    Fomapan is really flexible for what it is. I generally shoot it at a one stop difference from the box speed so I get more shadow detail. 50/100/200 is a lot closer to what the films actual speeds are. Definitely worth the price in a time when so many b&w films are aimed at professionals

      I have shot some of my HP5 and RPX400 at 200 in the past and decreased my development by about 25% - 30%. Especially on bright contrasty days. I do like the results I get when I do that. Generally a flatter contrast neg. with a bit better shadow detail and that also helps retain the highlights a bit better to. I can always adjust the contrast to taste when I edit. I'm going to to give that a try next when I shoot some more Foma 400 in my Pentax or Rollei. I agree - I think Foma films are definitely worth a shot.

    It's always nice to see work by someone who knows how to handle the B&W film medium. One lesson to take from this is that, as Ansel Adams put it, the most important part of a camera is the 12 inches behind it. The same goes for film.

    I've been an HP5 user mainly because I was given two 100ft rolls of expired HP5 and have been primarily shooting that. I have mixed results but that is more camera quirks and nuances and developing variances. I have 10 different 35mm SLRs, rangefinders, and automatics. I have tried several other 35mm films but not rollie yet. Your shots turned out really nice. I like the higher grain developer better. Right now I use Ilford DD, again got it for free, outdated but still delivers! Got a two gallon jug of stock so it should last the rest of MY life. I also have been using Arista Premium and Kodak Technidol for my old expired Kodak tech Pan, of which again, a free 150ft roll. Haven't developed the two rolls I just shot so I'm not sure what to expect. For the tech pan it is real old so I rolled a few canisters and shot them at varied ISO. 25, 50, 100, 400, 800, 1600, 3200. Looking forward to the results. Also do medium format with my Holga and Mamiya 645 1000. Gonna have to stock up on some 120 fomapan 400 and 100. Currently in 120 I have shot Arista film and HP5.

      I'm starting to lean more towards the Rollei developer these days for my 35. For my medium format Holga and Pinhole camera I use Rodinal. Looks like you have enough cameras and film to keep you busy for a while. I've accumulated a few my self. I really am enjoying film photography again it's been a refreshing break from digital. Thanks so much for your comments. Enjoy and keep snapping away.

    Hey there Frank, your Fomapan images are always fantastic. Still trying to finish up some Ektachrome in the Contax G, and Delta in F5.
    The Rolleiflex TLR has 2 shots left on some Tri-X for pics of my car. But lately it’s been living in the shop!
    Looking forward to seeing more, my friend.

    • @fasphoto
      @fasphoto  Год назад

      @@stephenlumsden280 Thank you. Yes that is my understanding and it is around $.50 less per 36 exposure roll but for the difference I decided to go with the actual Foma brand which is still considerably less than Ilford, Rollei and Kodak Tri-x which is way out of hand. You also never know when rebrands can change their source but the word is that they are the same.

    • @kitanu6363
      @kitanu6363 Год назад

      Rollei doesn’t make rolls and buys them from foma so basically your rpx 400 is just rebranded foma 400 with some slight changes in the chemistry, if you want the same look for cheaper overexpose 1 stop your foma !

    • @fasphoto
      @fasphoto  Год назад

      @@kitanu6363 On the latest packaging of Rollei RPX 400 it states made in the UK. It would most likely be manufactured buy Harman. Much discussion on this subject. In the US Foma is rebranded also under the Arista brand. I believe Holga film is also rebranded Fompan 400

    I wish you talked about the development times, or whether shot at box speed. I wished you actually reviewed your photos instead of just putting them in a slide show. Since you have access to your scans, you'd be able to see things the rest of us can't see in 1080p.

    • @fasphoto

      Hey Jimmy, Thanks for the comment. The photos shot with the Rollei 35 and the K1000 were all exposed and shot at box speed then developed as shot at box speed - Film developed in Clayton F76 was a 1:9 dilution for 8 minuets at 68 degrees. The film developed in Rollei Super Grain was a 1:12 dilution for 7 minuets at 68 degrees. The plastic cameras were shot at f/9 on the Agfa and F16 on the sprocket rocket and developed for the same times, temperature and dilutions as shot with the other two camera. I do have the developer listed in the description below for each photo. Photography I know, video technique, editing and production is a work in progress. I will keep your suggestion in mind as I go forward. Thanks again.
