Going to miss David Amito as John the Baptist. You did a great job anyone else who picks up that character in other projects has their work cut out.
I'm one of those huge bible and horror fans I will check out his horror film for sure.

Thanks Kevin for the superb interview. It's great you talk to the actors other than "the apostles". David has so much interesting insight. So great you just let him talk without interrupting. Very inspiring.

David has been a riveting John the Baptist, starting with that first glimpse we got of him in Season 1 right up to the poignant and courageous end - and then Jesus's dream - superb every step of the way! Thank you, David, for doing John justice. And thank you Kevin for this interview.

What a beautiful interview. His performance in The Chosen is some of my favorite scenes. And I posted this interview to some people who were going off on the whole, “He’s a Satanist thing.” So ridiculous. Thank you for your authentic performance, David. You are a gift from God.

John then chuckles, to which the guard asks, “What is so funny?” John replies, "I've never been to a wedding banquet, but I'm on my way to one." - 🪟🐑🌈

How great to see an interview with David Amito. So intelligent. So talented. The different sides of John that he portrayed showed amazing insight into a character So unconforming. I don't think David said anything about this one thing. In the cell he was never alone. He was with God and his thoughts of what freedom really is.

Thank you for this cool interview David, you come across as a creative genius. Don't be put off by the fact that an awful lot of Christians feel threatened by anything that does not come straight out of the Bible. I love your take on John the Baptist in the Chosen. Thank you very much for your work, I am thrilled to see season 4.

Thank you Kevin for this insightful and edifying interview. I have been a Chosen fan since they released the first four episodes of Season 1 and David’s interpretation of John the Baptist absolutely captured my heart since our very first glimpse of his gaze through those wooden prison bars. Also David was able to stand toe to toe with Erick Avaari. All of David’s scenes are memorable and intense in different ways and that is indeed an accomplishment given that he is acting alongside such fine actors in an ensemble cast. Well done David! I have not seen Season 4 yet as I live in Italy so I have to wait for the episodes to be on the App but I already know that I am going to miss John the Baptist very much. God bless you and keep you David ❤

Did anyone else think the actress portraying John's mother resembled the alien in THE CAVE 2-pt. episode of Star Trek? (it's in the eyes.) She also resembled my grandmother.
David, thanks for your work in The Chosen. You were definitely an interesting character that endeared you to the fans. I'm so glad you had that beautiful image at the end of John's life. It was quite meaningful and reminiscent of the final scene of Jesus Christ Superstar. I hope you take away some of John's faith with you in life.

John in the chosen is my favorite character even as it is short lived, it made a huge impression on me as, I myself come off as crazy, but people tell me it isn't a bad thing, it adds unique character. I felt that was truly expressed when your living your life in such a way that is persecuted for Jesus. You have to be a little crazy & funny to handle the reality of it all. Kudos for sure.

Now that John's arc is completed--I want to compliment David for his performance--and give some notes on how the role was written.
This is an adaptation of the four gospels. The gospel authors all knew there was a surviving cult that believed John was Messiah. They also knew Jesus had been John's disciple, and was deeply loyal to him. There is no reason to believe the story (only found in Luke) that they were close relatives.
Jesus had been subordinate to John before creating his own ministry--that's why he went to him for baptism. (And I note that The Chosen has avoided showing that very problematic event for early Christians. Which they kept trying to explain away. Until John's gospel tried to wipe it out of existence, and said (as the three earlier gospels did not) that John had said Jesus was the Lamb of God, the Messiah.
John is never shown preaching to large crowds on the show, that I can recall--as we're told he did in the gospels. There's reason to think he may have been a more charismatic (if less creative) evangelist than Jesus. He was much more popular, overall.
Amito is 5'8, four inches shorter than Roumie. He's depicted as unkempt, and a bit--wacky. Like a homeless man, which of course he technically was. Less presentable than Jesus--but was Jesus, in reality, seen as moderate and reasonable? (We have no reason to think he was six feet tall, very big for that time and place--love Roumie's performance, not complaining about him, just saying).
I like that he's also got a great sense of humor, but we don't really get to see what it was he did that got him in trouble with the Herodians. We get a brief glimpse at their internal politics. And what is to me a rather implausible look into First Century Choreography. (Who knew they had a Broadway? I was starting to wonder if the dance instructor was going to tell Salome to do jazz fingers). In my opinion, one major reason John got in trouble was that he was starting to find converts among Herod's soldiers. There's maybe the ghost of a hint there, in the scene where Joanna tries to see John, having made connections with the soldiers guarding him).
We know little about Jewish dance in that period, leaving room for guesswork--honestly, I think probably if the story about Salome's dance is true, and was the real reason for Herod executing John, it probably was more about an appeal to sex than sublime technique and acrobatics).
I would have liked to see more conversations between Jesus and John, and John should have been much less subordinate to Jesus--he's older, and yet acts like the punky kid brother. Daring Jesus to get more radical.
And if Jesus knew John was going to die this way--and there is a Heavenly Kingdom they will meet in once more--why so much grief? I think it was a massive shock to the historical Jesus. I think it fundamentally shook his convictions, and changed his approach. He now knew God would allow a prophet to be killed by evil men. And he meant it when he said no man born of woman was greater than John. Meaning he wasn't greater. Those words should be in the show. They're in Matthew's Gospel. They wouldn't be unless Jesus was widely known to have said that. Because Jesus was born of a woman in Matthew's Gospel.
Overall, I think they missed an opportunity to give us a closer look at a man without whom there would have been no ministry of Jesus, and therefore, no Christianity. They were afraid of giving offense to Christian backers of the show, and of course, not worried at all about offending the no-longer-extant Cult of John, that took its time dying out after his death.
Meaning it's not possible John told his followers Jesus was the Messiah, and they shoud follow him instead.

In the scriptures John the Baptist was known for preaching repentance and living a godly life. It bothers me that this doesn't seem to be portrayed in the Chosen...

    • @thebibleartist
      @thebibleartist  10 месяцев назад +7

We don't get much of John's ministry on screen, but the show is pretty clear about why he was arrested - calling Herod to repent of his lawless marriage. And I think remaining firm in faith even to the point of execution qualifies as godly. Sure, in theory they could have shown more but I don't think it would have fit well into the arc of the first two seasons and by season 3 he was arrested. I kind of wish we had gotten John declaring Jesus to be the lamb (maybe we will in flashback) but it wouldn't have fit in S1 E4.
