video too.
Give it to ashens. I want him to swear the video to fucking hell.
Your commentary is incredible. You made my day!
Thanks for the review.
After checking today's episode of AVGN about "Bad Cover Art", curiosity got the best of me.
I love your videos. You make every game sound relaxing, no matter how IRRITATING they are.

God looking on as I teeter on the edge of going insane from playing this game: "Watch out! You're too close to the edge!"
Not surprised that Cho Aniki made it into your trio of video links at the end this time. ;)

ScarabHunter It should get a remake.

Gets on your nerves constantly and rewards you with more frustration once you're successful... When did we start talking about college?
College? wait for AFTER college my friend
i loved having the japanese version of the game as a kid because i thought it was hilarious to have somebody screaming at me in another language when i irritated the stick.
AVGN sent me here, which is awesome, because I love LGR :-D
Such a bizarre title, I had to check out the review. Well done Larger
If your stick is irritated, please go see a doctor immediately
Only if it's a female....

Irritating Stickiness?
Yeah, I'm not even going to touch that... o_o
I love these ps1 reviews.
you can come over and play with my irritating stick, is nothing i will ever say to a friend...
5:39 "friends who wanna play with your irritating stick" ... that made my day!
4:47 That move you pulled off was impressive!
This game irritates my stick.
*HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA*
there should be a vr game for this kind of genre....
oh my god its kuru kuru kururin omg you have made my life by adding new levels to play (i hope)
I wish there was a version of this for the Wii.
This is a very well done review.
I see what you did there.
Vs mode has drinking game written all over it!
Has anyone told you that your voice is the hybrid of Bruce Campbell's and Duke Nukem's voice, good sir? you have just earned a subscriber
I played the demo for this as a kid on one of those PS Underground discs I ended up with.
Haha same. With a limited library you pretty well play through everything on the disc. I remember that version being Japanese though and really confusing.

Best name for a game ever. Reminds me of a persistent case of jock rash...the kind that you hold off scratching, because when you do...oh man.
LGR: reviewing random ass games like a damn boss. Can't for Sims 4, those are always the best ones
I remember seeing that game show from my childhood! I dono if I also played it in the community center as a kid in Hong Kong. Hmmmm...
still has more content then battlefront(2015)
I love the amount of despair in this review
Last time I played this "wire loop" game was on the internet where if you fail, Linda Blair from Exorcist will scream at you loudly.
I remember being the craze during the 90s era, there were cheap clones of it outside of it on TV
LGR does what AVGN dont. Showing gameplay.
+ZockAmigos
AVGN does what LGR don't: make fun of the awful cover and title.
You should really look into the PS1 game "Disruptor," my dad and I used to love playing that one.
I remember seeing gameplay of this on youtube years ago. What happens you touch the walls gave me nightmares fro almost a day.
Hell, this game even got an arcade machine on Neo-Geo, if I remember correctly.
I love this video because that's the one that introduced me to LGR!
Shocking Stick would have been too difficult, hmm?

Oh wow, I remember playing this on a demo disk (jampack?) way back when.
This came on a PlayStation JamPack in 1998, before the local release, and it was much less annoying in Japanese.
"... or just want something to murder you until you are dead." - LGR, 2013.
LGR, do you have "night of the tentacle" in your collection? I miss its kick-ass soundtrack.
Please, please, please, review No One Lives Forever! I'd love to hear your review about such an awesome game :)
I didn't know this came out in the US. I had the demo for this
'Play with your irritating stick'... aw god I'm cracking up XDDD
Wow, how did I miss this one? This had to be really low print.
BTW LGR when are you going to do another abandoned places video, huh, huh?? I know you want to! :P
that would make good DS shovelware because of its touch screen and stylus
It reminds me a LOT about Kurukurukururin for the GBA. Very addictive game concept

According to wikipedia you are right.
Woah, amazing quality of video from ps1. Are you using emulator for this, or what?
I was using the PS3's backwards compatibility mode for PS1 games, captured via HDMI.
+Lazy Game Reviews I'm assuming that might be the source of the input lag you mentioned, may or may not be there on PS1 + CRT
I forgot about this …
This is funny, but thanks to AVGN you'll get a lot of attention now lol
Your video is great btw, now it's time to see more :)
Clint's choice of words are hilarious...
this game looks huge in point of gameplay! wow!
The announcer kinda sounds like luigi from the super Mario bros super show when he said "watch out! You're to close to the edge!"
Me: "oh wow he's actually doing pretty well now"
LGR: "And that is why I'm now showing footage of someone else playing the game"
Me: "oh"
And also: "If you want something to murder you until you're dead, keep an eye out for Irritating Stick" this is why i love you LGR xD
I played this with D-Pad
I loved this game as a kid.
+1 for having Phntasmagoria. That game, if you can call it that, was so messed up. For that time.

Love playing this with my track ball on my arcade machine
I liked the game similar to this on Neo Geo
LGR recommends: Analog Stick
Caddicarus recommends: D-Pad

There was a sci-fi arcade game like this. Can't remember the name, played it when I was like 7 on MAME.
I have a Demo with this game in it and it's all in Japanese. I had no idea what was going on or WHAT THE HELL I WAS DOING. But it's fun and it's now memories for me too look back at.

i remember playing this game on a old janpack disc. i freakin hated it but kept playing lol
I can't tell which is more suggestive, that robot lady or the bride of Pin*Bot from the Williams table of the same name!

Hey, the UFO at 3:41 looks exactly like the UFO in Point Blank 2 but white. :o
Are these games made by the same people or what?
I must play this!!
yes finally found this after looking for few times wuh
omg my nightmares are back

Looks like the type of game I would have played with my friend in high school if either of us had it. Instead we played the PS1 version of Frogger.
I'm half tempted to get this one. It's cheap at the CD Tradepost.
omg i remember this game on a jampack demo disk as a secret import game! i had no clue what was going on because it was all in japanese and it had a japanese announcer that was WAY better...damn i miss demo disks
i like the review but the game is wierd it has an awesome title but it's wierd I'm giving this game review 9/10 keep reviewing so more
