I’m confused as to what makes a “main character” in your eyes. You have the likes of Edwin Akufu and Dr. Sharon, but leave off notable characters like Will, Barbara, Sassy, Henry, Phoebe, PB&J, and Jane. Plus Jamie’s ranking is just poopeh.
I’d rank Beard on fringe of top ten, rank Jamie and Sam higher…. Jamie character was one of the best transformations in the show. Loved him and Roy’s friendship
I would argue that Jamie Tartt should have the #1 spot. All three seasons revolve around him, his effect on others and his development. He personifies Ted's goal to make the characters the best versions of themselves on and off the pitch; in most cases facilitates it (Roy, Sam, Nate, Colin, McAdo, Keely).
I would’ve put Will the kitman and Barbra somewhere as they both had a decent amount of screentime. Henry is debatable too but his character only exists for Ted’s development. I would have loved to have one more good scene with Phoebe, maybe together with Keeley but without Roy. As for the rankings, Jamie would be my clear number 2, Roy 3rd. And Dr Jacob clearly last.
I don't agree with the list. I'm assuming you went with people that had the most screen time? Because there are a lot of characters missing. Two side characters in particular, Barbara who would've been pretty low on the list and Will. Will had a lot of screen time in season 3 and he had some of the funniest moments. He had more screen time than Akufu or the other low ranked characters. I think Nate's ranking should be higher. His arc this season was the most heartwarming for me. Definitely top 5.
I would personally have Keeley quite low down. As the show went on, her impact and relevancy in the story lowered, yet her screentime never diminished. Her season three arc had very little to do with AFC Richmond, and yet she got more dedicated time than Colin coming out, Sam trying to make his business run successfully, and I'd be prepared to bet she got more screentime than Nate did during the final season, despite him being far more relevant to the overall narrative.
First of all, none of that means the character wasn't great. B plots are a staple of TV shows. Not everything has to be connected to the main plot. Secondly, she absolutely does play a role in the main story, primarily as a source of stability and companionship for a. the star player, b. a coach c. the owner of the team. All three phases. With that said, the journey she went on herself was also well needed to round out her character arc, so she certainly needed the screentime, and I'm glad it wasn't directly connected to the team after a while. Her whole arc is about self reflection and individualization as her own person. Having her story tied to the team from start to finish would defeat that purpose. I would personally have Keeley *higher* honestly. We first meet her as just some standard model girlfriend, then both us and her find out that she's much more than that, and then together we get to experience the brilliance that is a young woman discovering her talents and through that the best version of herself. Furthermore, she is easily the most mature main character in the entire show. Ted Lasso as a whole is very unique in its ways in that it solves problems very quickly with little drama, which is mature in and of itself, but Keeley in particular rarely makes the immature decision (occasionally a misguided one but that is it) and that is just such a breath of fresh air, plus it helps ground the characters around her in the process. And THIS in turn is tied to her arc as she used to be very immature. A unique character that is written well and played brilliantly by Temple to boot. Keeley is top five if you ask me.
I'd love to see a list ranking the top Ted Lasso scene duos. There were so many great pairings. I love how different actors played off each other. Roy and Jaime. Roy and Keeley. Keeley and Rebecca. Rebecca and Ted. Rebecca and Sam. Rebecca and the pilot. Roy and Phoebe. Ted and Coach Beard. Ted and Henry. Ted and Nate. Ted and the therapist. Roy and Phoebe's teacher.
Brilliant! Side note: after the first scene with Roy and phoebe’s teacher I called that they would be endgame, despite loving he and keeley together. Their personalities were just perfectly compatible, and it seemed the writers wanted to get that across-perhaps to prepare/soften the blow for the audience when KeeleyRoy didn’t end up together. I wonder if they ever intended on e expanding that relationship and just ran out of time, or if……. THE SPINOFFFFFF. Please and thank you. I loved their easy banter that started immediately, and they just seemed like the ultimate perfect match!!!
@@Hmy8799 I liked them together too. I thought maybe they would have them date for a while, but then Roy would realize he's still in love with Keeley. Or he would realize that he and Keeley are better as friends and he gets with the teacher.
The only real point of contention I have with this list is that Jamie should be top 3. His growth has been astounding and so incredible to watch, not to mention that even from the beginning there were hints that he was deeper than the chav-y character he presented as. Dunster absolutely CRUSHED the performance.
Yea, I’d add like 10 more recurring characters to this list, insert them into the ranks accordingly. 1. Will Kitman 2. Richard 3. Bumbercatch 4. Paul 4.1: Baz 4.2: Jeremy 5. Barbara 6. Kenneth 7. John WingsKnight 8. Francis
Great list! But, you forgot Deborah, Rebecca's mother, brilliantly played by Harriet Walter. The funny thing is that she almost play the same character in the other fantastic show ending last week, Succession.
This is not a proper list of best characters. This is a list of likeability. Rupert is a great character. Just like Eric Cartman is a great character. The way you are able to loathe and never root for him, and Rupert as well, is what makes them both well written characters.
Phoebe was definitely missing some air time this season, she is just so adorable ❤ and I wished Jamie Tartt (probably the most improved character) ended up with Roy's sister the hot doctor and Roy with Phoebe's teacher.
I'd put Dr. Jacob at the bottom, followed by Michelle. I thought Rupert was ok at the Super League meeting until he tried to kiss Rebecca. Then again, can you blame in?
And what about Ted’s mother? She had a small role but helped Ted finally express his long repressed anger and frustration and pain over his father’s suicide. She was played brilliantly.
I really don't get the appeal of Keeley. She's not as hot as everyone says, not as funny, not as bright, her work doesn't seem to be THAT great, idk why she's so hyped and why guys fight over her.
I love this show! One of my favorites ever made! That being said I felt like they did rush some things and try to cram in extra story lines that came from nowhere. That being said I still loved this season and will greatly miss this series.
The poetic use of "demise" is more of a downfall (especially from a great height) rather than an actual death. "I can't wait for the demise of social media" would indicate I want it to stop being so important to ppl, as it can't actually die.
@@cuchelo1 when dealing with an individual/person, demise is almost always used to indicate death. Whereas with an entity or company (such as Facebook) it can mean downfall!

I think the casting was perfect. It's hard to pick a favourite character but I loved Will. Often more minor characters in shows are a bit two dimensional but every character was believably real. The only criticism I have is that some things the British characters said and did were just too jarringly American.
I didn't like her as a character but I really liked the way she was written. To see a woman behaving in a way that in a male character would ring loud alarm bells. The ostentatious gifts, the attempt to control aspects of Keeley's life. Big red flags! I was relieved when she ghosted Keeley. A lucky escape!
This takes the characters too much at face value. How good a character is is not related to necessarily how likeable they are and if they support the main character, sometimes villains can be one of the best characters in the show.
odd ranking to me....seems like a "best written" characters would make more sense...the unlikable characters who were supposed to be unlikable makes them good characters. This is just a likability list
what are your rankings based off of? Just Curious, how much they sucked as a person? best moments? impactful or meaningful scenes? Cause while I hated a character like Rupert or Edwin Akufu, I cannot lie some of Edwin Akufus jokes and moments are some of my favorite and would easily trump sombody like Jack Danvers, or Will, or Teds Ex Wife, also Rupert would easily make my list of best characters, even tho he was an asshole, he made a phenomenal villian and not in like get this person off my screen way but a, damn he is so good at just sucking as a character but every scene he is in he easily steals
Doc Sharon should be up a notch or two, just because even though she is staid and proper, she absolutely marked out watching the final Richmond/West Ham game...almost against character. Michelle was my least favorite. I actually hate her. She threw her new relationship in Ted's face. Loved Shandy. I don't care what anyone says. Will the Kitman as Coach Beard was comedy gold.
