I always got the feeling like early Brian being characterised as the voice of reason in the show was because he was Seth McFarlane's self insert character and thats how he saw himself. Wheras the later seasons are written less by Seth and more by other people and they wrote him to be a pretentious know-it-all because he was Seth McFarlane's self insert character and that's how they saw Seth.
I hope thats the case because thats hilarious

Brian changed so much that I feel like he and Jillian might actually work out nowadays. At least if Brian dropped all pretenses and stopped worrying about being seen as smart.

Remember they became strawmen together, Jillian started like a typical dumb blond and that escalated to her seemingly having a mental disorder. Brian even if he stopped trying to be smart would be irritated with her, she is just *that* dumb.
@@mechajay3358 Nowadays Brian feels pressured to look smart in front of others, hence why he so often pretends to understand what people talk about. He wouldn't have to deal that with Jillian, he'd feel smart just by being himself.
The fact Adam West of all people got kicked out of an orgy for acting like Batman is pretty funny to me. It seems there are enough people into the idea of having sex with a celebrity to be fairly appealing, and with them as one of their more popular characters just seems like it would be icing on the cake.
Not only that in the comics Batman FUCKS he fucked Catwoman, he fucked Wonder Woman, he fucked Harley, he fucked Posion Evy, he fucked Spoiler, he fucked Batgirl, Batman probably fucked every woman in Gotham by now

this video is a really lovely anaylsis of how brians character changed and your family guy analyisis videos are always a great watch and really tackle perspectives and interpretations ive never thought about myself ^^ and maybe a little off topic to the discussion but im always glad when you talk about family guy you never resent it for its later seasons and are often open minded, i love seasons 4-7 the most out of the entire show and season four is my favorite so its nice to see a change of pace from the adult animation community

i surprisingly enjoyed "carny knowledge" for the same reasons. it was satisfying to see stewie call out brian's tendency to look down on the women he thinks are dumb/trashy, and how it contradicts his self-image of being a better person!
I haven’t thought it that way, but yes! “Carny Knowledge” forces Brian to confront that even people he perceives lower than him can still reject him. It further emphasizes the fact that Brian can’t accept his own flaws, to the point where he tries to win her back so HE can break up with her. He’ll always be stuck in the cycle, so as long as Brian thinks of himself as higher than thee

Edit: The first section of this comment was written immediately after seeing the ad-read, but before finishing the video. I'm not as active on social media these days, so I didn't know that Tariq was having mental health issues. Really sorry to hear that, but I totally empathize. The video itself was great as usual, and the length of the ad-read didn't bother me. I am looking for forward to Tariq's cartoon, and I did donate a little bit to it in response to the reminder that it's still happening. Best of luck to all involved! @ I’ll admit Brian was somewhat flanderized at the time, but he was nowhere near as douchey as would become in the double digit seasons.
like how the rant makes a point about Brian abandoning his son, when in that first episode it's Dylan who decides to move away to help his mom. But the next Dylan episode doubled down on Brian being a deadbeat.
@ yep, or the homeless thing, Brian didn’t complain about homelessness up until that rant, they just added it then and there.

@ I do actually! It was the OJ Simpson episode. For whatever reason I remember watching that and was like “this episode wasn’t very good” and it just began my apathy towards the show.

Not sure if it's jusy a generic character design trait or something more. But i always found it interesting how Brian's collar was similar in color scheme snd design notes as Jillian's choker. Then Lauren seemed to wear a necklace that was just the gold part. During the dinner scene she had the reddish dress which evoked that red and gold scheme. Probably nothing, but jumped out at me
