    That's why when I studied in Munich, the students there were either from well-off families (my landlord was another student who lived right at Odeonsplatz because his father owns many properties there), or had to live 1+ hour away at the end of S-Bahn line and could only come to university a few days a week. I had to change apartment every 3-4 months (6 times in 2 years) because of shortage/long waiting time for student apartment.

      The exact rule for the fine is: twice of the standard fare but at least 60 Euro.
      On long-distance trains your tickets are normally always checked.
      And as already noted - if you're caught too often you can get into serious trouble. Far dodging is still a crime in Germany - not just a public offence like a parking ticket.

    Thanks for your help!

    • @maxyoko
      @maxyoko  Год назад +1

      If you wanna stay inside of Germany, the ranking doesn't matter that much. Some consulting and investment banking firms do value prestigious universities but most Germans don't put that much emphasis on the name of the institution.
      But it's always beneficial to go to a university with a good reputation and big network
      I'm gonna publish a video soon about the top 5 universities in Germany, so stay tuned!

    Your content is so helpful! Im planning on studying in Berlin and your videos are so informative. I have a question though, in your german guide it says you would need 800 euros per month to live in Berlin but most apartments I see are around 700 euros just for rent making it the cost of living around a 1000 euros. Am I doing something wrong or did Berlin became more expensive to live in as an international student? I would like to know how much would you price the cost of living in Berlin yourself!

  • @Igor-qh7vv
    @Igor-qh7vv Год назад +2

    Hey, Max! Great video, as usually! I am really doubting about moving to UI International University of Applied Science in Berlin, beacuse it's kind of private university and I am not sure if it is really recognizable in other countries. Don't you have such kind of doubts about your university? I mean they are alike. Thanks!

    • @maxyoko
      @maxyoko  Год назад +2

      Indeed, both are not well known internationally but in Germany, they are very well known. Companies love hiring from universities of applied sciences because the approach is more practical.
      I don't have any doubts because in most industries it's all about your skills and not so much about the name of the institution.
      International students value prestigious universities wayy more than Germans

      This is definitely a valid concern, studying in Munich is not easy... :(

    • @i86ij99
      @i86ij99 11 месяцев назад +2

      In Munich, the issue is not only the high rent, but even if you are willing to pay high price, you might have to fight with hundreds of people (including those who already have a job/stable income) for an apartment. Maybe corona has changed things a bit.
      The up side is, being in a big city, you have more chance to find a student job, also in big firms, to cover some expenditure.
      Munich is close to many beautiful alpine retreat, but during my student time, I hardly ventured outside the city due to the constant stress to find new apartment, and to juggle student job on top of my studies. On hindsight, maybe a smaller "student town" might provide a better student life/memory.

    I want to study physics. Can you give me your opinion please?
    Why did you study physics? Why did you say it is future-proof?
    Why did you stop studying it? Is it because it's hard?
    Thank you.

    • @maxyoko
      @maxyoko  Год назад

      So I made a video about why I dropped out and also about future-proof degree programs but here are my short-form answers:
      I started studying it because I was really interested in all the high-level theories and loved astrophysics (read a lot of books, Steven Hawking, etc.)
      Physics is future-proof because it teaches you the fundamentals of this world and also other important skills (logical thinking, problem-solving)
      I stopped studying it because I realized that it was more of a hobby thing, something I saw and was really amazed at. But I was not willing to suffer for it and make a career out of it.
      No doubt Physics is tough but I didn't drop out because it was too difficult. I'm sure with a lot of work, studying, and discipline could have pushed through but I wanted to do something different, something that gets me out of bed in the morning :)

      depends on what you eat, you can definitely survive with that amount
      But probably not fancy dinners or a lot of organic food
