I like your review. It can't be overstated that THIS is the radio you want if you want to RECEIVE AIS and output to a NMEA network. The rest is just basic radio stuff. The AIS is GREAT for spotting barges when traveling rivers.

pretty much everything you had to say was available in the radios brochure. It would have been nice if you went into why I should but this radio over something else.

I use SH GX2150 and love it. But after many years the LCD screen turns dark and difficult to see. I bought the GX2400GPS as replacement and will install it this weekend. I think it will be a good set. 😊

@@twisterwiper Way too complicated. None of the controls worked couldn’t change channel sent back to manufacturer four times. If u buy this good luck.

@@paulholm4827 Hmm, I’m sorry to hear that. I was planning on getting this one. Was it this model?

Yes it is. I have older model without the gps and has the ais and it works great. I also have another horizon radio without any of that stuff and it has been a very good radio. I know of a store who dropped their line of standard radios and switched to icom. We did finally get horizon to send us a radio that worked after like 3 returns. There were way too many bells n whistles n submenus which made it complicated to use and we had a full fledge marine technician that was helping. Don’t know anything about the Garmin radio but it looks simple n clean. I was a big fan of icom but the rechargeable batteries in their handheld vhf had a bad habit of dying early and expensive to replace.

@@paulholm4827 Ok, thanks for sharing your story. I think I will reconsider getting this, or at least investigate a bit more before deciding.

pretty sure this radio has a built-in splitter and only requires a normal vhf antenna

LoL, this is not a review, let alone a "honest concise" review.
It's just an add, that's all. Not a single hint of critical thinking in three and a half minutes, impressive!👍
I bet you didn't even touch the device, just got all your info and "video" from marketing materials. What a f-ing waste of time
