Geometry dash is really the only game I've seen where people expect the top difficult levels to be fully balanced. Most of the time the "not balanced' gameplay actually makes the journey of beating the level much more special
@@hcardio1623while i do like me a fun and hard level, that isn't the point of levels like cataclysm, bloodbath, tartarus and other. they were simply meant to be hard, if not, damn near impossible.
@HCardiO IMO levels don't have to be balanced to be fun, and really what is fun is completely dependant on the person playing it. There are definitely levels that are balanced that aren't fun and fun levels that are balanced. If a level has to be balanced to be fun, maybe the problem isn't necesarily the lack of balance but that it just wasn't fun originally
@HCardiO That's fair, I think there is a difference between unbalanced and poorly balanced, but in the end fun is subjective. Making the end easy just so you never die there doesn't really make sense, and if the level was perfectly balanced then you would have the same chance of dying to the end, but also making it harder makes it frustrating most of the time. I think there is some merit to having a difficulty curve that starts at a 1 and then goes up to a 3 in the middle and ends at a 2, or something like that. but really its entirely up to personal preference, I'm sure there are situations where the end being the hardest part can result in a fun experience some how. I guess balancing can really change the overall experience of the level but there are a lot of other factors that play into it. so yeah idk
I can't believe Zeronium made a whole video where he murders Lieb, steals their Geometry Dash account and vandalises all of ATOMIC CANNON. Truly a shame to see such a well respected and trusted community figure do such a horrible thing.
I very much agree. Levels perfectly balanced are so boring to play, and on some scale even more streessful. You expect to die everywhere so you can't even stay more focused during some parts and relax a bit in other parts. You always have to maintain the same amount of focus. Having easier and harder parts is a very good thing imo. The problem is when the level is too unbalanced to the point where it becomes annoying, having autoscrollers and impossible parts. Another thing that can make an ubalanced level bad is where the difficult part is located in the level. Personally I usually hate hard beginnings more than hard endings, but that can change based on the level of course
thanks for asking my question in the first 5 seconds! now i dont have to watch the rest, my pea brainn now has consumed the optimal amount of content per video! going back to twitter now! much love!!
You make a lot of good points, a flat out balanced level can get boring pretty fast imo. My favorite extremes I've beaten have notably harder and easier parts (spacial rend, kowareta, anoxysm etc etc). But I do think it can be taken to such an extreme it flat out ruins the level (mayhem is a perfect example). Verifying levels this hard can be pretty difficult, it's very important the level has differing levels of difficulty while not going overboard to make the level engaging.
hello atomic cannon RUINER hello zeronium i would like to ask what type of balancing you like to personally see in levels? i like making the initial drop and end of levels hard with the area in between those around the same difficulty. predrop i usually like to keep on easier side but not enough to be free after you are good with it. also for certain gamemodes like ship and wave, i take alot of time to make sure they arent randomly impossible. do you have any similar preferences?
@@Zeronium i also like hard endings, maybe not for playing all the time but i think it gives levels a lot of character, especially if it matches with song intensity
6:54 agreed, i rather super unbalanced than balanced just not unbalanced bcs the gameplay in the part is super bad or rng but when u pass that one part usually earlier in the level and then u get far bcs the next parts are easier feels so good and then if i progress fluke im really happy and if i just fluke the levels i cant rly process what really happened but im really happy like for example i beat a hard demon after a year of playing and it was nine circles which i fluked from 47 lol only 2 wave attempts and i fluked the dual transition at the end and the last cube
0:07 ok ty zeronium now i can stop watching :) jk its a zeronium video how am i supposed to not watch it edit: i really agree with your opinion on balancing, it really is much better when there are hard parts & good parts

Dude it's incredible how well we agree on this one, I like that you said the things i didn't see anyone say
Honestly a very good and informative video W zeronium
i enjoyed your soothing voice for however long this video is
Uneven balancing is the reason I love levels like Deception Dive, which gets gradually harder as it goes. Makes it so much more interesting.
i thought i hallucinated this video’s existence tbh
Noo I need every click to have the exact same amount of frames and be perfectly aligned to the music or I will CRY
Can you try to say “hey guys” when I say it cuz it sounds really awkward when I say hey guys a second early 😢
