    This is a masterpiece of studio sound recording technology. I dreamed of something like this when I was young (90-s). And then the computers came...

      Believe me computers are better than heavy analog equipments.It's hard to update analog gears and they're very expensive.They're huge andyou can do a mix only with a daw.

      Why did you have add that disclaimer that you have nothing against digital? Why is that necessary?
      Afraid of being attacked by ignorant, digital fanatics? Trying to avoid a digital vs analog dog fight?
      It is okay to hate digital. Stand your ground. No reason to be politically correct. I have everything
      against digital, both the good and bad, and I am not going to apologize for it.

    Maaaaan the 124 is a rare beast and by far in my opinion the best sounding clean 24 track recorder. I do love my MCI jh24 but for a nice ATR sound, this is it!!

    That machine is insane! I'm from the days when I used to calibrate the 3M-M79. What a pig that was.

    I remember very well when the 124 was introduced, it must have been 1977 or 1978 at the National Association of Broadcasters (NAB) Convention in Las Vegas. This was the same time STUDER introduced the A800. We made the AMPEX guys very welcome when they visited our STUDER booth. We even showed them the insides of the 800. Yes, the 124 when you had a reliable one was a great-sounding machine. But, alas, as history tells us STUDER took the market by storm with the massive international success with the A800

    I own two (2) Ampex ATR-124s there were modified by CBS in New York. The modified versions I have are on par with a Studer A800.

    Incredible machine indeed. 24 track isn't much better than this. I love the Studer 827, but the Ampex ATR-124 is epic. Amazing music that can be made here. You need a quieter fan. Wow that one is noisy.

    • @xray111xxx
      @xray111xxx 7 лет назад

      Unknown why he is selling. I think he is crazy, but that is just me. Frankly I think support for the Studer 827 maybe better. Parts should be easier to get. Sound wise, it is hard to pick. Man, both will knock it out of the park. Both are legends. Built like tanks. Famous Butterfly heads on the Studer. Tank like Castings on the Ampex that puts allot of Reel to Reels to shame. If I was hare pressed to pick. It would be by the narrowest of margins, the Studer. It is that close.

    • @xray111xxx
      @xray111xxx 7 лет назад +1

      Yep, the MTR 90 Mk II is amazing. I think I like the Studer just a little better, but only just. You have some great machines to chose from.

    • @xray111xxx
      @xray111xxx 7 лет назад +1

      Remember that a machine is only as good as its support. Head stacks, Pinch rollers, belts. Bias boards, power supplies, and so on. If it breaks, you need to be able to fix it. It is going to be expensive, but only worse than that is no parts at all. Documentation is critical too.

    When it comes to magnetic recording there is AMPEX then everything else. They made the WORST tape ever though
    I restore 2" quad AMPEX broadcast video tape machine
    Studer is a nice swiss machine a little rough on tape though esp when the tape hit max tension. Electronics are just ok though. Studer always went for esthetics rather than performance. They are a beautiful looking machine though

      Dream on Vax.......The sound quality of analog sound from ATR 124 is far batter than any digital ProTools , even the latest with HDX cards. That the fact!
