Actually, the original Lara Croft's design wasn't due to this, it was mainly because of graphical limitations back then. The developers needed to make a female sprite/character, which implies an outwardly female appearance, so they just gave her an outward curve or whatever to help physically signify that the character is indeed a female. You'd probably be surprised to know that the original team that made the game had women on it too, and they supposedly had no problems with her design even going forward with later games where it would've been possible to give her a more modest bust. I think it was ValkyrieAurora who even made a video essay on the subject and made some compelling argument in favor of the old Tomb Raider over the new. Unfortunately, I just found out that all of her videos are gone now except for one which is an update vid that I'll be watching shortly.

I did some digging though and it turns out that her videos weren't deleted, just set to private. Apparently there were issues with overzealous fans harassing her and her friends, among other things that she didn't want to deal with. So she decided to make them private and only leave the one update video for now. There are some re-uploads by other channels that snagged coppies of her vids while they were available though if you'd care to check out some of her content sometime. And likewise, hope you do too.
