This intro chokes me up so bad. FFVII is not just some ordinary rpg game. It is one of the few video games that feels much more than a game, it really is a journey, that one undertakes either by themselves or with friends and these characters grow so close to the viewers you become more than sympathetic to their plight, you become part of their world. Their fights and disagreements and opinions and quirks entangled with your own. I've played this game all the way through three times, each time a few years apart. This last time, last year, I made it a point to read every single line of text and dialogue and not just skim it but read it like a book, pausing when I needed to comprehend or digest something. This is reading it alongside another player/viewer as well, my girlfriend. The game made me realize what a beautifully crafted journey and struggle it is more than any other time. It is like a very well written book that one can experience with others all at once, if they're just as willing to experience it with you. After playing through the entirety of the game and then watching the movie, this intro; it really, really, really tugs at your heart strings. Most evident to me in the slow-motion showing of the group's final confrontation with Sephiroth. It evokes well the weight of that struggle and what that battle was like to them, on the ground. Something that I admit is not fleshed out to its maximum effect during the game due to in game graphics and the fact you are engaged in menus, strategy and tension while playing. The movie complements the game in this way that few if any video game supplementary materials do. There is nothing wrong AT ALL with the in game graphics, in fact, it actually adds a bit to the story and creates an extremely unique aesthetic. Such as when a very serious and emotional novel would be illustrated in a cute way or from a child's point of view for effect. That said, the movie taking a more realistic perspective shows in a very human way the effects of their struggles and (in the intro) the war on the ground and recounting (Marlene's testimony) in a more relatable real-world way. Simply one of the best and most well crafted games and narratives ever. I didn't even touch upon the joy and depth of the actual gameplay either. Which itself is an entire other thesis on why the game excels and is so great as a "game". Put that together with the way the narrative was written and performed... Anyone who says FFVII isn't a masterpiece and one of the crowning achievements in showing how games are an art form and can transcend the sum of their parts, is just ignorant. I love almost all the entirety of the Final Fantasy series, I've played every one but III. VII is just on a whole 'nother level.
Juan Diego Gomez maybe it was just a game to you, but for me personally, it sparked my entire love for art today and i’ll be forever grateful for its existence.
the thing i loved most abt this film was that cloud was the brooding hero. his self-imposed depression resonated with me and i found that comforting - that it was ok morn for something u lost and cost u so much.
Final Fantasy VII. This game changed my life. This game taught me very important life lessons and how to be the best self I can be. But strangely enough, Sephiroth is the one who I learned from and cherished from the story of Final Fantasy VII. He taught me that you need to control your emotions and have your own mind. His mistakes that made him become evil helped me to not follow in the same path such as not letting my emotions get out of hand or letting other people control me (like JENOVA did to Sephiroth in Nibelhiem).
I’ve also learned a lot from other characters like Cloud, Tifa, Barret, and Aerith like to always treat those with kindness, look out for your family and to always be a loyal and caring friend, to over come your fears, accept everyone, be proud of yourself, always do what’s right, protect other’s well being and lives, fucking recycle, and to never take shit from anyone
Honestly this is one of the greatest stories ever told with some of the greatest characters of all time. I’ve become a better person from learning from Cloud, Tifa, Aerith, Barret, and even Sephiroth. I will always love. Final Fantasy VII

Hypocrite. What are you doing using your phone or a laptop to type these comments? Do you have any idea what toll is your tech on the environment? I swear. The hippies are the worst humans alive. First to preach, last to stay true to their own standards and words. Not to mention, Final Fantasy VII is probably the WORST possible example for any green preaching. In FFVII, planet is actually a living organism, not a piece of rock in space like ours. It has actual blood and consciousness, ours only has minerals and lava under it's crust. It is actually a HOME or heaven of sorts - for those who died. People actually remain their memories and character when they die and join the planet. There is a reason to protect all that as hard as characters from FFVII are. Our planet is simply our home, nothing more. It doesn't bleed, it has no mind or heart, it's not our home after we die, it's only our home now, that we're alive. It's apples and oranges. You wanna preach about the environment, use actual Earth, it's problems and solutions to do it. Not a fictional living planet in a fictional, magical world that's completely unlike ours. Get a brain.
@@mitromney 1.) What does Hippies even have to do with this topic? 2.) I never said our planet is a living, breathing planet. I merely quoted a sentence that expresses the ignorance, we as humans, have done to gain convenience for our selfish lives. For easier access to resources, we tore down more than half of the planet's wild forest for farmlands-- to mass produce. This IS harmful to the planet, your so-called "home only when you're alive". 3.) You are thinking too deep, to assume that I can't separate reality from a fictitious, fantasy game. But you're also too simple, to even grasp why this sentence can be used to describe the state of our world today. 4.) At the very least, be respectful to this "piece of rock in space" that houses all aspects of life. Even after your death, your body's corpse isn't enough fertility to replace the resources you've consumed on Earth, but thank you in advance. 5.) Your entire preach is not relative to my main comment.
@@amyfair3649 1. Hippies are the original green preachers. Lazy, unemployed furry stoners are the founders of the entire green agenda. Serious working people are too busy living their lives responsibly to put up with this bullshit. 2. And I never said you said it. But you used a quote that has to do with magical living planet to tell us, real life humans, to take notes on our planet, which is absolutely insane because our planets and problems are NOTHING alike. Tore down forests.... bad? Do you have any idea how plants even work kid? Forests do not consume CO2, they PRODUCE IT. They also do not fertilize the soil, they DRAIN IT from minerals. Many trees like the evergreens actually poison the soil beneath them.Trees are parasites just like we are. It's US, HUMANS who invented a way to reduce CO2 using trees. Trees only produce more oxygen when they grow. So we cut down old forests and seed entire fields of new trees which produce oxygen and drain CO2 - then we cut them again. It's US. WE DID IT. We learned about plants that drain elements from the air and fertilize the soil so we plant them on our fields to re-fertilize it after old forrests. Humanity shpuld never take notes from disrespectful, ignorant kids like you. YOU should take notes 3. I'm not too simple, I know what you mean and you are wrong. In FFVII universe, Shinra is literally sucking out the souls of their dead friends, parents and ancestors to than turn on the TV and watch news. In FFVII you microwave run on the chewed up soul of your dead grandma. Tell me again how in the f*cking universe is that comparable to our RL problems. 4. There is not a single human being who wants to live on a lifeless planet filled with trash. There is no reason to tell anyone to be freakin respectful, it's obvious that everybody with two brain cells is or at least tries to be. But there is a difference between respect and turning eco agenda into a cult. High recycling standards, pollution regulations and long term energy convertion plans are all great ideas. Shutting down f*cking airlines, scaring people with absurd evo apocalypse warnings, drinking from paper straws, and closing coal mines is insanity that generates more poverty, deficit and death than any possible natural consequences of our current state. 5. Oh it is boy. Maybe you're "too simple" tho
"Someone I love went back to the Lifestream, too..." Just a reminder that Marlene met Aerith ONCE, for a few minutes, when they walked from Tifa's Bar to Aerith's mom's house.
Would that make her love them? But whatever, even aside from all that, Marlene is saying this literally over the shot of Cloud lowering Aerith's dead body into the lake. She's pretty undeniably talking about her, even if it doesn't really make much sense.
I always saw Sephiroth as a representation of every human being. We all have a part of us that we would call the bad and evil side that keep locked away because all we really want is peace and good for everyone. But, others when faced with so much trauma become so broken that they lose all their humanity and hope for the world because no one was there to help them cope and deal with their inner demons.
Had to come back to this after beating FFVII Remake and hearing this music at the beginning of the game while you walk through Midgar as everyone is crying and screaming from the explosion. I really hope that further down the line Advent Children has the potential to be fully realized as a game. There's a lot of flaws within the film that's barely 2 hours (Complete edition) that you could 100% flesh out in a 30+ hour experience like FFVIIR.

They could've stopped at the intro. The fact that there is a film after this is heartbreaking. I take the film for what it is and still enjoy it, but that intro was handled so much better than the entire film itself. The soul of the game is that intro.
This will probably never happen, but I feel like AC should get a "Remake" treatment aswell. It has a lot of writing and pacing problems, but the overall concept is promising enough to be revisited, since Nojima is a much better writer now than then. And this intro is just beyond perfection.
When i was younger i thought Sephiroth was nothing but evil. After going on deployment and growing up and hardened Update from 2012 original commen...now in 2024 more as an adult.. I really feel bad for him and pity how much pain he really was in...all he wanted was a family and losing Angeal and Genesis didn't help at all..i know that feeling all too well when you lose friends whom were the closest thing to family you ever had....
Why did they bother redubbing Marlene's voice? Were there legal issues with re-issuing the original Voice actress's performance for the complete edition? Just curious. As far as this prologue goes I kind of prefer the original performance, sounded more like a story being told... which actually discredits the fact that it all really happened. IDK.
Lou Baker sometimes contracts are signed where if there are re-releases they will receive seperate royalties. They will say for instance that if they want to use the performance again, they will have to pay the actor again. They must've found a cheaper alternative. I obviously don't know the ins and outs of this case such as what the costs were but there is nothing wrong with what they did. Even if it does destroy immersion for some. A good example is that some mocap performances can't be re-used at a later date. So if for instance they shot a mocap scene for a tomb raider game and then scrapped it. If the contract stated it was for that game alone and they re-use it in a later game using the assets then they have to pay up.
Lou Baker if you've seen Star Wars either rogue one or episode 7. Both used performances from a dead actor. In rogue one the estate of peter Cushing was paid. In episode 7 when you hear old Obi Wan speak a single word, his estate might've been paid. Depends on the contract.
Lou Baker Marlene and Denzel have new dialogue in complete but their old VAs grew up and hit puberty so they just replaced the actors altogether to dub both the old scenes and new ones.
There was good times We had bad times We mades friends an lost ones on the way All purity an honesty We give back to the earth Return to earth This is what will keep the planet going. Heal the sick Grow stonger Alone we are weak but as a team as one we will win

I was teary eyes when i saw this vid... People don't understand how deep this game truly was
I aint gonna read all that. Even though I know your feelings about the game so yeah. There goes another like for your comment.
dude calm down, it just was a game
ff7 is relatable to real life. we live comfortable lives at the expense of the life of our planet.
Final Fantasy VII
this is still such an amazing intro over like 15 years later
Wait, you or the game?
I mean come on...to think that this level of profoundness came from a video game..really puts into perspective how powerful games can be.
Someone I love also returned to the lifestream. My dad. I hated for a long portion of my childhood. Then his last 2 months... he opened up and we were best friends during that time. Then the chosen day came... :( I don't hold any quams about it.. at least he was allowed to return to the lifestream.
You will see him again one day, and the two of you will never be parted.
My Mother 💗
I always loved this intro
Sephiroth is one of my top feared enemies. And although the lore called him evil, he actually went crazy
Because of his bastard of a father did this to him and used him for his ultimate plan
Not to mention his dad is the one who should be one of the top feared and dangerous enemies because he's the real villain of the compilation of ff7
@@AdrianMartinez-en1nb Almost everything bad that happens in FF7 was because of Hojo.
@@LordMalice6d9 I’d say it’s cause Jenova landed on Gaia, I wonder how she/it chooses what place it’s gonna invade after destroying a planet, imagine it’s just some randomness that caused all of this pain, also I wonder if there are other beings like Jenova out in the FF7 universe.
@@reasonablekinda2269I'm pretty sure Gaia wasn't the first planet in the FF7 universe that Jenova had sucked the lifestream out of and used as a vessel to crashland on another planet to destroy. Jenova was a cosmic being of indeterminant age.
it chokes me up when she says "someone I loved went back into the lifestream."
loved that they used the music in this scene in remake.
This intro...just perfect.
Brings back old memories
Weirdly, my copy has a different English version of the opening narration. It's still a little girl, but it's a different actress. I like this one better.
@@SarahB1863 there are two versions of the movie. The DVD is the original and the Blu-ray is the director's extended cut. The voice actors who voiced the kids in the dvd version sounded too old for the characters they were playing by the time they were recording additional lines for the director's cut that they replaced them for new actors. They did the same for the Japanese audio.
The fact I’m going to be able to see this movie in theaters next month even though this was released 20 years ago makes me so happy lol
Anybody looking back at this after Final Fantasy VII Remake trailers? Man what a time to be alive to be able to replay it like how the movies would look.
I actually think playing the remake diminishes this opening somewhat. Part of what made it so special was seeing the things we knew with outstanding visuals compared to the PS1 game. The remake looks almost as good as this film during gameplay. So there is no awe anymore...
@@robinanwaldt i love the remakes but the ending and those mumbo jumbo about fate and time travel ruined it for me. because then this Sequel Movie will not be relevant anymore. it will be just another timeline
@@vijaz5559 Actually in an interview the creators explained that the story will not be too different from the original so it's not like AC is completely irrelevant
@@samuelmercier2737 well after that ending, nobody knows. it may be possible that the creators would diverge more than they should and not keeping their promises
The remake looks better than this imo
Say what you will, but i legit think the compilation enhances the greatness of the original game.
disagreed, the compilation turned ff7 into a cheesy anime and ruined the mystery of the OG. thankfully, ff7 remake is trying to move away from that and make it a little more realistically and emotionally grounded.
Unfortunately, remake is going to pull from the compilation, it already has in multiple subtle/in front of you ways@@hmnanda
Always gets me when she talks about Sephiroth in such a simple way.
This intro makes tears in my eyes everytime : Sephirot’s story, the team fighting, Aerith’s image...
There were a lot of battles, for every battle there was more sadness. Someone i loved went back to the lifestream too. :( :( :(
Sad that aerith had to die to save the world
tears everytime ...
FF7 isn't a game , its a legendary life changing expierince ♥️
no lie i wont exaggerate but it's like a religion for me (and many others !)
"We were able to live very comfortable lives... but wasn't that because we're taking away from the planet's life?"
Take notes, humans.
Stop using your phone then. Lol
@@mitromney
1.) What does Hippies even have to do with this topic?
@@amyfair3649
YOU should take notes
@@mitromney whoa calm your tits

And I’ve never even played the original game, but I absolutely love Remake.
"Someone I love went back to the Lifestream, too..."
Just a reminder that Marlene met Aerith ONCE, for a few minutes, when they walked from Tifa's Bar to Aerith's mom's house.
She must be talking about her parents.
The ones she never knew and would have no actual reason to love?
@@masterxl97 Didn't Barret knew her parents? I find it hard that Barret wouldn't share stories of her real parents to her.
Would that make her love them? But whatever, even aside from all that, Marlene is saying this literally over the shot of Cloud lowering Aerith's dead body into the lake. She's pretty undeniably talking about her, even if it doesn't really make much sense.
@@masterxl97 Hmm... I guess you're right. It's pretty strange for her to "love" Aerith so I assumed it was about her parents.
Well, I guess I'm back...from FF7 REBIRTH!!! DID NOT EXPECT THIS FULL ASS SONG TO START PLAYING IN THAT LOCATION...
FOR REAL!!!
I memorized the whole intro 12-13 years ago and I can’t believe until now I do. I love this movie so much, it brings back memories 🥺
If this music is in the actual remake, I'm going to cry 😭
It is in the remake. Its called cycle of souls in the ost
@@xamunas It took me a while to realize that it actually was there.
It’s also in the 2nd installment when you get to the final chapter!
Who's here after reaching THAT PLACE in Rebirth?

One of the greatest stories of all time.
Damn. A child being able to comprehend existential threats and the loss of friends and loved ones hits differently.
There is something about this intro that speaks to me on a deeper level 💯 this movie is an under rated gem 💎
The movie is so awesome, they even added some scenes from it on the Remake.
Hands down, a masterpiece.
“Someone I love went back to the lifestream too” 😭
1:43 thats a cool wallpaper ;)
Underated one too
My fave scene bro
I'm playing FF7 for the first time and I gotta say, this is starting to make a lot more sense than when I watched it without having played the game
My older brother showed me this years ago when I was but a toddler and till this day I’m grateful that I have those moments/memories with my brother before he had his own kids.😊💙🥺
“And then….. over time….. he began to hate EVERYTHING!”
Goosebumps every time.
A good opening for a movie.
The music from this intro is playing in chapter 2 at sector 8 in FF7 Remake!!
That's what brought me here
Mr Ten really. What part
TheKira708 this plays in Chapter 2 right after cloud first sees Sephiroth and visions of Nibelheim
Malthael Wow I didn’t even notice that

Just keep scrolling for more cheesy and wholesome comments. This is just for myself for whenever I see this again. Note what you are feeling. I figured I'd comment so you can come back to the video
I love that Remake had this music, right after the bombing mission.
Just came back here to get ready for the remake in 4k with that new trailer recently
God I tear up every time I watch this. The story to Final Fantasy VII is beautiful and tragic.
Every time I see this opening, I cant but feel sad. It goes to show how great the movie is.
I’ve finished the remake Part 1. After watching this, I realized near the end of the game, footage from this intro was used. I will not say where at the end due to spoilers.
and here I'm still waiting for an Anime adaptation to this amazing game.
aren't there already a few existing episodes?
@@seshvswrld there's just 2 or 3 OVA episodes not a complete adaptation

This movie was WAY ahead of its time....the graphics are insane
"The chosen day"
Can I just say no matter how much time passes this movie is just beautiful
They could've stopped at the intro. The fact that there is a film after this is heartbreaking. I take the film for what it is and still enjoy it, but that intro was handled so much better than the entire film itself. The soul of the game is that intro.
This will probably never happen, but I feel like AC should get a "Remake" treatment aswell. It has a lot of writing and pacing problems, but the overall concept is promising enough to be revisited, since Nojima is a much better writer now than then. And this intro is just beyond perfection.
This is spectacular .😁
Marlene was pretty good recapping the whole FF7 story here😏
It's insane that we now have a ff7 game coming out with better graphics than advent children
1:43 I love this scene to death
When i was younger i thought Sephiroth was nothing but evil. After going on deployment and growing up and hardened Update from 2012 original commen...now in 2024 more as an adult.. I really feel bad for him and pity how much pain he really was in...all he wanted was a family and losing Angeal and Genesis didn't help at all..i know that feeling all too well when you lose friends whom were the closest thing to family you ever had....
Just IMAGINE ONE DAY WE CAN FULLY EXPLORE MIDGAR 😵
why does the FIJI water commercials remind me of this 🤔
I CAME HERE TO SEE IF ANYONE ELSE SAW THAT
Why did they bother redubbing Marlene's voice?
I know right, the other one was more fluid with the story
This classical music plays while the narrator explain sounds like an evangelion type of opening.
Marlene is adorable
