  • This tribute features music taken from Richard Wright's 1978 Album 'Wet Dream' and introduces the 1844 Poem 'The Day is Done' by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow edited and re-imagined by niKos Fusion.
Wet Dream was self-produced and Wright wrote all the songs himself, except "Pink's Song", which was co-written with his then-wife, Juliette,
The album went virtually unnoticed at the time. The album has long been out of print in Wright's native UK, but it was re-released on CD in the United States and Canada in the 1990s, with some success, and again in 2008 in Australia, following Wright's death.
He was one of the group's founding members and, particularly in the early years, was regarded as one of its creative powerhouses, even if the spotlight tended to follow the erratically brilliant Syd Barrett.
Ask most people who they know from Pink Floyd and usually the answer will be either Roger Waters, David Gilmour or Syd Barrett. These men all led Pink Floyd at one time or another; Barrett was responsible for their initial stage; Roger Waters for the record-breaking heights of The Dark Side of the Moon and The Wall, and finally Gilmour for their post 1985 output. However, one member that has been around through all three phases is Richard Wright; keyboardist and occasional lead vocalist. Whilst never leading the band, Wright has been behind some of the most important decisions the group made, and his unique mix of piano and synthesizer work made Pink Floyd’s music have the timeless quality that still resonates today, while his vocal contributions allowed the harmonies that allowed songs like ‘Time’ to be instantly recognizable. Overlooked by many, including his own bandmates; Wrights contribution to Pink Floyd was immeasurable.
Following Richard Wright's death; Roger Waters said: ““It is hard to overstate the importance of his musical voice in the Pink Floyd of the ’60s and ’70s… Rick’s ear for harmonic progression was our bedrock”.
Gilmour called him "my musical partner and my friend", and praised Wright's ability to blend his voice with Gilmour's, such as on "Echoes". Gilmour reiterated that it would be wrong to continue as Pink Floyd without him.

My personal favourites of Rick Wright's compositions for Pink Floyd are 'Summer 68' from 'Atom Heart Mother', 'Stay' and 'Burning Bridges' from 'Obscured By Clouds' and of course 'Us And Them' and 'The Great Gig In The Sky' from 'Dark Side Of The Moon'. All of them melodic gems with beautifully rich chord progressions.

Dave and Rick were the heart and soul of Pink Floyd - in David’s post FLOYD work - even the retrospective Gdańsk concerts they still sound like Pink Floyd because the blend of their voices and instruments were the bedrock of the sound. Did people miss Roger at the Pulse concerts? Not really. Roger was a brilliant lyricist but, to my mind, his post FLOYD output has been strident and unlistenable … And I find it hard to take that Roger fired Rick from the band he co-founded and had to rehire him as no-one else could do what he did!
