The mako is great. Definitely needs 18 ammo like the krag to be remotely viable. Having only 15 shots, less than 130 damage and a low drop range really does it in. It even has a sub 600 velocity. It is worse than every other long ammo gun in multiple places.
There is no place for the mako...the krag is better in every aspect. The mako needs to be 150 dollar cheaper or they have to buff this weapon like the Krag.
Mako was popular when they increased levering accuracy. Then they made the Krag hilariously cheap, no reason to run any other long ammo unless you have money to burn on Mosin.
Berther is cool, because it has a lot of reserve ammo. Otherwise mosin and lebel can be compared to krag only with spitcers if you can headshot people. Krag now not one of, but the best long ammo rifle in the game
The strength of the Mako is that its a long ammo that you can lever. The weakness it that if you ever try to play to that strength, you'll be out of ammo with a minute.
i think levering is best used in the terminus or winfield swift with fmj, using it on the mako is kind of pointless considering you have better options
@ yeah i think levering with the mako is just pointless, if you need fast firing long ammo just use Krag with iron eye, its slower than levering but you can aim
The issue was how much they buffed the Krag. Krag when it debuted only had its signature: quick- 3-bullet-reload to its name and was made to be the Mako rival much like Lebel was the rival to Mosin in Old Hunt. Nowadays Mako cannot compete on the numbers game. Mako needs to have faster reload and cycle to build its identity or niche. You can see how artificial the animation looks in that regard, the bullet looks like they weight 4lbs and the lever cycles the block after a full pause. Sparks received a reload and cycle buff both with core stats and Fast Fingers. I see no problem doing the same for the Mako. Personally, I use Mako as a mid range rifle despite the long ammo because I find ADS to Lever combo its smoothest action. Mind you that you don't want just lever the Mako wildly, but rather 2 shot burst to secure the 2-tap. Of course, if you land the HS no problem. Mako lever behaves like some shotgun spread or maybe Perringer spread on its RNG, too close for rifle comfort to make it work. [ You can stop reading here ] So for Long rifles you had a rivalry setup but then they added poor man versions setup and that's how the long rifle balancing went down. So the rivalry setup I mean is this: Sparks - Martini (muzzle velocity vs reload speed) Mosin - Lebel (stripper reload vs large ammo reserve) Krag - Mako (reload vs lever dancing on the edge of 1 tap on down niche) Berthier is odd the one out (mostly because its a Carbine and not a Rifle to begin with) much like how Carbine and LeMat Carbine are the odd balls in Medium and Compact. But then the other style of balancing setup Crytek started to cook is: Hunt Billionaire vs Poor Tier 1 so you have things like these (ironically the community finds both Cyclone and Drilling to not match their price tag and rather than help casuals it punished them even more) Cyclone is tame version of Avtomat Drilling is tame version of Nitro?? ...Sort of, but they realize that didn't work out and Drilling sees more action due to its multipurpose/adaptability and having the best custom ammos in the game. The balancing on Compact, Medium and Shotguns was more straightforward you had one weapon focusing on Damage, Muzzle Velocity, Range, Reserve or Reloads so it lead to more balanced weapon trees. Winfield being the most balanced performance weapon in the game. There is a hierarchy of stats and imo Muzzle Velocity is the most important firstly, but after a certain velocity Reload Speed becomes more important, the Cycling, and so on and so on to the next stat - this helps you figure out why the Mosin is such a powerful rifle. WIth the stat hierarchy in mind you can then build identities and performance benchmarks for said identities which should lead you to a price tag and properly balanced weapons. However, Krag at this point is becoming the Be All End All rifle (it even has a Silencer nowadays) if it gets Dum Dum (Long with Dum Dum???) or Spitzer in the next patch the game is cooked. Just saying.
That's where you are wrong, light melee is the claw that one shots grunts to the head and is very fast and at the same time you still have the heavy attack for the blunt stock attack on a LARGE SLOT rifle weapon. Mako Claw is literally the knuckle knife of large slot weapons.
Needs love in a few areas. Not as fast as the Krag, doesn't hit like the Mosin, no fire boolets, Sparks-like velocity. It just doesn't excel at anything.
11:06 is that guy a demon? Thats a very fast prefire for a guy who lets himself be massacred alongside other players. I feel contradicted when i see hornet play. They run around like headless chickens, never land a shot but then suddenly prefire like that with 100% map knowledge. What is that ?
if all you ever watch is his highlights on youtube then yes it will seem like that. Watch his streams live and you'll get the full picture of what happens in between the highlights lol but yes hornet only puts cool and good highlights in the videos
@@sofaloaf42069 the focus of my comment was on a random guy anyway, this has almost nothing to do with hornet himself. And even though these are highlights, there are too many and ive seen a lot so its SOMEWHAT consistent
I would love to play it more often because the gun sounds and feels great. But it still takes an eternity to quickswap after you shot once. Also the "slow" muzzle velocity and the drop of range doesn't make sense to me when you look at the damage and cycle time.
Without levering isn't that great compared to other long ammo rifles, so unless they reduce the price, increase damage, rate of fire or add more reserve ammo not many people will use it.
I still enjoy the Mako more because of the Aperture Variant (doesn't matter if you never use the alternate sights, because the most relevant part is the smaller sway even on Iron Sights) and superior Iron Sights, not to mention that the bullet speed being slight lower isn't very relevant at the ranges either of them are the most effective. It also used to be WAY cheaper than any Long Ammo Marksman/Sniper (except Sparks). But yeah, if the Krag had better Iron Sights and an Aperture variant, there wouldn't be much of a reason for me to bother with the Mako. And that's definitely not relevant for a lot of other players (although I believe that some of them would actually enjoy the benefits of the Mako, but they refuse to learn how to work with its shortcomings as habits are hard to change or something).
The little side-to-side strafing makes me feel ill, or maybe I'm not used to doing the jerky movements because ill never put myself into a situation where i need to do it
I complain so much about the Mako when I want to like it so much. The iron sights and sway makes it hard to follow up with the second shot and also makes it feel inaccurate. So many other guns do whatever the Mako needs to do but better.
Cause 540 muzzle velocity with price 380 compare other long ammo ,for cqc mako levering very bad compare to conversion fanning or shotgun, for it's quality mako should be 250
I use it from time to time because of how it sounds and how it looks. Same for me with Centennial but Centenniel has its niche. Mako is just another cool looking, cool sounding long ammo rifle which does the job well enough but isnt special in any kind of way. The only silly / funny thing you can do with a Mako is levering with explosive ammo from a high ground and that IS funny but so NOT effective it hurts.
I don’t play it for the same reason I don’t play the marathon, and that’s the sights. Sure, they work, but they are just way too open, to the point where in real life they would just be useless, and that makes them feel bad to me.
My last prestige i was trying my best to find out what's the mako for and I didn't make it. My favorite long ammo is berthier and it is pretty much better in any aspect than mako
The mako's only saving grace is that it's just a cool gun and it has levering... although the levering is crazy inaccurate. It shoots shoots and reloads crazy slow, the damage and dropoff are mehh, it doesn't have a lot of spare rounds and the velocity is not that great. They just need to make it a more viable compared to the other long rifle guns. Who knows, maybe mako will be the first long ammo dumdum/shredder gun.
There is no awful weapons in this game, you can make use of everything, the problem is some weapons simply being outclassed by others, and a mako is great example
People don't use it because it's boring, everyone wanted the Winchester 1895, an iconic, well known piece that's been balanced in every game it's been in to my knowledge. Instead we got some generic amalgamation of a bunch of different Marlin guns with a name that doesn't sound at all like that of an American lever gun company. It's fine where it is balance wise The other reason why people don't use it is that the Krag is better in every way, faster firing, reloading, has more ammo in reserve and has the practically same damage, none of these things are anything to with the Mako.
I like it. It sounds cool and it's satisfying to use, very weighty. I don't use it because it's completely overshadowed by others long ammo guns. It's definitely not boring tho
I really wish they would rebalance this weapon. As the Marlin 1895 (the actual weapon) when using .45-70 like the Mako is modeled to fire, only has a ammunition capacity for 5+1 (in reference to the modeled tubular magazine length for the older models of the original rifle), and with that I'd prefer the rifle's damage was buffed to be more in line with the caliber it fires, along with some more harsh recoil. The more modern Marlin 1895 have the longer 6+1 tubular magazines depending on the model, but some versions retain the 5+1. I honestly just don't feel like this rifle punches hard enough. The Mako that's featured in-game isn't any of .357 Magnum/.38 Special, .44 Remington Magnum/.44 Special, or .30-30 Winchester variants, but .45-70, one of the toughest and longest surviving cartridges from the old west even today and still popular (though for hunting) because of it's power and range. I want to love the weapon, but it doesn't feel right. (P.S. The Marlin 1895 is actually a design from 1972, so historically never actually was seen in the era of Hunt's setting, but given it fits the aesthetic and style of hunt, this fact really doesn't matter.)
