@@andrewmiller5126 Lucky Star gained popularity alongside Haruhi back then as a KyoAni series, and its catchy OP theme was pretty huge in Japan. That popularity boom extended overseas, which was very surprising for a slice of life As such, it was a lot of people's first pure SoL series. A person accustomed to any other genre with actual plot(pretty much every popular anime in the west back then) would've been thrown completely off, so a lot of viewers initially got bored very easily with the series' absolute lack of pacing or narrative. It was the same "issue" with Non Non Biyori, which had an even slower, absolutely relaxed and draggy pacing Of course, if the viewers decided not to drop it, they'd eventually enjoy the show for what it was. And so there are people who'd relate to the notion that the first episode felt unengaging. The first episode wasn't particularly any more "random" than the rest of the series. It just left a bigger impact on people's minds cuz the show didn't ease in the laidback-ness at all
I feel like I can relate to all 3 of the main girls. In some friend groups I’m Yuzuko, in some friend groups I’m Yukari, and in some friend groups I’m Yui.

This show is like what Lucky Star would have been if they did a whole series like the first episode.
I hated Lucky Star's first episode but for some reason I love Yuyushiki
Lucky star's first episode almost turned me off, but the rest of it is great.
We need a lucky star x yuyushiki anime
What exactly was wrong with the first episode?

That... is why I like slice of life animes like this. It's so random it's hilarious!
When yuzu screams, she sounds like a recorder.

What does that mean
"Guys, what are you ideas for today's episode's plot."
