We're going to talk about a song that was so unbelievably great, it absolutely should've been number one. For some reason, be it radio play, lack of marketing, label support or just shear stupidity, the song came up short, but in our hearts its a number one. So which song should I start with? Well, I think I found the perfect one... It may be one of the most electrifying performances ever put to tape.

Help us keep the music alive!
not my tune or song I had thought off. I just could barely remember the intro somehow from far away but I like the guy and his attitude and fight so my spotify account is running his playlist day in and out when I do not listen ... like now, while I am watching TV ... in hope it helps to let the spotify list run hot. The interview with him is great too.
I also like the idea of the series of somehow "hidden champions" and can not wait to see songs .
R.I.P. Benny Mardones. Thanks for making him feel appreciated, Adam.
Absolutely! What a cool moment for him! Rest in Peace Mr Mardones…
Very humble as well! 💞💝
To me, Benny was, without a doubt.....THE ONE, THE ONLY, UNDISPUTED ROCK AND ROLL CHAMPION OF ALL TIME! I'm a drummer and I had the honor of cutting some demo tracks with him back in 84' at Millbrook Studios, NY. It was an amazing experience that most musicians dream about, to play with such a high caliber singer songwriter, he was truly an amazing musician and human being, I have been blessed....truly blessed! I love you my brother Benny....Rest in Peace....I will see you on the other side!
Benny Mardones is one of the greatest singer -songwriter ever!
Rest in peace, Benny. You'll never be forgotten.
Him crying just broke my heart. I'm glad you made him feel good
He had one hell of a voice.
Very distinctive.
So sad to hear that Benny is gone... It's glorious that you could tell him that he has made a difference. Those tears of joy are because of you told him that... Thanks professor...
Yes, my thoughts exactly! Just seeing Benny in tears at that moment brought alot of emotion from me, and now I actually feel compelled towards Benny for the first time, as not just an artist, but also as a person. I actually believe that he might have sunken into addictions because of how he may have been treated during his childhood and into his adulthood. He described in his sitdown with you that he led a rough childhood and also a hard life, which leads me to wonder if he has dealt with toxic people who abused him in certain cases.
How fortunate we all are that you got this interview before his passing.
It seems to me that what was most important to Benny knowing his time was at hand, was not that his song was a hit or that people felt he was an under appreciated singer, but that he made a difference.
I'm 53 years old and also still remember the first time I heard this song. Gotta on my bike and rode to the record store immediately
RIP Benny....died this morning at 73 of Parkinsons disease...thank you for that beautiful song. "Never Run Never Hide" is playing here on Spotify in tribute...
💙💙💙💙💙💙💙💙
RIP Benny Mardonez!!
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Into the night is the greatest vocal performance ever recorded, period.
Agreed...he put his whole heart and soul into it. No one will ever match it.
@@xSTARR999except half of Steve Perry’s sung catalog.
@@amostlyreasonableguy ...You are soooo right. They could really give each other a run for the money. I love Steve too!!!!!
100% agreed. Too bad it was sung by a 34-year-old man, singing about desiring a 16-year-old girl.
Check out the real meaning. Its not what you think @@firecat3613
Great singer. Drugs is really what hurt his life. But he is a legend and didn't get the credit he really deserves.
That song will drag you through time and it never gets old.
Professor, I just saw Benny succumbed today. The first thing I thought of was your love and appreciation of him and his music. ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Benny and into the night will never fade away. RIP and thank you for making a huge difference in this world.
An all time classic powerful mushy song.. It was our song. Ur out there , u know who u are.
Benny had one of the voices that I call the “close your eyes voice”. When you hear something like that you can fully appreciate it if you close your eyes, headphones on and enjoy the voice. Don’t do it while driving though! 😜
Into the night once you heard it,it was suck with you forever!!!!And I was a little kid when I heard it and never get tired to hear his unique voice!!!Always number 1 to me!!!!
I listen to Benny's song every time I put on the radio to clean my house or to sit peacefully out back. Sometimes I cry. He has so much emotion in this song and it reaches right into my soul every time I hear it. Even now it chokes me up as I think of him singing it. Beautiful man, how he helped that girl. And beautiful man how he sings that song.
This song is a jewel 💎
This video was EVERYTHING! Benny was so touched and so humble... Damn... Now my eyes are tearing up...
I agree 100% with you on this song! I'm 55 years old, and I still listen to it today. I remember when it first came out! Such a great tune!
Damn that interview. What a moment. 😭 Thanks Adam and Benny.
The man with a golden voice
“Like you've never seen, ever seen …” 😆 . Love this song one of my favorites of all times ❤
The BEST ever!!!! Vocal is beyond comprehension!!!! The emotion is amazing ❤️
Watching 4/20/24, 4 years didn't age you much! Great content! 😊😊😊
I agree this song is so perfect
RIP Benny Mardones! 🇺🇸🇨🇱 Siempre estaras en mi mente.
I was 15 years old when this song was released. And of course that's how I sang it and would imagine he was singing to me. His voice made my heart feel and do things no other singer could. Robin Gibb was a close second. R.I.P ❤
Oh my I'm in tears with that interview. I know everything going on with him I even sent him Christmas card to the nursing home in California where he resides. Has a nice Facebook page called I love Benny mardones. His wife Jane is the one that monitors the page. If you're not on it then you should definitely check it out. No. This is absolutely so emotional right now so emotional thank you for doing this I am sending this over to Benny and his family and I know they will see it because they see these things on Facebook. They will show it to him
I hope so, that would be awesome!
@@ClickToPreview yep they saw it and it's posted on Benny's personal page and the fan group page we love Benny mardones. I sent it over and they accepted it and posted it. I'm sure he saw it or will see it today.
RIP Benny... loved your voice.
I agree this song is such a wonderful beautiful song
You are so spot on concerning this song-the emotion, the power, the longing, the pain, the love, the everything that this song does with the power of Benny's voice . . .My god, it just doesn't get any better or more powerful . . . By the end of the song you are exhausted . . multi-orgasmic, the ultimate best . . .
he was a real one bro, rip benny
I was just graduated high school when this was released, I was like wow from the opening verse and amazing vocals, but as it played it just kept getting better. Like hooked and reeled in. Fabulous then, fabulous now. I would just hope that it's recognized and Benny is and put on the R&R Hall of Fame. He earned his place and we were blessed to hear such a powerful vocalist
This Song shook the Heavens and rattled the depths of Hades!
Benny's voice hits peaks that bring the meaning of the Song to reality. Definently my favorite song back then and present. RIP BENNY 🤙
Benny YOU COULD FLY!, and You took me up Into The Night, and many nights and days to come....You made my mind, heart and soul fly with you. Benny you deserve all my respect and love from now till the very end of the of times, until we can meet and can see first hand one of your magnificent concerts, more glorious than ever, with wonderful souls as public saluting you in an never ending standing ovation. I feel you like if you were a part of my family (which they also are from Chile) but you my friend are THE ARTIST THAT BELONGS TO THE WORLD.
Forever in my heart Benny, I would love to have the privilege if my family can play your son when I’m flying “Into the Night” When I’m slipping away to meet you in person (or spirit). One thing for sure Your music will live forever! Rest for ever in Peace ❤️💫⭐️
I second that emotion. But he also belongs to Heaven, too. In God's arms.
One of the best songs and vocal performances ever, IMO.
I knew Benny he was a beautiful person. Do hey baby, his vocals are out of this world.
Benny has gotten me through so many speedbumps in my life... not just with Into The Night, but so many of his other great songs... He is my KING... The true VOICE! Why he made so far in Syracuse and not across the country/world I will never know. Love you forever n ever Benny! Keep fighting!
Thanks Benny and Professor! RIP Benny!
Love this song n Benny's his voice is so soulful n yes it should have been number 1
The man was great-This song is timeless it never gets old 🎤🎼
Fantastic song and great artist to feature! Benny Mardones gave everything to that song and sang it like no other could. Rest in Peace Benny.
"Into The Night" is one of those songs that just never goes away. As a young drummer back in 1980 this song was a kick-starter to my career. It's beloved to this day.
Such a great drum track!
You too, huh? It holds special meaning to me as it's the first song I ever taught myself to play on drums, and again just a month ago when I restarted playing after a 5 year absence. I posted this on Benny's fan page where his wife saw it and said she'd have him watch it, but I think things took a turn for the worse suddenly and I don't think he ever got to see it: ruclips.net/video/t9WlvjkMGGQ/видео.html
Yes you are sooo right
One of my favorite songs on my iTunes play list
RIP Benny. It breaks my heart to watch this. Thank you for the music and thank you to the professor of rock for bringing this interview to us.
Thank you for this video. I saw Benny live many times and he was amazing live. Benny had many other songs that should have been hits but never made it up the charts. RIP Benny.
This should have been a number 1. What song and what a voice Benny had.
Keep the music alive # 3 cords and the truth
What a gentleman. Yes, Benny you made a glued to our radio, in the car, at home, at work. You made a pause and feel your pain. Thank you. You made a difference. May God bless you.
A great song lasts forever
Oh what a humble man n a great artist n this song is the greatest ever sung your heat n soul full throttle😊
Totally beyond EVER awesome! Mardones created the perfect POP CLASSIC!
Incredibly under appreciated song, glad I’m not the only one who thinks so.
This song reaches into the depths of your soul! No song has and never will have that intensity! Thank you, Benny! ❤
I don't even wait to watch these videos before clicking the "like" button. I already know I'm going to like it. :)
I was 21 the summer of 80 and started dating a girl who was 17 but turned 18 with in a month of seeing her..This song was blasting all over the radio. It's one of my favorites as well and I have very fond memories of her and that song everytime it comes on the radio..thanks for doing this program...love your channel....
Benny created a literally perfect pop song that will never tire or go away
So true that all those other songs were in big blockbuster movies. Benny charted a song twice by shear talent and word of mouth. A 4min 31sec masterpiece.
Outstanding choice.
my favorite song
Mine too, now and forever.
Mine too ! GREATEST SONG EVER !
I recall when this came out in 1980. I listened to the radio hoping to hear the next time it was played. It was great then and always will be. Thank you Benny. Also, looking forward to the video doc showcasing Benny and INTO THE NIGHT. Great job!!!!
This was my song!!!!! Never get enough of it ❤
Amen, rest in peace brother Benny.
Love your song ❣️
Man, I was crying along with Benny. He was so touched by your words. You are so amazing with the artists you interview.
I have never seen such a humble man! He was all about emotion! Benny! Your song "Into the Night" will live in my heart for ever. Every time I hear it, brings me joy and tears! Love you!
OMG! What to say....just beautiful!
Absolutely a true classic. The voice paired by the instruments is perfection.
Yes, man. The last 60-30 seconds of "Into the Night" are incredible. Benny's vocal are outstandingly raw and great.
I always felt like, wow that dude gave everything he had all in one song! Thanks for recognizing him and thank you Benny for giving all you had!
I have to say that I have an even higher appreciation and respect for you after watching that interview clip with Benny... you gave a man weighted down with his own mortality, reassurance that yes, his life absolutely did matter and how his song moved you and how generations would be appreciating his song in the future... I can only hope when I get older and contemplating the efforts I’ve made in my lifetime that maybe I’ll have someone that would reassure me with the admiration and respect you showed for Benny... Thanks Professor, for the inspiring video...
Yeah, what he said. Absolutely stunning and very astounding interview, Adam. I enjoy your work. I also love the interviews with Dennis DeYoung.
This was a song that I did not fully appreciate when it first came out. As I got older, it just grew on me and I now consider it one of the best vocal performances of all time.
It was a huge success in the FM's of Argentina and now is a classic here. Fantastic song
Thank you for this tribute to Benny Mardones You seriously showed the world what a great singer /song writer he was His voice was magic and every time I hear this song It really resonates deep inside of me. Thank you for this video. I enjoy your channel so much because you keep the music alive and give us all another perspective of these great artist.
ALWAYS LOVED THIS SONG!!!!!!!! CRANKED IT UP LOUD WHEN IT CAME ON!!!! ❤❤❤❤
When Benny started tearing up at the end of your interview, I about lost it. Thank you for discussing this beautiful and insanely great song!
It’s a truly amazing vocal and song
Born and raised in Syracuse NY where Benny is like a national treasure. He became a local musical hero when he relocated here in the 80’s and performed here dozens of times if not more. I am and always will be a huge fan lucky enough to have seen him many times and meet him as well. If you haven’t heard his music which consists of more than Into the night (although it’s a song for the ages ) you are missing out. Go out and get it.
One of the last interview Benny has done, apparently.
RIP. 73 years old.
This was done in 2016.
Can't think of a more emotionally-charged song. Brings back memories of falling in love with my now wife back in 1980 when the song was a hit the first time.
i was 12 in 1980 and totally remember when this song was getting heavy airplay. I used to do my homework with the radio on, so hearing songs from that period takes me back to sitting at my desk thinking more about whatever song was being played by the dj than concentrating on my homework.
So true hes got a great vocal ever
Incredible voice / And best voice may i say ?! 💟💥⚡
Unforgettable song. When I was a kid back in the early 80s, there used to be rotating dance parties at certain friends' houses. Basements or garages crammed full of awkward teens experiencing their first taste of the intimacy of a slow dance, dim (if any) lights, little more than the glow coming from the stereo, nothing but slow songs. All nerves and hormones. And Into The Night was always on the playlist. It's one of those songs that just carries through the air better in the dark like it's made for it, the reverb on his vocal filling the space all around you. A special time and a very special song.
Very poetic. Love your comment. Thank you for watching!
Just seeing this tribute to Benny Mardones for the first time and I love it! Thank you so much for do it!
Man, that song is really something else. I'm from Brazil, a little over 30 years old and, yes, even here it made an impression
one of those perfect songs that you can never forget. thanks for the memories PoR and Benny!
The kind of song that when it comes on already oh it takes you to another place it scoops you up there's no considering thinking or stopping what the song does naturally I remember hearing it as a child and knowing wow this is a feeling this is a song that has magic that can transport you and not a lot of music does 💛💛💛
i remember skating in a couples only call to Benny and my date cried all the way thru it. we were 16 then. been married scince. she still cry's when she hears it. i do too!!
Into the night has been one of my all time favorite songs. I've been listening to it since the 1980's, and can listen to it over and over again! I wish I could have told this directly to Benny himself, especially when he started crying after you told him how great this song has been to many people. It really moved me. I was sadened to hear that he is no longer with us. However, his voice will remain eternal to many!
What a touching interview And you are such a good person and touching his shoulder Shows what kind of a person you are Adam music can create so much love thank you Benny And God bless you both
When I 1st watched your channel I remember thinking, "this guy is good but I should be doing what he's doing. After seeing this video I now realize you are the best person to be doing exactly what you're doing. You made him cry, but the tears were of appreciation. I have NEVER seen ANYONE else pull that off.
What a great video and that little interview bit was very touching.
I am so blessed that I caught your interview with him yesterday. Your kindness and respect and love for him and what he created shows in your interview and in how you talk about his music. Thank you so very much for bringing this interview to the Internet and for loving him and the music he created.
Yes, Adam, thank you. You have definitely introduced me to a song I only at first heard of from time to time and vaguely. I am now so glad to have accidentally clicked on this cherished sitdown with Benny. Just the emotion and humility alone that Benny has shown not only brought tears to my eyes, but gave me the sense that Benny was of a personable and approachable nature.
