    I bought my 240 last year and the OD wasn’t working and required flooring the accelerator to get it to kick down. I found that this ‘fix’ had been done to it. I bought a new unit and replaced it…….much better to have it working as original 😎

    Curious just bought a 1986 Volvo 245 DL Wagon yesterday and on the way home the overdrive light came on and button stopped working. Couldn’t drive about 70mph and anytime I tried to stomp on it the car would rev up but go no where. Really praying this is my issue not allowing me to reach 4th gear and not need a transmission rebuild

    My OD goes on and off, but the final gear of OD doesnt work, only 3 gears with OD..

      That's what OD does. When engaged, it prevents the engine from shifting into 4th gear, so that you sacrifice fuel efficiency for power

    Could you tell us what this mod does? Or why it does it?

      The overdrive switch can stick and leave you and your 240 without overdrive. This quick fix bypasses the O/D switch so that you can gain your O/D function again.

    Awesome video .
    My 1990 240DL is having this issue , of not shifting into 4th . I've read how to do this online but didn't fully understand it , until how have seen it done.
    Thank you again.

    how do I know if my car is engaging into overdrive

      The best way I can tell is to count the shifts. You should feel 4 shifts. Also I’m not sure if your 240 has a tachometer but if your tachometer is reading over 3k RPM at around 70mph your not engaging into overdrive.

    Does this work on 1992 740?

      Works on any AW70 auto trans with a push button overdrive shut of switch.

      It may not be as easy as he showed on this 240. I have a '90 740 and I'm having a terrible time just trying to access those 2 bolts that hold the solenoid in place. From what I can see in this - and other videos - there seems to be more room on a 240 in that area. I wish he had showed how he removed those 2 bolts. :(

  • @bobjohnson1587
    @bobjohnson1587 2 года назад

    How did you get those 2 bolts out? What special tools - if any - did you use? (You should have shown that part because that is the part that I am having trouble with.)

      I just used a 12mm wrench. Nothing fancy. Once you crack them loose they should just come out by hand.

    • @bobjohnson1587
      @bobjohnson1587 2 года назад

      @@volvoenthusiastsgroup3386 Then there must be more room in that area on a 240 than on a 740 because I can't begin to use a standard 12mm wrench to remove those 2 bolts - even one with an angled head. Even a 1/4" drive socket wrench won't fit in there.
      On the 'Volvo Owner's Club UK' site to avoid removing the cross member and dropping the transmission a bit they recommend using a short ratcheting box wrench with a flex head. Having spent some time under the car yesterday attempting to remove those 2 bolts I see no other way to do it on my 740.

      @@volvoenthusiastsgroup3386 Have you ever done this job on a 740 or 940 with the same AW70 transmission?
