Nice to see you back at it - life sometimes gives you curve balls but u just have to keep going stay positive!! Look forward to seeing some updates on your shop / building progress.
Life takes time. Post when you are up to it. Watching your channel is a privilege and I for one am thankful you allow me into this part of your life. Take care and we'll see you when we see you. Peace Mike!
Yes, I prefer the "non apology" apology or even the GTFO of here non apology - I mean, everyone works at their own pace. Clearly he has and had other things that were demanding more time. So many presumptions in comments, though not THIS thread, so that is great. I suppose the comments can be entertaining, now and again.
Great to see you back. I've followed from the get go. I truly appreciate and applowd you truthfulness. People seem to forget that most of the channels are side projects and people have a life, family, and real job. Great to see you. Tony.
Great to see you both! Glad you're taking time to think about your health. Take care and if things don't work out in the rental business you'll do well as a model with Brooklinen :)
Since your "hiatus" the wife and I purchased 30 acres in upstate NY and have started building our own home there. Just had a well drilled (8K down a hole) and today passed our Solar off-grid inspection for our 13Kw 240 volt system. We started our own RUclips channel showing how 2 old farts could actually do this themselves at our advanced age. Keeping us young!
I know the burnout feeling. We are now 2 years this month on our cabin build. It’s almost complete now. Few odds and ends and we can furnish it. Hard to stay motivated and the 100 miles from home slows things down too. We will get to the finish line. My goal is to have it listed on Airbnb in about 4 weeks.
It is always good to see you both. I think if you look at all you have accomplished you can feel proud. Life can be busy. You have to take it as it comes. All will work out in perfect timing! God willing you have many years ahead to enjoy the cabin and to take us along. Thanks for a great video!
It is really nice getting to see a video from you guys. Hope you're feeling better. You have accomplished so much, you need to take a breather every once in awhile.
Don't beat yourself up. Look at what you have accomplished. The cabin looks great. Its impossible to get everything done when you want it and work full-time. Love the video.
Nice to see you again. The title of this episode terrified me - I thought I was going to see severe storm damage or something similar. Somewhat relieved that it was "only" mice in the water system - horrifying though that is. At least you can fix it and move on! Keep at it mate!
RUclips does encourage such titles, I didn't want it to be misleading so I included "Water System Disaster" written above the roof of the cabin so people would know.
Great to see you both. Sorry to hear that things are getting overwhelming. Keep the cabin fun, you both need to be able to relax, we'll be around when you have time for videos! Be well Mike and Sarah!
Don’t be so hard on yourself. Life happens…, we all get overwhelmed at one point. It was good to see Sara and Beatrice on the video. Just remember to breathe!!
Repped a builder for 18 years and the small finish items both his wife and I had to chase him to get them done. Understand I too have been known to do that but you must admit it is wonderful finding a plan come together and DONE. Being in Cincinnati I could've kicked myself not getting up to Dayton for support of the community activity the other day. My bad sorry to have missed that opportunity. Thanks for the new short cabin video and know it's always nice to see the updates on your Dayton building/shop.
Great to see you both again. Like you said, in spite of the critter mishaps, you had a very productive weekend. Listen to your body, and rest when you need it. You cannot enjoy the fruits if your labor if you're always overwhelmed and exhausted. God bless.
It was great seeing both of you. As a mom of two grown sons, I’m proud of your accomplishments ❤️ You both take time to enjoy everything you are doing now because it will be a beautiful life for years to come. BTW I am still using your whiskey sour recipe 🥃
The last 5% of a project can be so hard to finally tie off. Glad you got some stuff wrapped up. Thanks for showing how many attempts it took to put the cover over that light bulb. Makes me feel better when I do the same thing.
Mate that trip was worth it just for piece of mind. I'm impressed that the little things brought you so much pleasure and look forward to many more adventures.
Just ordered myself a sheet bundle via link as a gift for the wife. The time and care you put into everything you do speaks wonders on the channel. R&R is really important especially since your essentially building 2 homes take your time, we aren't going anywhere.
Welcome back guys! I have always loved your channel! I can fully relate with being overwhelmed! I find that making a list of everything big and small that I need to get done then re-copying them down in the order of biggest priority to the smallest helps me a lot. At that point you, start at the top of the new prioritized list (which is your most critical item) and then work your way down the list in order. As you cross things off the list you feel less overwhelmed and the things you care about most get done before you move on to the next item. You may be doing this, but if not it can really make you feel better about making progress and you know what you have in front of you. There is nothing better than seeing the list get smaller which keeps you focused and feeling hopeful and not overwhelmed! You guys are in my prayers! Keep up the great work - the place looks awesome! I can still remember the video where you put the insulation board in the bedroom to keep warm because it was so cold! You have come a long way since then! You may not be where you want to be but you definitely aren't where you used to be! Hang in there! I hope you get the break you need soon!
Such a beautiful environment you've created. Years ago in the early 80s when I lived out in the country in Texas, my nearest neighbor about a mile away was a 60-something single woman named Ora, whose father had built the small stone house she still lived in. She told us when she was a young woman she had gotten married but it lasted only 2 weeks before she went back to her parents. Of her marriage she said, "I didn't like it." So she had lived her whole life in the Texas limestone stone house her father had built by hand, probably in the 1910s or '20s. We used to buy raw milk from the one cow she kept. On one of our visits to pick up milk, she told us the story of her house, finishing with, "Every stone is dear to me." The intro to this video reminded me of Ora and her love of the stone house her father built. In the intro to this video you can feel the love in every detail of your cabin I guess it gets magnified when you've been away for awhile.
Definitely slow down when you need to. Enjoy the journey of life... because that's what it's all about... no matter what your destination ends up being, it's the road traveled. Count yourselves lucky to be traveling that road together. Love your uploads... you have my gratitude for sharing some of your journey with us.
Great to see you back! You’re such a trooper Never give in Never give up You are the MOST authentic RUclips channel I watch. God bless you and your family 🙏❤️🇺🇸
I can relate to your stress of taking on too much. I retired 2.5 years ago and you’d think stress would have gone away. Well we moved to a new house with 10 acres out in the country from a house we had lived in for 15 years. Old house was very well organized with lots of storage. New house had no organized storage. I stressed that everything had go get done now! Wrong, step back and realize this is what I wanted and it was going to take a few years to get things organized. Hang in there and prioritize what’s most important. Life is a journey and we need to learn to enjoy it.
Don’t feel bad. I’ve been “working” on my cabin for over 36 years. There is always something to do, something I could have done a better job on, or something I never really finished. That seems to be the nature of DYI projects. You need to learn to find time for play as well as work and let some of the projects wait. It was a difficult lesson to learn, but now that I’m 73 I really have no choice but to let some of the projects go. Don’t wait until you are 73 - take time when you need it and relax and enjoy. What is the point of having a cabin to get away to if all you do is work when you get there.
Love seeing you and Sarah together, there should be more of it. As far as the cabin goes, enjoy the process, it shouldn't become a burden to you - as far as I'm aware, you're not working to a deadline, so treat the cabin as a marathon, not a sprint. Indeed, we've all been with you for years, we like what you do/show us and how you do it. I always look forward to your next video, whenever it comes out. Take care - all the best from Downunder. 👍👍
Great to hear from you again, you are doing a great job my friend. Don't get stressed out, life is wonderful, celebrate all the things you have done instead of what needs to be done. Bless you and your wife!
Sad to see the loss of animals, but when you called it a starling haul' I let out a laugh. Hang in there, you do great work and have been an inspiration to myself and many others.
Greetings from Northeast Ohio. I missed you guys. You do sound over worked or stressed. Try to be thankful that you have an amazing partner to share your life with. In the end that’s what really counts.
It was so nice to see you at the cabin. We have the same experience. We’ve not been to our off grid remote cabin for about 2 months and we’re starting to head into the fall which means “ closing” it up so we don’t have problems through winter.
Great to have you back. I appreciate you showing your mistakes. Believe it or not, that is inspiring. Take care of yourself and relax more and enjoy life. TFS
Wow, great to see you & Sarah & Beatrice!! That was sad to see the starlings after you lined them up....poor birds! Sorry your relaxation visit turned into more work but at least you got a lot of final touches done--that must have been a good feeling to complete them! Plus, we got a video from it! Sending best wishes from No. Virginia, for continued success & happiness! See you when we see you & until then, take care, Wanda. -Hugs to you, Sarah & Beatrice! 🤗
It’s amazing what you accomplish.. I almost Watch the process to beginning to now… everyone understand real life behind the cameras is totally different.. I really appreciate do you to let us be part of you in your wife’s dream.. take your time did the best you can we appreciate it also take the time to enjoy what you accomplish..👍👏👏
Good to see you back man. Hey we all get to that point when too much is too much. One small step at a time. Getting those little things that are weighing on your mind finished is a mighty sense of accomplishment. Take a breather and recharge. It's good to set high goals but make sure they are obtainable. If you never meet the goals you set out to accomplish, it is quite discouraging. Good to see you back and remember that you are only one person, if you are doing majority of things by yourself then it will take longer. Set goals accordingly and you will find that you not only exceed your goals but that monkey won't get up and weigh down on you. Cheers from Ontario Canada
Someone probably already suggested this, but check out RV fresh water system sanitation processes. It's pretty similar to your stated plan, but without the dye. Adding dye could certainly help you feel more certain. Basically, fill the tank with a bleach-water mix, run it through every faucet/fixture until you smell the bleach coming out. Turn all the water off and let it all sit for 24 hours. Then come in and rinse it out (pump out the tank if you don't want to run it ALL through the cabin's water lines...up to you). Fill the tank with fresh water and run it through all faucets for several minutes. Drain/pump it out again, fill with fresh again, repeat until there's no more bleach smell. Should only take 2-3 rinse cycles. I assume filling the tank with fresh water isn't exactly easy at your off grid cabin, though. Good luck! For extra schnitzengiggles, throw some campden tablets into the tank once you're done sanitizing your whole system so that incoming water gets a bit of treatment, too. There you have it, my unsolicited and maybe not-all-that-feasible advice!
Glad your back and well. I hear you. Our off grid cabin is 200 miles away. We work and have a host of other activities going on everyday. Once we got the big stuff done, we do little projects now. Enjoy your cabin...its beautiful. Take care.
Your title threw me. My first thought was the cabin being struck by lightning. So glad I was wrong. Bummer about the cistern but it can be reconciled. One of these days you'll be able to enjoy the cabin as you intended. You're getting it done while you're young. Best wishes to you Mike and Sarah.
I was just wondering the other day when you were going to post a video. I normally skip advertisements from people, but you kept me watching. My wife even was watching because she is looking for new bedding. Anyways, that minisplit is awesome. That one if my summer 2023 project at my cabin. I also get overwhelmed with things I need to get done. It helps if you plan for much more time for each project than you need. That way you aren't rushing if things take longer than you would like. Makes it more enjoyable. I also knock out all the quick things first. If I have 4 projects for the weekend, and 3 only take an hour each, I always knock them out first. It helps you mentally feel like you accomplished something, so you aren't rushing that last project. Just you doing them little projects relieved some of my stress!
Ha ha glad you liked the ad, I tried to make it entertaining. We like those sheets, our only gripe is the fitted sheet fits a bit loose. The mini split is really an amazing little unit. Good tips.
I finally cleaned out my water storage tank after the summer and I was half expecting voles or mice in mine, but was fortunate that I didn't. My biggest problem was a large algae bloom that messed up my pump. Most of this stuff that happens is just a good learning experience.
Its such a treat to see you both Mike and Sarah. Sorry things got so overwhelming but life happens, you just pull up your boot straps and work at it the best you can. All will be well. Mt best to you both. Hugs for Beatrice.
So good to see you back at the cabin! I’m glad you’re able to knock a few things off the list that have been weighing you down. Sorry to hear about the water tank issues but I am fully confident that you will get it cleaned up, fixed and not have to deal with it ever again. Stay positive my friend. At the end of the day, that’s all we can control. You always have such a calm cool attitude and it is a great example for a lot of us. Keep doing what you do. Cheers.
Welcome back! This video was like watching myself!! I love starting projects but suck at finishing! I have a long list of "finishing" to do... But still get a lot done and make and difference. Keep at it, love your work and your honest videos. Your inspiring alot of people to do more and be better. Thank you
I was hoping you were going to start filming at the new shop on the renovations. Its amazing to see the before and how much is already done. Always awesome to see you at the cabin. Hope the workload can balance out soon for you!!
Hi sorry to see that it get a tall on you, i have started my cabin in the mountains in France 2 years ago, and i know what you feel excatly, forgeting small stuff, driving for hours, seeing a list of To Do long as a train ... not even taking time to enjoy enough the nature and place i own... having a person next to you that first sees all you do and is capable of just saying "you push yourself too much" is enough to make you halt and/or slow down and allow yourself to not do stuff some times. Enjoy your place looks awsome !
It's really tough when you can't just pop out to the store to get something isn't it!? We do need to enjoy ourselves once in a while huh. Enjoy your cabin and I will also try to enjoy mine!
Problems are part of life. Just try to fix issues as they are discovered. Guilt and being hard on yourself accomplishes nothing. You don't need an excuse for things neglected or unfinished. Nothing you do is dumb. You work hard and are conscientious. Enjoy the fruits of your labor whenever possible and roll with the unexpected.
You are way too hard on yourself. You do such a great job on everything and the whole idea is to do things at a pace that doesn't stress you out. Love watching your channel more than just about any other here on RUclips.
It all takes time... Anything you can fully recover from - anything - is less a disaster, yet more of a learning and planning opportunity. Besides, you needed to go to the cabin! The water supply being "killed" by three dumb nice is a bummer. The work to fix it, will take time. Yes and Shawn James almost has the roof over his second cabin. That man is a beast. Sometimes I like the slower channels!
Hi! Being a perfectionist is hard. Your livelihood priorities are the most important. The cabin is a beautiful bonus! I really enjoyed watching the detail work today, instantly rewarding!
welcome back Mike. has been awhile. 5 starling birds, make a good dinner of bird stew, and tasty mice as well. 😊 just finished painting my front verandah or porch, yes work never stops. health comes first, take care.
Don't stress yourself out too much about getting things done. People call it the spoon theory. Where you only have so many spoons you can use a day and some things take more than one spoon. Just do what you can. Also the little things in the cabin are "rountuits" you'll finish them when you get a rountuit.
You guys are darn busy!! It is no wonder why things get left undone. Lists. I can not work without them lol. I always put a few easy items at the top so I trick myself into feeling productive and then tackle a few big ones. I also never have more than 10 things on that list! When that day is done I focus on what I completed, not what I did not get done then add more items to the bottom of that list until I have 10 again lol..while I have missed the cabin videos, the shop videos have been awesome too hahahaha. Best to you both
Omg....we have had a cottage for 22 years on one of NYS's Finger Lakes and there is ALWAYS something that needs atttention. But we don't let that take our joy away and I'm glad to see that you two also subscribe to this way of thinking. ☺ Your cabin is beautiful. You must be so so proud of the work you did and that you continue to do on it. It's been enjoyable watching the progress!
For the water system, I'd look at the stuff used in RV's to clean the system out. It's a blue jug of something made by Camco - Bleach works but even the smallest amount will make the water smell /taste like a pool for a very long time.
@@50Acres Just as long as you don't do what my bother in law is prone to doing. My sister told me, she/the keep a ToDo lost on the refrigerator door.... 3 columns, his, hers, theirs. My sister said one day she noticed that as she would complete her chores and put a line thru them, she would notice that her list would suddenly have chores added below. When she took a closer look, she would find that her husband was moving some of his chores over to her list ...... not even to the theirs list, just hers. The theirs list was for things that they would do together. She said it was funny the first time ..... only the first time.
Nice to see you back at it - life sometimes gives you curve balls but u just have to keep going stay positive!! Look forward to seeing some updates on your shop / building progress.

I am glad that you had a positive experience at the cabin even with the cistern setback. The place looks great! Sending positive thoughts your way.

Wow, great to see you & Sarah & Beatrice!! That was sad to see the starlings after you lined them
up....poor birds! Sorry your relaxation visit turned into more work but at least you got a lot of final
touches done--that must have been a good feeling to complete them! Plus, we got a video from it!
Sending best wishes from No. Virginia, for continued success & happiness! See you when we see
you & until then, take care, Wanda. -Hugs to you, Sarah & Beatrice! 🤗

Hey thank you Marco. Man the reality behind the camera is much different. I can only show so much. Thank you !
Great to see a video again. 7:14 that's so funny. My wife and I had that same conversation this evening about me and my building projects.
Yea, we were absent a while.
Great to have you guys back.
Thanks!
Good to see you all again
THanks!
Thanks Kyle, good points. Cheers
Thanks Sean, those are some great tips. I appreciate it.
Glad your back and well. I hear you. Our off grid cabin is 200 miles away. We work and have a host of other activities going on everyday. Once we got the big stuff done, we do little projects now. Enjoy your cabin...its beautiful. Take care.
Thank you, will do. Glad you are enjoying your cabin.
Keep grinding bud! Place is coming together. Also, miss the commercial build, really enjoy those vids as well!
Thanks Erich, I came out with a couple new videos on the commercial property.
Sorry about that! Thank you, same to you!
Thats good you didn't have anything in there, this is a pain.
Good to see the 3 of Ya'll.
Thank you!
Its such a treat to see you both Mike and Sarah. Sorry things got so overwhelming but life happens, you just pull up your boot straps and work at it the best you can. All will be well. Mt best to you both. Hugs for Beatrice.
Thank you! Bea appreciated the hugs!
Great to have you back, mice and cabins are a thing but sounds like it’s totally fixable
Yes indeed!
Glad you’re back but understand having so much other things to do. Take care be safe with many prayers and blessings.
Thank you Paul same to you.
Cheers.
Hey Justin thanks man! Will do!
Welcome back! This video was like watching myself!! I love starting projects but suck at finishing! I have a long list of "finishing" to do...
But still get a lot done and make and difference. Keep at it, love your work and your honest videos. Your inspiring alot of people to do more and be better.
Thank you
Thanks Brad, that’s been a problem of mine too. Need to limit myself to one project at a time.
Hang in there Mike! You're still a great inspiration to me!
Thanks Josh I appreciate it.
I was hoping you were going to start filming at the new shop on the renovations. Its amazing to see the before and how much is already done. Always awesome to see you at the cabin. Hope the workload can balance out soon for you!!
Hi Chuck, glad you are enjoying the shop videos.
Awesome to see you guys back!! Love your sheets promo, very creative 😂🥰
Thank you glad you enjoyed it!
Hi
sorry to see that it get a tall on you, i have started my cabin in the mountains in France 2 years ago, and i know what you feel excatly, forgeting small stuff, driving for hours, seeing a list of To Do long as a train ... not even taking time to enjoy enough the nature and place i own... having a person next to you that first sees all you do and is capable of just saying "you push yourself too much" is enough to make you halt and/or slow down and allow yourself to not do stuff some times.
Enjoy your place looks awsome !
It's really tough when you can't just pop out to the store to get something isn't it!? We do need to enjoy ourselves once in a while huh. Enjoy your cabin and I will also try to enjoy mine!
Hang in there my friend. You got this.
Thank you Jeff.
Glad you guys are back
Don't stress out. It's all looking great. 👍🏻
Thanks James!
Yes indeed. Thanks Marty.
You are way too hard on yourself. You do such a great job on everything and the whole idea is to do things at a pace that doesn't stress you out. Love watching your channel more than just about any other here on RUclips.
Thanks Guy, Glad you enjoy it.
Thank you ! We'll get it fixed up.
Hi! Being a perfectionist is hard. Your livelihood priorities are the most important. The cabin is a beautiful bonus! I really enjoyed watching the detail work today, instantly rewarding!
Thank you!
Love both your cabin and your commercial building your talented craftsman also your dog is awesome love watching !
Thanks so much!
Love your content and glad to hear your doing well. Slow and steady, always remember to take of yourself first. Take care and God bless you and Sarah.
Thanks, you too!
Nice to see you back on. Please get some rest.
Thanks Roberta.
welcome back Mike.
has been awhile.
5 starling birds, make a good dinner of bird stew, and tasty mice as well. 😊
just finished painting my front verandah or porch, yes work never stops.
health comes first, take care.
Ha ha ha thanks Paul!
Best to you both
Hey Sean! I definitely need to start doing more lists! Cheers bud!
So so glad to see you back and you have the boss and her assistant with you !
Thanks Todd!
Omg....we have had a cottage for 22 years on one of NYS's Finger Lakes and there is ALWAYS something that needs atttention. But we don't let that take our joy away and I'm glad to see that you two also subscribe to this way of thinking. ☺
Your cabin is beautiful. You must be so so proud of the work you did and that you continue to do on it. It's been enjoyable watching the progress!
Tell me about it! Thank you!
Priority comes first...take care of you two.
Nice to see you guys again.
Thanks man
For the water system, I'd look at the stuff used in RV's to clean the system out. It's a blue jug of something made by Camco - Bleach works but even the smallest amount will make the water smell /taste like a pool for a very long time.
Thanks, good idea.
Good to see you again.
Thanks JD
Glad you guys are back!
Thanks Mike!
It's always nice to be able to chip away at one's "gotta do list".
It sure is!
The cabin is beautiful! Great to see you both! Thank you for sharing! Rest some! Lol
Thanks Deanna!
