How to fix Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020 when it fails to start

- Some time ago, I experienced that MSFS 2020 didn't start. It didn't take long before I discovered I was not alone with the problem. The solution was to delete three folders and reload all of the elements. This is how it is done.

copy the community and official folder to another location. uninstall the game. after that, install the game point at the instalation path to the new loaction of community and official. here at my support i fix it for a lot's of clients.

It's a real shame incompetent Microsoft /Asobo aren't able to help, but you have to be lucky enough to look elsewhere to find answers.

Sadly, this doesn't seem to be a permanent fix and downloading >150GB of data every time it happens it quite annoying. A friend told me you can target the delete a bit more carefully, in %appdata%/Microsoft Flight Simulator/Packages/Official/Steam (Or similar) delete the fs-base, fs-base-ai-traffic and fs-base-genericairports and try the game again before nuking the whole folder, hopefully it saves some downloading time (I think it is closer to ~15GB from memory). To be clear, not a permanent fix either, it probably will break again (hopefully Microsoft can get their act together and fix permanently) but it does make the process a lot quicker.
Well, I wanted to come back and thank you for posting this.
I have been searching all day for something to help out, with this issue. I finally found this video, and it's another of the "delete the entire guts and wait a day to re-download basically the whole game, and hope it works" videos. Not to disparage the video, but it's just not a good solution as you pointed out.
I almost didn't try your suggestion here, but I did. So far, we're up and running, again. :) I deleted the folders you stated, here, and it only took about 10 minutes to re-download the 20 or so gigs. As you said, not a great permanent fix either, but it's only done this in almost a year of messing around with FS2020. I couldn't even get past the loading/update screen. Music stopped, black screen back to desktop.
I re-plugged in my peripherals one thing at a time, starting in between just to ensure it wasn't actually a controller or something.
I'll report back if I get any oddball CTDs, but you at least got the sim breathing, again. I plan to post this to the Flightsim Forums, if that's ok. Thank you! :)

@@tonykerr1663 l am trying your fix will report back after the download. I have already deleted the 3 folders you mentioned above and the sim is updating those 3 folders at total of 7.42 G. Either way thanks in advance
for me i’m on xbox and i’m stuck on the loading screen and i don’t get the warning and i have been waiting for an hour what do i do?

Captain Thanks for the video. Juat few question . Regarding the honeycomb yoke did you set different sensitivity or is it teh default one ? Did you think that the color of the Asobo ATR PFD and ND are like real world ? Have a great day
I use default settings for the yoke. The colors of the displays are close to reality.

I have similar problem but the Sim just hangs up before getting to the main menu.
If I pull the network connector out for a second, then it gets into the main menu.
400 hours in, never had a problem. Since update 15 I CAN'T FREAKING LAUNCH MY GAME. II can't believe I spent 1/4 min wage in my country getting the most expensive version of this stupid sim and can't even open it. I'm raging, 15 years gaming and MSFS is the first freaking game that I can't OPEN. Can't get to the MENU.
didn't work for me, those folders didn't exist for me :( Gave up and uninstalled. I guess I will wait for the new one.

It shows error stating some 'AreFileApisANSI' cannot be located. Can anyone please help me on this?
The problem with mine is that I've completely uninstalled the game and reinstalled launcher. And when i try loading the game it comes to the safe and normal mode options as yours but when i choose either mode it will crash right away so it wont even give me the option to download and install the Sim.... I really don't know what to do? This is the first big problem ive had since the game has come out.

I was finally able to download the game. Turns out it was my xbox controller that was the problem. I start the Sim with xbox controller plugged in it crashes. When I start without it, it starts up fine. But as soon as I plug in controller the game will crash. I had delete the file here in order for my game not to crash when my controller connected %USERPROFILE%\AppData\Local\Packages\Microsoft.FlightSimulator_8wekyb3d8bbwe\SystemAppData\wgs
Supposedly you should be offline when you delete this file. There's a full thread on this on flight sim forums a bunch of people were having this problem. The thing is this file is very small you do not have to re-download the whole game that is if it is your problem.
@ghostrunner2138 I was finally able to download the game. It turns out it was my xbox controller that was making the game crash. Try unplugging all of your game pad devices and start the game. In order for your game not to crash you will need to delete a certain file. There is a whole page on this on the msfs forums website.

Hello, on fs display engine parameters, FOB shows the same quantity later after landing ,is that normal or a bug
It's a bug in MSFS: The FMS doesn't account for fuel used. The actual fuel quantity is shown on the ENGINE/FUEL page on the MFD.

Stall recovery:
1) Push the nose down until the stick shaker stops.
2) Add power as required.
3) If flaps 0, set flaps 15. If the flaps is extended, don't touch it.
4) If in a bank, roll the wings level.
5) As speed increases, recover smoothly.

On the MCDU, press PERF button until you see the CRUISE page. There, you will see "1EO CEIL", which is one engine out ceiling. The service ceiling with both engines operating is 4,000 feet higher than that. A video is in the making.
@@FlywithMagnar yeah yeah.. I see that one engine out ceiling... But when in simbrief , it gives me like say 190 for cruise and when weights are put in , the final I go till is like FL150 or somewhere below the level
and sir , could you please explain me what's the difference between max cruise and long range cruise . Is it something related to the cost index or the cruise level and weights
I have no experience with Simbrief. However, when it comes to the cruise altitude, it is ulitmately decided by the pilot.
Max cruise is normal cruise speed. This is achieved by keeping the power levers in the notch during cruise. When you calculate fuel to an alternate airport, you use range speed, as the required amount of fuel is less.
You may also use long range cruise for long flights where you want to increase your range.
But in normal operations, we always use max cruise speed. The fuel saved during long range cruise does not compensate for the increased technical cost, which is the cost per minute of flight.

After clicking continue in safe mode, I get an odd black box appear then the game crashes. Anyone had this or know a fix?
