Drivers working with/for Car Owners & Sponsorships is one thing, but abandoning that dynamic to force "Cup Series Charters" (aka: Franchises) onto Nascar racing just because other professional sports do it, is as far away from the LEGENDS and ROOTS OF RACING as you can get! Can you imagine if the Kentucky Derby were run by horses from only 20 Horse Farm Franchises??? NO! We'd never get to see long-shot winners like "Donerail", "Rich Strike", "Country House", "Mine That Bird", and "Giacomo" win the Derby! I hate the entire idea of franchising Nascar teams..... Unbelievable. Having JR Motorsports in the top series is a huge win for NASCAR. The popularity of JR is huge. JR Motorsports is the show in Xfinity Series, one of the main reasons I watch that series.
Dale is sooo lucky to have Kelley. She's definitely the firebrand of the name, and super smart w the business aspect. Kelley and Dale, imo are unstoppable.
Kelley is so hands on with everything at JRM as a CEO, from what I've seen and heard. She's everywhere, she works with practically every department, and not just on the racing side.
Kelley is easily one of the MOST respected woman of NASCAR super underrated because of how behind the senses she is but in times like these it reminds you of how great she really is
I think it'd be phenomenal for JRM to be in Cup. I think it'd be fantastic for the sport, fantastic for the fans. I think it'd add more stories to the sport. You see all these great stories over the past couple years - MJ owning a team has been huge, Trackhouse having success, Jimmie becoming part owner... having JRM in the mix would be awesome! and seeing Berry get a top 10 last week had me thinking how cool it'd be had he gotten that in a JRM car. Hopefully it'll happen sooner rather than later, but it's easy for me to spend money that isn't mine :'D
I’m really hoping that Harvick buys an ownership stake in Legacy with Jimmie. That’d be a perfect duo. Both California drivers, Cup Series champs, all time greats, and similar sensibilities when it comes to racing. Plus, how bad ass would it be if they rebranded to Johnson-Harvick Motorsports. Bring Lowe’s and Mobil 1 on as sponsors. A boy can dream.
Kelly is a great interviewer. I know she is super busy. But it would be great if she did a pod cast also. She is great with business. And she is great with a ladies view on racing. As she use to race.
Dale Sr tought Kelly what he thought could help the Earnhardt Family Business. So going by what I've been watching She has done an Excellent Job with JR Motorsports!!!!

The Boss is in the Chair🏁Imagine what 35 million could do in the smaller venues, dirt, modified’s etc. Look how happy Cleetus is at Freedom Factory? Nothing wrong with being where JR Motorsports is at in Xfinity / Busch Series. The last name will always be at the top of the mountain. Let these gamblers gamble on a wishy washy nascar model, the fans are seeing right through it🍺
Justin Marks brought in the Charters. Decades ago Chuck Rider wanted to Franchise the Cup teams. Felix was kinda for it but he still wanted independents to be able to field a team. NASCAR needs butts in the seats at the tracks and butts on couch in front of the TV
Supercars restricts the field to 26 Teams Racing Charters (TRC). Supercars has with held 1 charter (there are 25 in all) and may or may not release it.. Currently if a team wants to go racing, it has to buy a charter for each car entered. These are currently only available if an existing team sells. If a team owns a charter, it has to go racing or lose it's charter.
One big difference between NASCAR charters and sports franchises is that sports franchises control their own value, but NASCAR teams don't necessarily control the value of a charter because it's just an entry ticket. What gets sold isn't the race team, it's just the charter; but sports franchises are what get sold in the top sports leagues, not just an entry slot into the league. The Dallas Cowboys are a prime example of this - in spite of playing a sport that largely just exists on one continent, they're the most valuable sports franchise in the world, because of their history and what Jerry Jones has done to build the brand to multiple times the size that it was when he bought it, doing so somewhat independent of the league. A race team doesn't get to just market themselves and make attention getting business deals and what not to increase the value of their charter(s), their value goes as NASCAR as a whole goes. Maybe we get to the point where race teams build into highly sought after valuable entities like sports franchises and they could have some level of control over the value of their asset(the charter(s)), but they tend to just close doors when they're out more than anything, no one is buying race teams to keep & build the 'brand'. Big advantage to having a generic team name that will hold value over time for your identity rather than your team's "identity" being whoever your sponsor or maybe driver is at any given moment. The reason I say this is because it's a handful of owners that have really propelled the NFL into the stratosphere with their business accumen and aggressiveness - but it sure seems like NASCAR is standing in the way of team owners standing up and taking the lead themselves. If they would get the hell out of the way, the team owners would pull NASCAR up to a greater level, because the team owners WANT to. Let them build their own
Moving forward i think to gain a charter and create a team will be difficult so buying into an existing team may be the only way possible in the near future Like JJ did
You got to get the existing owners of Charters to approve of that And they're not going to agree to expand until teams like BJ's doesn't have a charter
I think the whole charter thing is absolutely rediclous!! If you did that in dirt track racing the sport would be non existing. Nascar has completely wiped out the little guy on purpose and that's why I like dirt racing
My thoughts exactly. Prevents small teams from getting their foot in the door, but it gets worse. The main issue is drivers don't need to actually qualify into the show anymore. Friday qualifying used to be almost more exciting than the race itself.
It's not worth it investment is what Kelly is saying related to the revenue sharing for what a charter cost. It's not stopping others from joining at all
Great Decision Kelly ! The Charters are a flat out Fickung by nascar. Time for the France Family to sell before someone puts a new and improved Stock Car Series.

Jimmie Johnson could afford to run the 84 car without a charter full time if wanted just like 2311 could do a third car if they wanted without a charter
It's return on investment. If you pay the $$ that charters are reportedly going for all you have is a piece of paper, no cars, parts, team, transporter, etc. Where do you get that money, and then hopefully earn enough to pay it back, plus pay the day to day expenses ?
Kelley did not get Dale Jr and JRM where they're at today without having an extremely smart business sense but I'm scared if they don't bite the bullet and jump in now it might be impossible later down the road. Denny has already stated he wants to expand and I would think it would be easier to acquire another charter than coming from the outside in. That being said, you know NASCAR would be chomping at the bit to have Dale Jr as a Cup owner.
But nascar has obviously made it damn near impossible for new teams to come in of their most popular drivers team can't even afford or is scared to get in
NASCAR corporate are their own worst enemy. People can want $35 M for a charter, but given the current TV deal, TV Ratings, and purse payout system, it is a bigger risk than buying an NBA team for $4B. If the Suns sold for $4B, what are the Lakers, Celtics, or NY Nicks worth? Balmer purchased the LA Clippers for $2B in 2014. With a new fancy stadium and being in a big market, what are they worth today? The same value ratios can't be said at this time for a NASCAR Cup Charter until the Sanctioning Body gets their act together and works for the fans and the teams instead of themselves. They fix that, and that $35M price tag would be the steal of the century.
@@johnhaas2523 Given the current ratings on Cup broadcasts, it is hard to see that sort of money. However, given the history of financial distribution, I don't see that much going to the chartered teams like the MLB, NBA and NFL distributes. Something NASCAR needs to understand is that they have a great property, but they are in a serious competition with other sports that are the various outlets for peoples viewing time. So the better they can make their teams, the better the broadcasts. The NFL and NBA learned this many years ago, and now you see the fruits. Oh yea, the league didn't lose money since a rising tide elevates all boats. But when a number of the boats have holes in them, not much rise as they struggle to keep the water out.
Charter teams are held to a minimum performance standard. If a Charter team finishes in the bottom three of the owner standings among all 36 Charter teams for three consecutive years, NASCAR has a right to remove the charter So why does Rick Ware Racing still have 2 charters? It would able to get JRM in the cup series.
I love learning the different angles of running a team. None of us know exactly what it really takes. We can only guess. This is so cool. Please keep it up. ❤😊❤😊
When Charter's were first introduced, NASCAR knew this was coming. There's no doubt, charter owner's initially did not know how the road to financial security was going to unfold as ownership influence was not a mortal lock. It's not only the TV deal, it's the total revenue NASCAR brings in at the track, merchandise, etc. that NASCAR is going to have to share in the near future. It's not going to be an easy negotiation and will not fully occur until the France dynasty is sufficiently diluted through acquisition (by charter members) and emulate other professional sports leagues. NASCAR will never be able to hold off Charter members like F-1 has because of cultural differences and the ultimate sanctioning body (FIA) influence. Should the Earnhardt family wait. Over the long term, I think they should invest now. There are several ways to position it's cost, financing, sponsorship offset and multi-level marketing costs. It comes down to long term objectives the Earnhardt family wants to achieve; stay in the sport / automotive industry, exit and do something else or create a long term asset that their family can eventually sell like Richard Petty Enterprises has. Stewart HAAS is an excellent hybrid example. SHR has value now and the medium and long term to remain involved, pass on if they wish or sell. Hamlin / Jordan, same deal. It will be interesting to see what Joe Gibbs does over the next five years as the succession plan has undergone unforeseen and tragic events over the last five years. Eventually NASCAR will be driven (sic) by Charter members and evolve to a Board of Governors.
JRM is very smart I believe they will buy a charter when a new team realizes the playing field isn't as even as Nascar trumped it up to be as even as it would be and some team will be selling there charter for pennies on the dollar that's when you will JRM moving up
He said there’s tremendous interest in people owning professional sports teams. I disagree. It has become “look at what I own!” for the ultra-rich individual. It’s a rich guy’s hobby and usually not a smart growth business decision. If charters are so great for motor racing, why the serious decline in sponsorship opportunities and viewership ratings? Tracks are blocking off portions of the grandstand so that they can announce “sold out!” yes turnstile numbers are significantly below past events.
@@xavierjuno4572 They stifle open competition, reward mismanagement and dictate participation, among other reasons. None of them good! Those of us within the racing industry, understand this. Enjoy the show. Stay in the stands.
Kelley your a very smart person and I must be missing something but why doesn't NASCAR bring the number of charters to 40 it would help make the pot of NASCAR much bigger?
The JRM name is worth more obviously than the Charter, if you purchase the Charter it’s only worth what a Charter is going for at that time. Same as when you sell it.
If a Charter costs $35 million now, you will be able to buy one in 5 years for $70 million. Guaranteed the price is not going down. Don't let the TV Deal cause fear doubt and worry. Get Rick Hendrick to negotiate the purchase for you. He probably could get it for a slightly better price. I still say in 5 years you will say $35 million was a steal of a price. You will be investing in a franchise for the future. If in 5 years, you want out, sell yours for 70 million. Somebody will have deep enough pockets to buy it. When there is limited supply of anything, the price is always going to be supported.
Charters will change Nascar forever, I understand they are trying to build a asset that will appreciate. However it will be like NBA and NFL, not money get sold very often. So it will be the same Ole car owners for a long time, no room for the blue collar Richard Childress trying to get started.
We don't know what's going to happen to the Joe Gibbs charters since The boys are dead. Jimmie will eventually own the 42 and 43 charters Jeff Gordon will own the HMS charters. You've got teams like rwr and live fast.

Let’s get the Earnhardt name back in cup 🏎🏁🏆
No joke. The GoFundMe would reach the goal in 24 Hours!
Id like more Kelly
I love learning the different angles of running a team. None of us know exactly what it really takes. We can only guess. This is so cool. Please keep it up. ❤😊❤😊
I think whats going to happen is after a new TV deal the charter is going to jump up by alot so the more you wait the costlier it's going to be...
I vote Kelly for Nascar HOF !
I wish DEI was around to sell to Jrm cup series . Or alliance DEI/JRM cup team
Well it's all lot of factors not just the charter system but I think it's been talked to death at this point
The Charters has nothing to do with said Issues. It's mainly NASCAR being NASCAR.
Should be like the old days. Cars show up, the fastest that qualify, race, regardless of any other factor. Charters reward loyalty, just like a union.
Well it's not a black and white issue, there are good reasons why the charter system exist
@@xavierjuno4572 They stifle open competition, reward mismanagement and dictate participation, among other reasons. None of them good! Those of us within the racing industry, understand this. Enjoy the show. Stay in the stands.
@@alvarsdzenis4739 and what exactly part of the industry are you?
@@xavierjuno4572 Owner.
@@alvarsdzenis4739 oh really which team in which series did you own?
They will always appreciate in my mind so just buy one an get at er
Kelley your a very smart person and I must be missing something but why doesn't NASCAR bring the number of charters to 40 it would help make the pot of NASCAR much bigger?
The JRM name is worth more obviously than the Charter, if you purchase the Charter it’s only worth what a Charter is going for at that time. Same as when you sell it.
How about instead of a charter you just qualify well?
If a Charter costs $35 million now, you will be able to buy one in 5 years for $70 million. Guaranteed the price is not going down. Don't let the TV Deal cause fear doubt and worry. Get Rick Hendrick to negotiate the purchase for you. He probably could get it for a slightly better price. I still say in 5 years you will say $35 million was a steal of a price. You will be investing in a franchise for the future. If in 5 years, you want out, sell yours for 70 million. Somebody will have deep enough pockets to buy it. When there is limited supply of anything, the price is always going to be supported.
You missed the boat while your been thinking about it the price has shot through thee roof.
Take 100 million of yours and light it on fire.
@@johnhaas2523 and all of them will have them for decades to come because of their age.
