I’ve been watching 5150 since almost the beginning and catching Corey whenever he comes to DC but over the last year or so I’ve kinda had to fall back off Corey. I feel you somewhat, my bday is in July. I graduated at 17 and was ready to go to college in August. But the night of my bday I was told I had to go! Had to find somewhere to live for a month since I was now 18. For me, it forced me to stand on my own. But there's no way I'd do that to my kids. I'd rather have them live with me while they're working or in school, because it gives them a better start in adulthood. Living with me would allow them to stack up their money and put it towards the purchase of their own house.
Totally agree! That's the plan I have for my kids! Plus a child isn't ready to be on their own at 18. They go into survivor mode & stay in that mode as opposed to elevating to thriving mode!

The reason Latinos live together is because many of them are here illegally and can't get a home because they don't have paperwork. The Asians are expected to leave the home as well when they're young. The difference is they're expected to take care of the elders once they become successful. They don't go half on bills and utilities. Arabs are even worse. Many of them get promised off for marriage at like 6 and are expected to leave by the time the man gets work. Also when they live over here they live together because they have 7 year work visas and have to go back. They save money on rear because they know they aren't going to buy a home. Basically they want to save as much money as possible so when they return they'll have money for their business over their. They don't live together in their homelands. I think you're misunderstanding their cultures and unrealistically comparing black people to them. Actually we let our kids live at home longer than ANY other groups in America. We are more family oriented than any other groups in America. All I'm trying to say is this isn't a black American issue. Also to be real people should want their own regardless of race. Why should someone want to live with their mother at 30+ years old? If you have to it is what it is but that shouldn't be life goals. No grown man wants to walk in hearing somebody smashing your mom and that's going to happen if you're 30+ living with your single mother who's not that old.

I disagree with people who say black men are lesser because they live at home, but these same people give a pass to evety other group where it's common and expected. The Latinos, asians, hindus, arabs, irish, italian etc etc all live in extended family households unless they get married etc, or they are financially stable enough to establish a seperate home. We black amerians who are financially at the bottom of earning etc are expected to go get tyere own and both struggle separately, even the white kids here in nyc who act like they own their own apt but its really being paid for by their parents. I feel you somewhat, my bday is in July. I graduated at 17 and was ready to go to college in August. But the night of my bday I was told I had to go! Had to find somewhere to live for a month since I was now 18. For me, it forced me to stand on my own. But there's no way I'd do that to my kids. I'd rather have them live with me while they're working or in school, because it gives them a better start in adulthood. Living with me would allow them to stack up their money and put it towards the purchase of their own house.

The reason Latinos live together is because many of them are here illegally and can't get a home because they don't have paperwork. The Asians are expected to leave the home as well when they're young. The difference is they're expected to take care of the elders once they become successful. They don't go half on bills and utilities. Arabs are even worse. Many of them get promised off for marriage at like 6 and are expected to leave by the time the man gets work. Also when they live over here they live together because they have 7 year work visas and have to go back. They save money on rear because they know they aren't going to buy a home. Basically they want to save as much money as possible so when they return they'll have money for their business over their. They don't live together in their homelands. I think you're misunderstanding their cultures and unrealistically comparing black people to them. Actually we let our kids live at home longer than ANY other groups in America. We are more family oriented than any other groups in America. All I'm trying to say is this isn't a black American issue. Also to be real people should want their own regardless of race. Why should someone want to live with their mother at 30+ years old? If you have to it is what it is but that shouldn't be life goals. No grown man wants to walk in hearing somebody smashing your mom and that's going to happen if you're 30+ living with your single mother who's not that old.
