If this is a dumb question, forgive me. Im new. I have Roboute Guilliman. It is a rather impressive model. If I paint Roboute and his forces chartreuse and not the nice blue, all other aspects of the force remaining equal, would this still be a playable Ultramarines force? If it helps these would be what are describedto me as "casual weekly games" at the game store. Im researching it but alot of sources seem to speak out of both sides of their mouth. This video is awesome!! After being a teenage hobbyist 20+ yrs ago, your video has helped me paint my first miniature in over two decades! Have watched your video 20+ times, thanks for such a great guide!!
Genuinely one of the nicest and most calm persons I’ve found for learning how to paint. You’re amazing mate, I’ve used your techniques for my new space marines after a 15 year hiatus from the hobby.
I’ve been thinking about going ultramarines. Lots of people make fun of them but honestly, they are the poster boys for a reason. That blue and gold always pops
I agree. These are brilliant tutorials, and I’ve really noticed the results since discovering this channel. The production value and consistency of presentation are excellent, too.
I do like the way hes honest about what will happen eg he shows the brush strokes and bad coverage that can happen on a first coat that no one else seems to show/mention, however if you really want to replicate gws scheme exactly how it's done on the box art then try infernal brush, hes an ex studio painter. Although this guy will get similar just not quite exact results alot faster
This has been really helpful, got back into the hobby after a 30 year lay off. Painting nothing but Ultramarines right now and becoming totally obsessed with it. Love your videos
This is an amazing video, it has helped me so much as a beginner. I didn't realise what painting I was capable of until I watched your tutorials, thank you.
That means so much, thank you. I love making these tutorials for that very reason. I really want to help people paint their miniatures as show them that they can do it :D
Thank you so much. I love making these tutorials and I always wanted to make videos people can actually use and learn from :) I'm glad your enjoying them
I love this video, and it’s super simple, just base coat, paint under suite, gun, then highlights it’s my favorite vid out of all the speed painting videos
thanks man i just discovered your guides and I love how everything is broken down, and your step by step technique feels so smooth. I started again after 15 years of no painting and I'm glad i found your guides

Awesome ultra marines I love your videos and your tutorials. They are so helpful and I’ve been watching you since I’ve started the hobby, which hasn’t been too long because my step dad got me into it just over a year or two ago I love all your new vids keep up the good work thank you
Thank you! I speed painted a lot of mini's for Gloomhaven and Frosthaven, but I just started with doing more detailed Warhammer stuff. Thanks for your great tutorial!
This was an excellent video, well explained, and the quality is superb! Love your filming set up. Don’t stop making videos, you have so much potential to be HUGE. You’re going to blow up, just keep being consistent!
Wow that’s very kind of you to say ☺️ I’m very flattered. I’ve no plans to stop as I this is want I want to do and I absolutely love doing it. I’ve got a lot of plans and working on some things for the future 😃 thank you for the support, it really means a lot
Good job. Nice tutorial. Literally haven't done painting since I was young and there was no Internet to learn this stuff. Remember the first time I took my eldar into a shop and I didn't even know to thin the paint. They were hideous but the guy took the piss so I kinda dropped out of it and just read the books. Getting back in and finding I'm not as bad as I thought. Some great tips here as highlighting is something I've only done with dry brush. So looking forward to giving this style ago. Hope I can get as good a result. Thanks again
well hopefuylly you have a more positive experience this time. I started when there was no internet guides or information. I had to figure it out myself. you were lucky to know someone else who knew what to do as well :P thast why I made the channel, to give people the oppertunity to learn how to paint to a good standard
After 15 years of painting and learning, this is a very similar way thay I paint my Ultras. Only difference is I do the highlights with lighter colours on the blue and use a watered down blue wash to then tone them down. Really great video.
I've been painting for a month and your videos really helped me a lot, especially your tips for painting the edges. I hope you make a video painting crimson fists. :D
awsome, welcome to the hobby and I'm glad your enjoying my content. I'm sure I'll do crimson fists one day :P just a lot of other things I want to do first
Hi buddy fantastic tutorial on how to paint a marine. I'm just getting into warhammer 40k and ive just ordered some marines so this tutorial is going to help me big time. Looking forward to more of your videos. Have subscribed. Cheers Gary 🇬🇧
welcome to the channel :) I reccomend watching my painting your first miniatures video if your new and the beginner ultramainres. They go through techniques in detail
Hey Michael, I can honestly say this is the best guide I've seen in regards to painting 'Eavy metal style. Very well explained, I'd love to see an erradicators/salamanders tutorial in this style.
Thank you very much that’s a huge compliment. I will be doing more marine chapters this year and salamanders is definitely going to be sooner than later 😁
I would love to see you paint camouflage patterns on either Cadians ( I'm trying to get camouflage on my 8th cadian metal kaserkins) or space marine scouts. There are very few videos on how to paint the camo on the uniform itself not as a camo cloak. Love your videos!
This is the absolute best ‘Eavy Metal style video I’ve seen. I thought it was the actual box art! Brilliant. Most ‘eavy metal tutorials are fantastic but there’s always something ever so subtly off from it. I personally always aspired to have that ‘Eavy metal look ever since I saw 2nd Edition and was instantly enamored with 40k and Space Marines, starting with Space Wolves and then Blood Angels and, finally, Dark Angels.
Thank you. I’ve always aspired to be able to at least paint a space marine to eavy metal standard and I’ve spent a long time learning and figuring out the techniques to do so. I’ve also been able to see eavy metal miniatures in person regularly as I live pretty close to Nottingham and I’ve spent literary hours looking at their space marines haha I think perhaps other people’s interpretation of eavy metal can fall short if you’ve not seen the actual miniatures
@@TableTopReadyRUclips wow! That’s awesome to have that luxury to actually see the real ‘Eavy metal models. I would’ve done the same. Please, please do more tutorials like this. @@TableTopReadyRUclips thankyou!!! Also I loved how you explained the edge highlighting with macrage calgar mix and fenrisian grey. Not many videos say where to highlight it with those colours and how to do it XD
I love the contrast paints. I use them all the time for my personal projects outside tutorials. I want to do a contrast video later this year when I get the opportunity
I wasn't able to follow this exactly on my first marine, one of the mystery box push-fits, due to a lack of the correct colours at the time, (primed black, drybrushed macragge blue, for a start...) but this is honestly a super simple way to paint marines that looks great. Thank you good sir, although I did end up spending way too much money on other paints and a box of proper marines...
I do have more beginner friendly tutorials on the channel. Especially for ultramarines. This is a like display level. If this is what your after though then go for it 💪🏻 good luck

This was great. Just getting into warhammer and slowly building my adeptus astartes army, so this pair t tutorial is a must. I appreciate you and please be well
I never would have thought my first space marine would have turned out so nice. I predicted that I would absolutely blow it but I was wrong and I owe a lot to you. Thanks a ton.
This is a great guide as I’m getting ready to paint my minis and my immense backlog. Thank you for your tutorials :) I also am looking for a painting guide for blood ravens and I was wondering if I could suggest that
your very welcome. I apreciate your apreciation ^^ I have plans to cover some of the other chapters in the future, including blood ravens. it will probably be towards the end of the year at the moment
Any tips on painting the weapon black? I try to get a nice coat on it, but cant seem to get it done right. I need to use multiple layers of black to get a nice coverage without seeing the blue. This takes for ages
you've kind of answered for me. if you want a nice finish, there is no getting around multple thin layers. its why talk about it in pretty much every video. This is especially true for Abaddon black because its very pigment heavy and needs to be thinned. remember you only have to paint these miniatures once and you may as well make them look as good as you can. its a matter of maybe an extra half hour over 10 marines so its worth it
awesome tutorial! I'm new to this hobby, and acrylic paints (this is what these are right?) Working on my first marine, and i hated how the box look. Im thinking i can make shading on watercolor (which is very hard to do), i can do it here! but i've been doing watercolor for years. And while i don't understand the reasons why you're doing something. I totally get it. like the "base" that's the first layer. You don't work from light to darker colors like in watercolor, you start with midtones, then add on top. Very cool! I've never wanted to try acylic paints, but this is my jam!
I've never used water colours myself. These are water base acrlics though. I guess using water colours would be like glazing. I hope you have fun painting miniaturers regardless of how you do them :D
Just started painting miniatures and getting into Warhammer. This helps so much. Thank you. Since they discontinued the Gloss line with Citadel color , do you have a recommended substitute fore the Reikland Fleshshade gloss?
Wonderful tutorial. I've recently (and finally) understood how thinning paints works and how to do it effectively. This video makes me want to go back and go over my marines and potentially new ones. Quick question over the separate pieces. What are you using to hold onto the arms, shoulder pads, the helmet? For example at 5:20
I’m glad you like the tutorial. Knowledge is important. Go and watch my getting yiu ur miniatures ready for painting video. I show you everything I do in that video. I’ve updated how I do things since this video. Good luck and keep painting 😁
you do use a different set of skills to paint space marines. They are very satisfying to paint but Orks are far more fun to paint. if your trying to improve your painting then I would recommend just getting some space marines and painting them and try following what I do in this tutorial. you don't need to paint them for anything other than practice. I must of spent a good 6 months just painting space marines and I levelled up like Goku haha
I have done an updated version of ultramarines on teh channel. this is a very old tutorial now and wouldn't paint them like this any more :P go check out my recent videos
Please serius question, how do you take off the arm and the head, and how do you put again to the mini?? Do you have some tutorial talking about that please?? Thats really pro and amazing🙌🙌🙏
When I’m building and glueing any miniature I always like to think if I could leave some parts not glued to make it easier to paint. So it’s a case that I don’t attach these parts in the first place. Once I’ve finished painting all the different pieces I will attach them to the miniature with super glue. I’ve had a lot of people asking recently so I will be working on making a tutorial for this very soon 😁
Thx for an awesome video. Total noob question here @TableTopReadyRUclips, how do you secure the smaller individual pieces to the various painting handles? Thx in advance
Superglue allows us to break off the pieces pretty easily. Usually I would twist the part first to break the bind and the. You should be able to just pull it off. If your worried you could use blue tac instead
what about using it brush everything including the primer would u just go use the blue pot one or use the black put then over again with the blue ? as looking to maybe do everything by brush till get airbrush thanks
The best advice I can give you is to do it the way you want to do it, I brush paint mainly but I'll use an airbrush as well. I wouldn't prime the miniature with a brush though, I always use the spray cans as they're the easiest, after that you do what works for you. Experiment and try things out, see what you like
Awesome vid. Thats the exact technique ill use for my blood angels excpet ill obviousely use different colours. Base Mephiston Highlight1 Evil suns Highlight2 Fire dragon bright
I do have a blood angels tutorial as well. In that I actually start Will evil sunz as it’s more vibrant than Mephiston red. It’s upto you though. All the steps and techniques are the same 😃 good luck 💪🏻
Great tutorial - the video quality is fantastic altogether! Ive started using contrast paints for panel recess shading - might be an option as it tends to darker recesses than washes. Aiming to do any other chapters?
Thank you very much. I really appreciate that. I thought about using contrast for this video, but I thought more people are gonna have nuln oil and just wanted to keep it basic. I’ll be doing other chapters. I recon I’ll redo my black Templar tutorial for the new release and do a proper job of it. I think for other chapters I may paint the relevant character to show more things rather than just a basic primaris all the time.

I also am looking for a painting guide for blood ravens and I was wondering if I could suggest that
your very welcome. I apreciate your apreciation ^^
I have plans to cover some of the other chapters in the future, including blood ravens. it will probably be towards the end of the year at the moment
This is the video that I needed!
I’m glad 😁 hope it helped 👍🏻
Another brilliant tutorial. Thank you for this excellent channel.
Thank you very much it really means a lot knowing people enjoy my content ☺️
It's been 20 years since I painted a UM.... You make it look so easy. 😂🤣👌
I’ve been painting for 20 years now haha and I’ve done a lot of it also editing helps 😂
7:40 - Urdhero!
How did you remove the purity seal and leather pouches for painting? Thanks for the great video!
they are already seperate from the miniature :) so just leave them un attached when building
Been looking forward to this for a while 😊 set a reminder
I hope you’ll like it 😃
Any tips on painting the weapon black? I try to get a nice coat on it, but cant seem to get it done right. I need to use multiple layers of black to get a nice coverage without seeing the blue. This takes for ages
you've kind of answered for me. if you want a nice finish, there is no getting around multple thin layers. its why talk about it in pretty much every video. This is especially true for Abaddon black because its very pigment heavy and needs to be thinned. remember you only have to paint these miniatures once and you may as well make them look as good as you can. its a matter of maybe an extra half hour over 10 marines so its worth it
Ah, brilliant. This is great. Cheers!
Thank you, you’re very welcome
Looking forward to this, the preview looks great
I'm excited :)
Great tutorial, thanks. Liked and subscribed.
Thank you very much. Welcome to the channel. I’m happy your joining me on this journey 😁
Man you always did have great brush control and this vid certainly shows that off
Cheers Ed 😃 20 years of highlighting space marines help
Looks ace going to give this a go 👌
Awesome. Good luck 💪🏻
awesome tutorial!
Perfect tutorial, thank you very much!!!
Thank you. I’m glad you liked it 😁
Great guide that’s straight to the point! Thank you! 🙏
By the way, do you have any tutorials on painting Grey Knights?
I'm glad you enjoyed the video. I do have a grey knights tutorial which I'm also very proud of :D
What is the gadget that you used for hole borrowing on the guns?
Just started painting miniatures and getting into Warhammer. This helps so much. Thank you. Since they discontinued the Gloss line with Citadel color , do you have a recommended substitute fore the Reikland Fleshshade gloss?
I would just use the normal Reikland fleshshade to be honest, its what I changed to. I'm glad you enjoy the content :D thank you
Wonderful tutorial.
@@TableTopReadyRUclips thank you very much! Just watched and subscribed!
I didnt realize they were so small. Now I understand why painting is so hard.
you get use to it :)
my first army is an ork, but man these kind of videos make me want to by a box of marines just because the look so fun to paint
you do use a different set of skills to paint space marines. They are very satisfying to paint but Orks are far more fun to paint. if your trying to improve your painting then I would recommend just getting some space marines and painting them and try following what I do in this tutorial. you don't need to paint them for anything other than practice. I must of spent a good 6 months just painting space marines and I levelled up like Goku haha
muy buen tutorial sigue asi
For the Imperialis i only have reikland fleshshade and no reikland fleshshade gloss, but i do have nuln oil, what do you advice me to do?
the imperialis i mean the chest gold piece
I have done an updated version of ultramarines on teh channel. this is a very old tutorial now and wouldn't paint them like this any more :P go check out my recent videos
👍🏽
Amazing work.
🙏🏻 thank you
Great video, thanks
I'm glad you liked it :D
I use either blu tac or super glue. I have a tutorial called getting miniatures ready for painting in the channel 😁
I now this is old video but you helped me paint my space marines.
It’s an older one but it’s still relevant 😃 glad I can help
@@TableTopReadyRUclips hi just wondering have you got a discord server I could join or is it just for patreon?
I don’t have an active discord yet. It’s something that may happen in the future though when I figure out how to manage it 👍🏻
Love the vids buddy
Thanks!
Your very welcome. I love make them ☺️
You have any idea on how to make a homemade macragge blue?
I don’t sorry.
Thank you
I supose you get the small prieces atached to the wood with superglue, but what did you use to get the small pieces offand not break them
Superglue allows us to break off the pieces pretty easily. Usually I would twist the part first to break the bind and the. You should be able to just pull it off. If your worried you could use blue tac instead
@@TableTopReadyRUclips i didnt even think u would respond, thanks, im gonna buy my first warhammer set tomorrow probably, ill keep this updated
Good luck 😊
I did asemble all 3 and painted one and it turned amazing for my first one, except the eyes but im very happy with the result
what about using it brush everything including the primer would u just go use the blue pot one or use the black put then over again with the blue ?
as looking to maybe do everything by brush till get airbrush
thanks
The best advice I can give you is to do it the way you want to do it, I brush paint mainly but I'll use an airbrush as well. I wouldn't prime the miniature with a brush though, I always use the spray cans as they're the easiest, after that you do what works for you. Experiment and try things out, see what you like
If i follow your guide, as a first time hobbyist to acrylics and Warhammer and it looks awesome. i'm gonna send you 10 bux on here as a thanx. :)
just make sure to take your time and enjoy the process :)
Awesome vid. Thats the exact technique ill use for my blood angels excpet ill obviousely use different colours.
Base
Mephiston
Highlight1
Evil suns
Highlight2
Fire dragon bright
Amazing job!
thank you, I appreciate that :)
