    If you know why you miss and your typical miss, then you know what to do to get better.

    Great video Sir. I have a few observations in this regard. 1) Most golfers don't spend enough time reading the green. They will practice their stroke a lot but then take one quick look at the hole and hit the ball. 2) For makeable short putts (e.g. 5-6-7 feet) there is an element of hedging your bets correctly to maximize your chances of making it. 3) When in doubt, I always prefer to play more break because I always want the ball to be above the hole for as long as possible. 4) The notion that the perfect speed for any and every putt is 17 inches past the hole was popularized by Dave Pelz - as I am sure you know. (I am a huge fan of Dave; I too come from a NASA background and lived for many, many years in the same part of Maryland as Dave.) But the man he could never beat, the man who caused him to give up his dream to become a tour player prefers the speed that would make the ball die into the hole. And since he has 18 major wins and 19 second-place finishes in majors, I find it hard to argue with that gentleman from Ohio.

    I’m good at putts over 8 ft but miss short ones especially 3 and 4 ft. Good speed but miss mostly left but then right when I try to correct. Thank you for your excellent videos.

    Put with a line on the ball and get it rolling end over end and use narrow putting gates to test it on the flat. Never miss short and never miss low. The success %’s should go up.

    Hey John You didn't mention grip style. My putting has improved dramatically since I watched your grip video and changed to the Paul Runyon style. 100% more comfortable now and making most of short puts (under 4 ft) that I used to struggle with. Thanks so much !

      You’re welcome Jack. I don’t think grip style is why people miss…but certainly some grip styles make it easier to get puts online. Could say the same about the putter.

    My misses tend to be to the right of the hole, regardless of distance or amount of break played. I don’t know if I’m lining up wrong or opening the face of the putter at contact or maybe both. Appreciate any input you can provide. Enjoy your channel- keep up the good work!

      If you consistently miss right no matter how much break you play, then you’ve developed a push stroke or you are actually lined up right of where you think you are. Best way to check this is film your self from behind the ball down the line. Then let me know what you discover and I’ll share some ideas to fix

      @@misteroneputt Filmed myself it was definitely a push stroke. My arms were moving away from my body. So I tucked my arms closer into my body and kept everything else the same and hit some putts on a rug in my house. Although it felt like a pull stroke at first, I started hitting my line! Played 18 today and made 3 putts outside of 8 ft, and left another right in the throat about 4 inches short. I didn’t have any super long putts today (outside of 40 ft), so I don’t know how/if it will make a difference on those. Will up my practice reps to groove the tweak with my arms. Thank you so much for the advice. I believe I’m back on line now!

      @@markswan2582 that is awesome. Glad to hear it. It seems in my one on one lessons most people aim left of their intended line without realizing it and develop a push stroke over time. Glad to help

    Thanks for videos, they are great. Im in Australia and lately I cant drop 2 and 3 feet puts? As a result I am getting really frustrated and even devastated after playing some great approach shots.
    Most times I miss left, im a right handed 14 handicap. Any advice would be so welcome, thanks Brendon

      For right handers who miss consistently left it’s usually ball position too far forward in the stance or squeezing too hard with the thumbs which causes a pull

    Great video. Thanks. My problem is I have a tremor in my hands which makes it hard for me to hold a putter calm long enough to hit a straight putt. Any advice in putter weight or type that might help?

    • @misteroneputt
      @misteroneputt  8 месяцев назад

      I’d experiment with a heavier putter and also with staying in motion in your routine and straight into your stroke without stopping. The steady motion might keep tremors from starting because you are never completely still

    I need help. My putts are right on line up to 2 inches from the cup, then the putt breaks and lips the cup either to the left or to the right. Putt goes the 6-10 inches past so I think my speed is good, I hit my line so I think my read was good as well as my aim. what you think?
