Bravo, I discovered your site by error. Best mistake this month. I am a 70 yo guy. Cancer patient who has decided to write some short stories. Wrote nine drafts during the past month. Couple of westerns, four about childhood and adult based experiences, rest on random topics such as made up random thoughts towards the mystery and humorist story telling format. It feels it is much easier to write now that I am older. Twenty years ago I wrote a thirty-five chapter medical book on diabetes. It was much tougher task. Short stories are fun to create in one to three settings of under 4 to 6 hours. Your topics are first rate. via the coast of Maine my friend
One idea for each paragraph also works for narrative writing. For example one paragraph can dedicated to what the character is smelling. The next would be what he hears. Bad example but it gets the point across. It can be that simple. It prevents long paragraphs that people tend to get overwhelmed by.
This video helped me to figure out why I've been struggling with paragraphs. It was a nuanced detail, but knowing it explicitly has made all the difference, so thanks! Really love your content, hope your channel reaches more people
You know, Harry Dresden, had this skull.... I like the junk drawer analogy. Ive found the R.A.C.E.C.E.C.E.T. Method works well for me. (RA - restate and answer) C - answer the question with probable citation. E- explain its relevence. T. Transition sentence. Also known as R.A.C.E.
This was informative, I’m playing Tetris with my final project, trying to paper save, make my books small, as you said, be mindful of the reader, so will revert back to breaking paragraphs if need be 💯✌️✍️
I’m glad I came across your RUclips channel. Thank you very much for your insights. I would love to see more videos from you. Could you do short videos to demonstrate your thought process/ approach to write paragraphs with different genres etc. Stay safe and blessed 😊
@@WritingwithAndrew Excellent. Looking forward to it Andrew. I sense you are from Humanities. I am not, I’m from science background. I’m fascinated by other folks writing abilities and interested in learning their thought process of writing. Occasionally I read high school English textbooks to understand different genres: informative, persuasive, argumentative, discursive. I regret I didn’t learn those when I was a school kid. With the time I realized literature is the most eternal subject. I am looking resources to learn how to learn writing 🤗 Your RUclips channel gives me an encouragement to find something I missed 15 - 20 years ago. I am sure more people will find your work useful and encouraging. Thank you again and looking forward to seeing more value content from your channel. Stay safe and blessed.
@@iot3136 I am in the humanities, but I'm doing research on science communicators right now, so I've got a soft spot for the sciences, too. It's awesome that you're getting back into the value of writing and literature: there's never a bad time to do it!
That's fair--always follow the prompt! Five-paragraph essays can be a good way to start learning about structure, but they also have real limitations. When you get into more advanced writing, don't be afraid to venture into more complex ways of organizing your work!
I hate the music. I don't like that kind of music and it is distracting. If I had to have music while at the same time listening to you, I could. I don't need your help for that. Please stop that.
Some credit for candor, I suppose. Irreconcilable matters of personal musical taste aside, I hope it offers some relief to know that this video is two years old, and my approach to editing has changed since then.

This means a lot--thanks! Glad to hear you're doing some enjoyable writing--keep it up!
I love hearing someone framing this as expectation versus rule

There should be some kind of integrity in a paragraph. - Nice rule.
No rules, I am disappointed. Ah well, there are plenty of other rules I can break.
Thanks Andrew, please keep them coming!
Thanks for your patience--I'll what we can do about getting some breakable rules to you before too long, haha. Appreciate your support!

You're welcome!
please make a video on writing summaries
That's a great suggestion. I've been thinking about making a video about that but just haven't yet--stay tuned!
I can also see this being successfully applied to fiction.
Yes, definitely--great insight!
Herman Melville : *writes a single sentence as long as a paragraph.*
God ol' Melvin... 😆
Off topic but your eyes are beautiful!!!
It is, but thanks
