  • In this video I'll show you how I was able to cheat the system when changing the pcv valve, I realized that on the older 5.3 engines you could actually replace the pcv valve instead of changing out the valve cover, my fix, buy an old valve cover and change out the valve for a total cost of $35 rather than buying the part new for $350

    I was trouble shooting my non oil pressure in my Denali after a few mistrials this is my next thing and had the same issue of not being able to remove the pcv valve. Luckily I have a LS engine that I’ve been taking about to get a better I’m understanding of engines but it has the removable pcv valve. So thankful for seeing this before I really even started to dig into getting the one off that isn’t removable. Thx!

    The non-removable style is a fixed orifice, not a metered weight with a spring. Clean the valve cover and orifice, and that's about it. If you heat the new style, I've seen a TY'er remove it.

    If you're going to replace the valve cover, don't go with a used one. Get the updated model that GM came out with just a couple of years ago. Dorman has a version for less than a hundred bucks. This corrects the design defect in the PCV baffle which caused oil to leak out thru the PCV valve which caused oil consumption. This updated valve cover is the way to go. Kills two birds with one stone. You get a brand new PCV valve and an updated valve cover which prevents the oil consumption.

    Not a part of it. I took one out today. Terribly hard but got to use sharp screwdriver and hammer and work it out like a bearing cover. It isn’t a valve though, just a small hole through fitting. Mine was completely clogged. I drilled it out. Not sending that crap into my engine anymore. Complete failure by Gm. Lot of gas, brake cleaner, carburetor cleaner and air to get all the gunk from behind that plate, but it can be done.

    Well I’m trying to remove that part too… guess what…. That’s not the PCV valve.. it’s just a breather…. And I got it out… pryed it out with a short screwdriver… the PCV valve is somewhere else

      Maybe maybe not, I had an oil leak from the sending unit of an 2004 5.3L it was the first sign of my problems occurring after the second time it blew out. Then it was the valve cover gaskets. Now I have to fix a lot more than the Pcv valve now. 🤦‍♂️

    • @castleclubclipz
      @castleclubclipz Год назад +2

      Nope. All 2004-2006 Vortec engines have the PCV valves built into the valve cover, this includes all Tahoe, Suburban, Yukon, Sierra, Silverado and Escalade. You need to replace the valve cover if you want a new PCV... OR take off the cover, drill out the old PCV, and install a rubber PCV grommet from 99-03, along with a fresh PCV valve.
