I’m currently a Psychology major so it was very interesting to see your breakdown of this song!
Here are other songs that I HIGHLY recommend that I would love for you to break down:
Scars: Embracing the scars they have endured to move forward (this one is in Japanese and they don’t have subtitles for their MV)
Changbin’s “Streetlight”: Being someone’s shoulder but also needing someone to lean on as well (MV but no lyrics)
Han’s “Alien”: Feeling different or left out (was based on Han’s trainee days) (audio but with subtitles)
The one thing that I will always remember when listening to these types of SKZ songs is that they said they “never lie” in their music. Their lyrics are pure and genuine and because of that, their songs really stand out! I hope you react to these songs!

Before I say anything else, I'd recommend reacting to both the Scars MV and their The First Take live performance! I dunno if you've heard of it, but it's a Japanese series where the artists have to sing live in one take and it's posted no matter the results. The First Take has the lyrics in the video and is a beautiful showcase of their talents. :)
I've followed Stray Kids since late 2017, early 2018, when I was struggling with my mental and physical health more than any other time. I was diagnosed with an anxiety disorder at thirteen, and now in my twenties I still deal with it. I'm better in some ways, and worse in others. But for the past few years, I've had Stray Kids and their music. I've always felt understood and comforted by their lyrics, and the members themselves sharing their struggles and supportive words have impacted my life. I remember very specifically that in one livestream, the leader Chan essentially said that our voices are all precious, and there will always be people who want to hear and listen to us. At that time, my anxiety was so bad I couldn't even tell my family, who I love very much, about my day or my interests. It felt impossible to open my mouth and speak. But those few moments, his reassurance, gave me the courage to try. I'm still not entirely over that battle, but his words have stuck with me through these years. Stray Kids really GETS it, and they're not afraid to show that. It's something very precious to me, and many other people. Silent Cry is truly one of my favorite from the NOEASY album, because it doubles as a response to Secret Secret and are their words to the fans. Chan says we can always find them when we need help. Now, I know it's not a healthy boundary between fan and idol to dump everything on them, but just knowing that they're willing to hear is more than enough. They're truly wonderful people and I'm happy to be their fan. 💞
(Top recommendation are: Scars, Another Day, Slump (Also has a The First Take video with lyrics!), and Changbin's Streetlight)

The moment you said that not everyone has that kind of support system, that broke my heart. Because it a sad, harsh truth of reality. I have a friend that moved to another country who have depression, & although I tried to be the best support that she has, the long distance wasn't really working. So I was hoping that her family and the new friends would be enough. Then her mom died, her mental health dropped down from that & cuz his whole family was still grieving no one really paid close enough attention to her. She died of suicide last week, and I'm here praying for her dad and 10yrs old brother to be okay.

    • @Psynergic

I definitely related to the lyrics of Secret Secret as someone who is depressed, but the Silent Cry lyrics hurt way more. For me, I would always try and hide my depression and pretend to be okay because I didn't want anyone to be bothered or burdened by my internal struggles. So hearing a song from the perspective of a person watching their loved one go through (presumably) depression hit me very hard.

  • @cixrus2874

For the lyric "ill say your okay in your stead", its could be referencing a struggle Han has talked about before. He said he often cant fully speak what he thinks in front of people, it gets srambeled or he is to scared to speak up (relate with that cuz of social anxiety lol). So it can turn into aggression or not being able to apologise or speak about what he needs in meetings. Often he would not be able to speak up in meetings because of everyone and then would be forced in situations he couldn't handle. So as a solution he would talk to one person, often a member, and they would go tell everyone else what he's thinking. Silent cry I think is also a response to anyone that would feel this way, its an important song to many so its nice to know that.

I especially love Chans room and the fact that he has said publicly he is there and understands. But it also hurts sometimes to watch because there has been times that some send him cruel comments, one episode he was told to unalive himself, or hate him. Actually Lee Know, Changbin and Seungmin have lives with horrible things said to them😢

I founded skz when I was going through some really hard times; their music and presence brought me joy and helped me cope with it.
Later this year, they came back with this song which was really cool because that kind of support the song is talking about is what I felt from them during that time. I felt really related to the lyrics and like I wasn't alone again, that's why I think their music and how they are always talking about this topics, sharing their own experiences, is so important

I got 2 things to say.
First, I really love Stray Kids although I'm still new in knowing them and I really like seeing you breaking down their song while explaining about mental health issues. So, I hope you'll keep on digging into their works because they're all so talented.
Second thing is that I do relate to the part where you mentioned there are 2 types of people that would understand the lyrics which is the practitioner in psychology field and the ones who've been through it. Before this, I've never realised that I was actually going through depression and anxiety at least not until my doctor asked me to be diagnosed for mental health. But it is just like you've said. We all have our masks on in front of others that sometimes we didn't even know what's real & what's not. To the point that the only safe place we can think of is our ownselves and yet dangerous at the same time. And the fact that we tend to push away the ones that really care for us & wanted to help eventhough we really yearned for help deep inside is definitely true which makes it even worse. However, I kinda find comfort from watching your video which reminds me that there are many more who felt this feeling as I do and at least I'm not alone in that sense. So, thank you🌻✨
And I have a list of recommendation for you below so please react to them! I'm really excited for it!
    1) Sorry, I Love You
    2) Cause I Like You (Changbin & Felix)
    3) Gone Away (Han, Seungmin & IN)
    4) SLUMP (both the Japanese version & First Take version)
    5) Voices
    6) 19
    7) Chronosaurus
    8) Red Lights (Bang Chan & Hyunjin)
    9) Mixtape: OH (both MV & First Take version)
    10) Scars (Japanese version)
    11) Alien
    12) You Can Stay (A song from straykids for their fans which are known as Stays to express their thank you & appreciation for all the support & love. It's a very touching song tho)

Stray Kids' lyrics are really something and I'm glad to finally to see a perspective from someone in your field. Their solo projects tend to be especially emotional and deep and I can't wait to see your reactions on them especially Changbin's "Streetlight". His lyricism there is on another level

3Racha really put their true selves out there when composing the songs. They don’t put fluff lyrics out there. I greedily wish they were native English speakers so we could have these songs in my language. I am thankful for what I do get in English.
I love Stray Kids for their range of song genres, topics and amazing stage performances. I enjoyed your breakdown. Thanks!
Edit: Also, Felix is this group’s lure. He appeals to men AND women and then when you’re in, you fall in love with all of them lol We’ve all been there. Welcome.

I love your videos since I get to learn something new about a topic I am genuinely interested about. I see requests for other songs like Scars, Streetlight, Alien, etc. but I WOULD definitely hope for a reaction to Side Effects or Chronosaurus (but I'm leaning more into the former) since most of their mental health-focused songs often focus more on the comforting/encouraging aspect of mental health. What I do like about Side Effects is it describes the messy/chaotic stuff of mental health issues and the music itself is headache-inducing experience. Idk if Chronosaurus is 100% going by a similar mental health theme, but I find the lyrics and the beat itself unsettling in a really nice way (it's also one of my favorite SKZ songs).
Anyways, take your time and thanks for the learnings!

Thank you! Yes, appreciate the breakdown of their meanings, especially in the context of a mental health professional.
See why Stay like myself (a fossil Stay - a jest amoung some of the older Stay) are Deeply touched by their lyrics. From day one (just after their debut) thought 'dayam if only the KDZ had been around during my youth!!!" yet still today their honest reflection of their own experiences helps with the difficulty of daily life. Especially in the time of Covid , without them the world would be a darker place!

Ok usually I’d come here to recommend some more skz songs but I already left a long list on your last skz video and I still really recommend checking out all of the ones I suggested as they are amazing but I also wanted to recommend a couple of the Rose’s songs! One that really hits hard for me is she’s in the rain. It’s beautiful and has some of my favorite lyrics like you wanna hurt yourself Ill stay with you you wanna make yourself go through that pain it’s better to be held than holding on we’re in the rain. Another great one is insomnia! All of their stuff is beautiful but those two in particular have really touched me and I’d love to see your takes on them!

Before Silent Cry, my comfort song from SKZ was Phobia because of it was very relatable which comforted me while still being a song that didn’t sound like every other song that you made me feel understood. Silent Cry was like a bulldozer when I first heard it. I don’t know Korean but when I listened to it without seeing the lyrics I instantly felt a large feeling of comfort envelop me. As someone who watches a lot of anime, I had this visual image of the moment a character breaks down and is just releasing all of their emotions running while crying and screaming. Idk if that’s just because of the high bpm and almost techno feel of the music but that’s what came to mind first. There’s certain parts of the song where I felt a release if my own stress that had built up and reading the lyrics both affirmed those feelings and amplified them (especially since they came from a group of people that I had been following for a while). When someone says that they will be there for you to just listen and find you when you try to hide within your heart is such an amazing feeling even if its just from a song.
    Love this reaction btw!!

Loved the video! Would really recommend you to hear/see 'Side Effects'. It was a song panned by many as it's not a conventional K-pop song but I think it's just beautiful and literally evokes feelings of panic and high-octane energy. It talks about side effects of fame and listening to others opinions and how it's changing them as people...

I really hope you can react to Scars by them. It's a Japanese song by them and I suggest the first take video of scars. In First take, they did it live and all in one take and the video too have lyrics (the MV for Scars doesn't have lyrics). Apart from Scars, I hope you can check out Grow up MV and Voices too. Those songs were a little bit older because it was back in their debut days. Skz discography mostly touch the topic about mental health and they are 100% self produced (from the lyrics of the songs to the beats, they made everything because they have producers who are the members in the group).

  • @kemipue

The song ‘Slump’ written by Han Jisung always hits me lyrics wise, simple but painful. He wrote it when he was in a dark time. There is a music video and a First Take, but it’s the Japanese version which is good, but the English translation of the Japanese lyrics aren’t as good as the English lyrics from the English version. There are obviously lyric videos and someone put the English version and lyrics together with the video of the First Take. The song itself was used for the ending credits of an anime.

I also liked the song’s beats since the first time I’ve heard it but when I finally read the lyrics - it got to me. I literally saw myself in the lyrics and it broke me down, sobbing. As this is the pattern that I have been following for almost all of my years, especially when having nervous/mental breakdowns, I always go into my room and silently cry in their so no of my family members would notice it as I don’t want to disturb them with what I am going through, no matter what it is. But with Stray Kids and Silent Cry, what I’ve noticed, is that once after having a hard day at work and holding a lot of inside of myself as I stepped out of the bus on my way home, listening to music, Silent Cry came in and I immediately broke down into tears, letting myself to let go. Bc with Stray Kids it literally feels like I can open up to them, even through their songs like this.
Their songs are so relatable and this is what I find so incredible about them and as one of the things that hooks you in. Also the songs that I have been relating to a lot, especially last spring when going through my own burnouts and having constant anxiety at the time and not knowing what to do next - "Another Day" and "Slump" really helped to keep holding on to smth, despite all the thoughts I’ve had. The lyrics both of those really described me at the time and cried so much to them even more bc of it, like I am going through the same things that are being literally sung in there. I’m in a much better place now, still a long way to go to deal with anxiety, but still.
So check out “Slump" (there is three versions - Korean, Japanese and English) and “Another Day", think you’d like to analyze them.
Thank you for your breakdown of the song, it was really interesting to listen what you can say about it~
