• Promised Land Translation
Thank you for watching and please leave thoughts and comments down below.
"You couldn't possibly summarize the deep and complex story of Final Fantasy VII in less than 3 minutes! It's impossible!"
Marlene: "Hold my flowers."
She sorta did but she didn’t really tap into who zack or Aerith are to the universe of ff7. So anyone watching this and never played the games would be so confused.
The way she describes Sephiroth from a child’s perspective is .... really sad, this whole opening makes me tear up lol
ikr
every damn time
I think everyone sometimes ,gets so frustrated with life ,there is a little Sethiroth in everyone ,and it's not easy to suppress these feelings of hatered, but ya it makes me sad
Same he was a hero, so normal T-T
@@mitzysmith8850 I think this is such a profoundly accurate statement. I listened to this video twice on the walk I just took and thought that exact same sentiment. We all have moments in our lives that make us suffer. It’s up to us as individuals to suppress the evil that lies dormant within all of our hearts. I always felt that the battles between Cloud and Sephiroth were depictions/representations of our own inner battles that we all fight. Sephiroth is the perfect representation for the manifested demons we all face. Especially knowing he can show up anywhere at anytime; yet most of the time only Cloud can see him. (Referring to Remake)
"Someone I love went back to the Lifestream too".
This quote really resonates when you see the scene between Aerith and Marlene in FFVII Remake
Odysseus7799 in Advent Children she has the same hair style as Aerith
kamenriderreaper same ribbon too
Can someone give me the context here?
Brian Wishon to be fair the entire group wears a ribbon for her
@@velvetbutterfly I always saw the red ribbon as a symbol of Avalanche, not Aerith. But either way, Marlene's hair ribbon is a different kind of ribbon and identical to that of Aerith's own. It also promotes the theory that Marlene is an Ancient as well, among the other things. :)
The choir singing "Is it necessary to sacrifice a soul?" with a clip of Aerith being put to rest is just so 😭
Ff7 is not just a game, its an experience.
It's trauma.

It was a personal experience with a person fighting against a toxic role model that he could have very well ended up as.

This movie was a visual symphony. Maybe difficult for non-fans to follow, but I imagine it would still be fun to try.
Ryan Beaty just about every person as show this movie to fucking loves it. Even though I have to explain a little, I don't think I've showed it to a single person who didn't love it by the end.
My mom ADORES this movie.
I never played the game but became obsessed with the movie back then
I never had the chance to play the game. I eventually got around owning it but never did get that time to delve into it. In essence, the game was my Firefly and Advent Children was my Serenity (I did get to watch the show many years later, but it was through the movie I got into the show, much like Cowboy Bebop and Knocking on Heaven’s Door).
@@blankface911 Hmm non fans don't love this movie at all, go to RT and you'll see.
I just realized that in the final boss of FF7 Remake, specifically the Harbinger of Fate boss, the flashes of the future use a couple of scenes directly from this intro.
Yeah i saw that too! It used 1:40 and 1:56
These scenes themselves are the from the ending of ff7 ps1. Remade obviously. But the black screen with cloud Vs sephiroth that's in this and the remake is from the ending where cloud goes into the livestream to finish of sephiroth using omnislash.
It's why alot of fans were freaking out when they saw that scene as it was like they're doing this scene already in part 1? Then what are they going to do in part 3 when it gets to the actual ending?
The choir in the background of this intro is so freaking beautiful. I can't get enough of it. I wish it was on the OST because I probably wouldn't stop listening to it
Blankface91 It is. it's called the promised land.
Promise day
@@NathanWerewuff Спасибо
It is it's called The Promised Land
The version of this song on remake is called "The Promised Land -Cycle of Souls-"
"Sadness was the price to see it end." Perfect summation of the FFVII story. No one was really wrong. Did terrible things yes. However everyone's motivations were actually very understandable. Which put them all at odds. There was simply no way for there to be a happy ending. Great story.
omg crying
except for shinra
Yeah I don't think shinra dropping a plate on all those people is forgivable
@@ThEuNdYiNg1 who said it was?
ThEuNdYiNg1 it isn’t and the person responsible for that is dead, so he paid the price. Doesn’t mean everyone who has ever worked for Shinra is responsible for the plate falling.
"Someone I love went back to the lifestream too." Aerith says this when rescuing Marlene in the new FF VII Remake. Now we know why Marlene says it here.
she does? when???
Thanks for making me cry while watching that scene again, but no. Aerith does not tell her this in Remake.
@@slicer1419 I have no idea what they meant. All I'm thinking of right now is Elmyra. "A man you really really love just died. His heart came a long way to say goodbye. But he couldn't stay because he had to return to the planet"
This hits different after Rebirth. 😭
There are one big different from rebirth.
In here Sephiroth said he hated the planet so much, where in Rebirth Aerith explain that he truly love the planet and want to save her.
@@librashooterRebirth timeline is not the OG 7 timeline
@@librashooter I guess Marlene's interpretation of Sephiroth's motives weren't accurate.
@@viisovari4544Squeenix said that the Remake trilogy will still line up with Advent Children.
@librashooter When did Aerith say that? I feel like I might've missed something
Am i the only one that gets emotional when they're fighting?
No you are not 😉 It makes me think about fighting for our planet too...
That's definitely the highlight of the sequence. After something of a crescendo the choir retreats to a sombre yet piercing groan, and when THAT accompanies the imagery of a remarkably heterogenous group of characters battling for the cause of planetary survival: it successfully pulls on the heart strings.
I always loved this intro
This intro chokes me up so bad. FFVII is not just some ordinary rpg game. It is one of the few video games that feels much more than a game, it really is a journey, that one undertakes either by themselves or with friends and these characters grow so close to the viewers you become more than sympathetic to their plight, you become part of their world. Their fights and disagreements and opinions and quirks entangled with your own. I've played this game all the way through three times, each time a few years apart. This last time, last year, I made it a point to read every single line of text and dialogue and not just skim it but read it like a book, pausing when I needed to comprehend or digest something. This is reading it alongside another player/viewer as well, my girlfriend. The game made me realize what a beautifully crafted journey and struggle it is more than any other time. It is like a very well written book that one can experience with others all at once, if they're just as willing to experience it with you. After playing through the entirety of the game and then watching the movie, this intro; it really, really, really tugs at your heart strings. Most evident to me in the slow-motion showing of the group's final confrontation with Sephiroth. It evokes well the weight of that struggle and what that battle was like to them, on the ground. Something that I admit is not fleshed out to its maximum effect during the game due to in game graphics and the fact you are engaged in menus, strategy and tension while playing. The movie complements the game in this way that few if any video game supplementary materials do. There is nothing wrong AT ALL with the in game graphics, in fact, it actually adds a bit to the story and creates an extremely unique aesthetic. Such as when a very serious and emotional novel would be illustrated in a cute way or from a child's point of view for effect. That said, the movie taking a more realistic perspective shows in a very human way the effects of their struggles and (in the intro) the war on the ground and recounting (Marlene's testimony) in a more relatable real-world way. Simply one of the best and most well crafted games and narratives ever. I didn't even touch upon the joy and depth of the actual gameplay either. Which itself is an entire other thesis on why the game excels and is so great as a "game". Put that together with the way the narrative was written and performed... Anyone who says FFVII isn't a masterpiece and one of the crowning achievements in showing how games are an art form and can transcend the sum of their parts, is just ignorant. I love almost all the entirety of the Final Fantasy series, I've played every one but III. VII is just on a whole 'nother level.
I was teary eyes when i saw this vid... People don't understand how deep this game truly was
I aint gonna read all that. Even though I know your feelings about the game so yeah. There goes another like for your comment.
dude calm down, it just was a game
ff7 is relatable to real life. we live comfortable lives at the expense of the life of our planet.
Juan Diego Gomez maybe it was just a game to you, but for me personally, it sparked my entire love for art today and i’ll be forever grateful for its existence.
I mean come on...to think that this level of profoundness came from a video game..really puts into perspective how powerful games can be.
Watching that scene where Cloud puts Aerith in the water, and after spending so much time with her in the remake, has only made me realize how really hard that scene is gonna hit when it inevitably happens in the second game. I'm so not ready for it...
It's bound to happen theshadowhunter and we all know it.... because that, that one scene is what makes final fantasy 7 one of those games that left painful scars but also left lovable characters and a memorable story of life, death, adventure, sadness and happiness.
@@marc9242 I disagree, it doesn´t have to happen. If that scene does not happen, because Cloud gets to save Aerith, it will still have the same impact 100%.
The impact might be even greater if you think about it. All the pain, the scars, the sadness is finally healed. Aeriths death will never go unnoticed in any scenario, because how can one be saved, if they´re future wasn´t certain death. How can wounds be healed if there never were any. This is a scenario only possible because the original FF7 exists!
no @@subbaro8602
@@subbaro8602Sadly (or not) FFVII is all about the cycle of life and death is a part of that cycle. Aerith and Sephiroth are the 2 sides of this same coin, aren't they? They even share some character design elements... She represents life, nature, light and hope. He's the total opposite. They need each other. When Sephiroth plunges from the sky like the old calamity that almost wiped the Cetra, he enacts his role as a deathbringer. Aerith becomes one with life itself, being "buried in water" by Cloud. She's a seed of hope to the Planet and her sacrifice means that Holy and the Lifestream itself will prevail against the final calamity from the sky that is the Meteor.
@@victormatavercosa Yes, I totally agree with you. But this has already happened. Sephiroth knows every fact you just named, thats why he will not kill her, why would he again after everything she has done through the lifestream? He knows shes the reason why Cloud is so strong, that she is always the last one to push him on that final step. Sephiroths endgame is definetly different, his plan to completely weaken Cloud will work better with her being alive.
Someone I love also returned to the lifestream. My dad. I hated for a long portion of my childhood. Then his last 2 months... he opened up and we were best friends during that time. Then the chosen day came... :( I don't hold any quams about it.. at least he was allowed to return to the lifestream.
You will see him again one day, and the two of you will never be parted.
My Mother 💗
Final Fantasy VII. This game changed my life. This game taught me very important life lessons and how to be the best self I can be. But strangely enough, Sephiroth is the one who I learned from and cherished from the story of Final Fantasy VII. He taught me that you need to control your emotions and have your own mind. His mistakes that made him become evil helped me to not follow in the same path such as not letting my emotions get out of hand or letting other people control me (like JENOVA did to Sephiroth in Nibelhiem).
I’ve also learned a lot from other characters like Cloud, Tifa, Barret, and Aerith like to always treat those with kindness, look out for your family and to always be a loyal and caring friend, to over come your fears, accept everyone, be proud of yourself, always do what’s right, protect other’s well being and lives, fucking recycle, and to never take shit from anyone
Honestly this is one of the greatest stories ever told with some of the greatest characters of all time. I’ve become a better person from learning from Cloud, Tifa, Aerith, Barret, and even Sephiroth. I will always love. Final Fantasy VII
the thing i loved most abt this film was that cloud was the brooding hero. his self-imposed depression resonated with me and i found that comforting - that it was ok morn for something u lost and cost u so much.
Sephiroth is one of my top feared enemies. And although the lore called him evil, he actually went crazy
Because of his bastard of a father did this to him and used him for his ultimate plan
Not to mention his dad is the one who should be one of the top feared and dangerous enemies because he's the real villain of the compilation of ff7

@@reasonablekinda2269I'm pretty sure Gaia wasn't the first planet in the FF7 universe that Jenova had sucked the lifestream out of and used as a vessel to crashland on another planet to destroy. Jenova was a cosmic being of indeterminant age.
"We were able to live very comfortable lives... but wasn't that because we're taking away from the planet's life?"
Take notes, humans.
Stop using your phone then. Lol
Hypocrite. What are you doing using your phone or a laptop to type these comments? Do you have any idea what toll is your tech on the environment? I swear. The hippies are the worst humans alive. First to preach, last to stay true to their own standards and words.
Not to mention, Final Fantasy VII is probably the WORST possible example for any green preaching. In FFVII, planet is actually a living organism, not a piece of rock in space like ours. It has actual blood and consciousness, ours only has minerals and lava under it's crust. It is actually a HOME or heaven of sorts - for those who died. People actually remain their memories and character when they die and join the planet. There is a reason to protect all that as hard as characters from FFVII are. Our planet is simply our home, nothing more. It doesn't bleed, it has no mind or heart, it's not our home after we die, it's only our home now, that we're alive. It's apples and oranges. You wanna preach about the environment, use actual Earth, it's problems and solutions to do it. Not a fictional living planet in a fictional, magical world that's completely unlike ours. Get a brain.
@@mitromney
1.) What does Hippies even have to do with this topic?
2.) I never said our planet is a living, breathing planet. I merely quoted a sentence that expresses the ignorance, we as humans, have done to gain convenience for our selfish lives. For easier access to resources, we tore down more than half of the planet's wild forest for farmlands-- to mass produce. This IS harmful to the planet, your so-called "home only when you're alive".
3.) You are thinking too deep, to assume that I can't separate reality from a fictitious, fantasy game. But you're also too simple, to even grasp why this sentence can be used to describe the state of our world today.
4.) At the very least, be respectful to this "piece of rock in space" that houses all aspects of life. Even after your death, your body's corpse isn't enough fertility to replace the resources you've consumed on Earth, but thank you in advance.
5.) Your entire preach is not relative to my main comment.
@@amyfair3649
1. Hippies are the original green preachers. Lazy, unemployed furry stoners are the founders of the entire green agenda. Serious working people are too busy living their lives responsibly to put up with this bullshit.
2. And I never said you said it. But you used a quote that has to do with magical living planet to tell us, real life humans, to take notes on our planet, which is absolutely insane because our planets and problems are NOTHING alike. Tore down forests.... bad? Do you have any idea how plants even work kid? Forests do not consume CO2, they PRODUCE IT. They also do not fertilize the soil, they DRAIN IT from minerals. Many trees like the evergreens actually poison the soil beneath them.Trees are parasites just like we are. It's US, HUMANS who invented a way to reduce CO2 using trees. Trees only produce more oxygen when they grow. So we cut down old forests and seed entire fields of new trees which produce oxygen and drain CO2 - then we cut them again. It's US. WE DID IT. We learned about plants that drain elements from the air and fertilize the soil so we plant them on our fields to re-fertilize it after old forrests. Humanity shpuld never take notes from disrespectful, ignorant kids like you. YOU should take notes
3. I'm not too simple, I know what you mean and you are wrong. In FFVII universe, Shinra is literally sucking out the souls of their dead friends, parents and ancestors to than turn on the TV and watch news. In FFVII you microwave run on the chewed up soul of your dead grandma. Tell me again how in the f*cking universe is that comparable to our RL problems.
4. There is not a single human being who wants to live on a lifeless planet filled with trash. There is no reason to tell anyone to be freakin respectful, it's obvious that everybody with two brain cells is or at least tries to be. But there is a difference between respect and turning eco agenda into a cult. High recycling standards, pollution regulations and long term energy convertion plans are all great ideas. Shutting down f*cking airlines, scaring people with absurd evo apocalypse warnings, drinking from paper straws, and closing coal mines is insanity that generates more poverty, deficit and death than any possible natural consequences of our current state.
5. Oh it is boy. Maybe you're "too simple" tho

Just a reminder that Marlene met Aerith ONCE, for a few minutes, when they walked from Tifa's Bar to Aerith's mom's house.
She must be talking about her parents.

@@masterxl97 Didn't Barret knew her parents? I find it hard that Barret wouldn't share stories of her real parents to her.

@@SarahB1863 there are two versions of the movie. The DVD is the original and the Blu-ray is the director's extended cut. I always saw Sephiroth as a representation of every human being. We all have a part of us that we would call the bad and evil side that keep locked away because all we really want is peace and good for everyone.

God I tear up every time I watch this. The story to Final Fantasy VII is beautiful and tragic.
Why did they bother redubbing Marlene's voice? Were there legal issues with re-issuing the original Voice actress's performance for the complete edition? Just curious. As far as this prologue goes I kind of prefer the original performance, sounded more like a story being told... which actually discredits the fact that it all really happened. IDK.
Lou Baker sometimes contracts are signed where if there are re-releases they will receive seperate royalties. They will say for instance that if they want to use the performance again, they will have to pay the actor again. They must've found a cheaper alternative.
I obviously don't know the ins and outs of this case such as what the costs were but there is nothing wrong with what they did. Even if it does destroy immersion for some.
A good example is that some mocap performances can't be re-used at a later date. So if for instance they shot a mocap scene for a tomb raider game and then scrapped it. If the contract stated it was for that game alone and they re-use it in a later game using the assets then they have to pay up.
Lou Baker if you've seen Star Wars either rogue one or episode 7. Both used performances from a dead actor. In rogue one the estate of peter Cushing was paid. In episode 7 when you hear old Obi Wan speak a single word, his estate might've been paid. Depends on the contract.
Lou Baker Marlene and Denzel have new dialogue in complete but their old VAs grew up and hit puberty so they just replaced the actors altogether to dub both the old scenes and new ones.
I know right, the other one was more fluid with the story
I’ve finished the remake Part 1. After watching this, I realized near the end of the game, footage from this intro was used. I will not say where at the end due to spoilers.

There is something about this intro that speaks to me on a deeper level 💯 this movie is an under rated gem 💎
They could've stopped at the intro. The fact that there is a film after this is heartbreaking. I take the film for what it is and still enjoy it, but that intro was handled so much better than the entire film itself. The soul of the game is that intro.
This will probably never happen, but I feel like AC should get a "Remake" treatment aswell. It has a lot of writing and pacing problems, but the overall concept is promising enough to be revisited, since Nojima is a much better writer now than then. And this intro is just beyond perfection.
Still gives me goosebumps till this day, amazing movie and also the games
2:00 "Someone I loved went back to the Lifestream too". Who is this beloved person? I can't be Aerith because she only spent a few hours with Marlene in FFVII...
Kev Flynn It was Aerith. At first, I thought it was Dyne, her father. Maybe they spent more than a few hours together. The game's story goes through a couple of months.
malibutaa Yeah, but Aerith is told to take Marlene somewhere safe during the attack on sector 7 slums, but when you reach the top of the tower, she is already under Shinra's possession on the helicopter. Also, the group won't return to Midgar until the Act II, when Aerith is already dead. I think it's Dyne indeed.
Kev Flynn I thought it isn't Aerith too. She said "Watashi wa daisuki datta hito *mo* lifestream ni natte shimai mashita". You know, mo means 'too', but Marlene does not mention someone who returned to the Lifestream before it. At the same time, there is death Aerith scene, and the backsound: "animam sacrificare necesse est?", which means "Is it necessary to sacrifice a soul?" made it more dramatic with Cloud and Aerith there. Well, for me, it's more like Marlene said that people she loved died, just like Aerith.
Possibly Dyne, indeed.
But then I remembered that Marlene could sense the presence of Aerith😓 it could be Aerith too😝
orz
if I may... There is a chance Marlene wasn't talking about some one she knew.
At the end of the video she says "It's been 2 years since they told me that."
To me it sounds like she was just quoting the story that Tifa and/or Cloud told to her and was they who said "Someone I loved went back to the Lifestream too"
Because if you think about a lot of what Marlene says, she would have no way of knowing about and her wording seems more to simplify a long deep story to a child.
If you imagine your self in Tifa or Cloud's shoes trying to tell Marlene everything, it almost fits perfect to what I'm talking about.
But that''s just how I see it.
N-GAME ARTS yeah, that's makes sense. I doubt Cloud tell Marlene that "Someone I loved went back to the lifestream too.". Because He use オレ(ore) to refers himself, not 私(watashi). It could be Tifa, since 大好き(daisuki) is not that uncommon for girls to say how they feel to others. I like to think that Aerith and Tifa are best friend.
Anyhow, just like you say, it could be someone else.
This is spectacular .😁
“And then….. over time….. he began to hate EVERYTHING!”
Goosebumps every time.
"Someone I love went back to the lifestream too"
FUCKING SAME!
I wonder what it must've been like to be an og FF7 Fan, only knowing the blocky polygons and fmvs, to then see this film and all the characters with such gorgeous models
i saw this movie first time without ever playing a final fantasy game before and i expected it to be difficult to follow and it was but because of this beyond beautiful intro with the short summary of what happened in the game i was able to follow at least the main plot to a certain extant. Sadly, the movie itself is rather boring and pointless. i played the original game a bit later to fully understand the movie and came to the conclusion that this movie was unnecessary for to plot. But i will never forget this intro because the intro is a visual and acoustic masterpiece!
Hooray for you.
This movie feels very timely for what we are going through with Corona being our own Geostigma. We treated the planet like crap, and now this is our punishment.
Still a lot of people alive... Not only good people
Covid was man made.
I've always loved the art direction and the music that went into this movie, like this music. This track is so beautiful and emotional. But to me, the story was so poorly developed that it almost felt lacking. So if you want to go into this movie to enjoy a good story, don't watch the movie. You're likely to be disappointed. Play the game instead. It's a great game with a well told story. But if you're in it for a 90-minute visual spectacle, then this is a great movie for that.
This is how Remake Part 3 should end.
" Sadness was the price to see the end", damn It hits so hard...
The Remake HAS to add up to this, I don’t mind small D-Tours but if they somehow keep Aerith alive and have Zack somehow survive and live after fighting Sephiroth, what was the point in this film? The story is too perfect to change
Marlene is adorable
Just IMAGINE ONE DAY WE CAN FULLY EXPLORE MIDGAR 😵
Sephiroth hates the earth ... barrett is an earthling. Barrett is black, making Sephiroth racist.
Not racist if you hate everyone equally
@@Killer_Kris7 that just makes you everyoneist
@@ravenwraith1017 yes. Sephiroth is everyoneist
sephiroth tried to kill the black guy first in 7R but even the whispers went "t h a t s r a c i s t" so they revived him lmao
@@zaqareemalcolm he wasn't in the shinra building at the time😉
Damn.. who cutting onions in here..
Every time I see this opening, I cant but feel sad. It goes to show how great the movie is.
My older brother showed me this years ago when I was but a toddler and till this day I’m grateful that I have those moments/memories with my brother before he had his own kids.😊💙🥺
