    That was great service by the Honda dealer, to be fair, whenever I’ve been on a trip and someone in the group has needed help from a dealer they’ve all been the same. I think that most dealerships realise that you’re on holiday and without their help, you’re stuffed. My own experience, I lost a visor screw once and popped into a dealer, they sorted me out and when I went to pay, they said, “no just a smile, have a good trip”.
    This film is brilliant and sums up a great trip with a mate, days like this can’t be beaten 👍

      Cheers. I agree, it doesn’t happen very often but when your in trouble nine times out of ten the dealer will square you away on the spot. It’s happened a couple of times to us in the past.

      Thank you. It was a fantastic trip. I think it helped that we refused to make a strict timetable. I got a paper map of Morocco, marked on a number of routes and places to visit and that was it. Each night we picked one out and went for it. As a rule of thumb we try to avoid big cities and tourist areas as it just gets to complicated with bikes and the security of kit. A lot of footage was not used so maybe over winter I may edit few episodes showcasing the trip in more detail.

      Yeah I agree. Riding those bikes on the Trans Euro Trail in Spain is borderline stupid (with our skill level). I did a bit of research before we went on the TET facebook page and was told that the section we did was easy on any bike, and it was in most cases but still you can very quickly get out of your comfort zone. Jason did exceptionally well on the big Honda, the T7 is definitely an easier beast off road than my old GS…alas not easier on my backside on the long motorway sections😂 As always thanks for taking the time to comment, stay safe and keep riding👍🏻👍🏻

    Great video guys!!! Couple comments and couple of questions... I have rode my BMW R1200GSA from Miami to Ushuaia over a 6 month period. I have also rode from Miami to Thailand.. Also a 6 month ride on a BMW F850GSA. Looking to do another adventure. Maybe from Miami to Morocco and south... Dream is to South Africa. Maybe back to Ushuaia (USA/Central America/South America). Ok, I am looking for a new bike and thinking of AT -- Adventure Sport because it is lower -- Also thinking for a DCT. Worried about weight although might be same as my BMW's which I hated the heavy bikes when I dropped. Did you like the AT? Both bikes are great -- but the AT is more my size since I am 175cm. If you can do again, would you guys take the same bikes? Next, I have never documented my rides on video -- seems like it would add a ton of time and energy to get on bike, get off bike, get on bike -- did you find that? Certainly worth while in the end. Last, do you think you guys could have done that ride solo?

    • @GreenString
      @GreenString  21 день назад

      Hi, some great questions. Let’s see if I can shed a light on some of them. Firstly I am answering on behalf of Jason who owns the Africa Twin. To summarize he loves the DCT version. The bike has been put through it’s paces, check some of our older videos if you are bored and, like a typical Honda, it has been largely reliable. Anyway, I used to own a standard GS and I think that was easier to pick up than the AT. The low, sticking out cylinders prevent the bike from laying completely flat, which the AT (and T7) both do. So this brings me onto your next question would I do that route alone? Yes. But with a few caveats. We selected the majority of off road routes based on our ability. Nevertheless we still got caught out which, let’s face it, is half the fun right? So careful route selection or as best as possible is important if traveling alone based on your skill level (but you know this) or at the very least knowing when to turn around. If I was traveling on a big bike solo I would probably carry one of these:
      eastbound.shop/product/motorcycle-jack-lift-a-fallen-motorcycle-eastbound-motowinch-lc2500dan/
      It would take the stress out of the inevitable drop that will happen. That is unless your strong enough to pick the bike up, I’m getting old and the T7 is about my limit to pick up alone. So to cut to the chase, yes I would take the same bike again. The video focuses on the “exciting” bits. The reality is long miles on asphalt and both bikes excel at this.
      Documenting a travel video is, to be blunt, a major pain in the backside. I found it far easier when I was traveling solo to document the journey. I am always conscious I’m getting in the way when traveling as a duo or trio. Luckily my mates get it and enjoy the finished product but it does add stress and time to the journey. It’s far easier if your alone but it takes discipline to keep filming. If you haven’t done it before I recommend going on a day trip and document it. Then try a weekend. Take into account the additional weight and battery management. Lastly don’t forget the editing process. I love it because I relive the journey but as a rule for every hour you spend editing you get about a minute of final footage. Ok, that’s enough of me waffling. I see you are a seasoned traveler so guess you know most if not all I have said or at least I have assisted a little bit. Naturally if you need more clarity or have any further questions let me know. Stay safe.👍🏼

    • @Coldgecko
      @Coldgecko 21 день назад +1

      @@GreenString Makes 100% sense. I didn't know Jason was running a DCT unit. I wish I knew about the eastbound unit on my travels -- and will buy one for future travel. I've sat waiting at the side of the road for help -- sometimes for hours albeit even with that unit, I can think of a few times where that would not help. Still other times, like once in Argentina I dropped on a super steep uphill road waiting on a stop light in a ghost town -- nobody to help and my bike was on a steep angle... Finally someone came by and helped. Another close by in New Mexico, I put my bike on a kick stand on a shoulder of a road -- again in middle of nowhere -- and it slid into a ditch... I waited for a few hours... Lucky some super strong Dude from California came by and lifted my R1200GSA with one arm :). Anyway, keep riding... Fun. I think I'll stick to photography but I wish I had your talent for videography.

    Tough journey, gents. I really enjoyed watching. I'm so curious about the weather... In the vid you bought some souvenirs from the local man. What is the temperature in such a spot? Perhaps not that warm, but what about the 40km desert stretch? That seemed HOT?

    • @GreenString
      @GreenString  4 месяца назад

      Typical desert temperatures for that time of year. I think the hottest it got was 34 degrees and you’ll notice in the evenings we were in shorts but had warm jackets on, not sure on temperature then but chilly. You could equally have an amazing road trip around Morocco we spent only €200 in Morocco for 7 days riding. Ferries are super cheap but a bit crap…. Oh and temperature on top of the fortress must have been high twenties but very strong winds ( my tripod was blowing over)

    Epic adventure, how did you find your tire choice? They look very road orientated

    • @GreenString
      @GreenString  Месяц назад

      Hi, we both had OEM tyres on so probably 80/20 maybe 70/30. Either way very road biased. We had huge mileage to cover on primary and secondary roads and I’d say only about 10, maybe 20% of the journey was off road. We also knew both Spain and Morocco would be super dry so the tyres we used were fine in “most” situations. That said we did get caught out a few times but if I’m honest it was rider error that caused us to go down the majority of the time. So in summary the tyres were ok for the location and time of year. Thanks for the great question. Stay safe and keep riding👍🏼

    • @GreenString
      @GreenString  2 месяца назад

      Hi, I didn’t take out any bespoke travel insurance. I had quite a bit of world wide medical cover through my credit card company. So certainly did not have 100% cover of everything. The bike was only covered in mainland Europe, which is no problem because cash is King in Morocco and really your dependent on the Locals to get your bike out ( which they will, very effectively, I’m sure) Jason on the other hand he did have 100% cover, but I don’t know who with. He also got immunised prior to departure. I didn’t bother. We both have very different approaches to negating risk, which is fun. Sorry I cannot be more useful👍🏻
