  • A quick update on my current progress building Tamiya's 1/350 scale USS Enterprise CVN-65, I talk about some of the kit's highs and lows. Also my next build makes a guest appearance at the end!

Worked scaffolding for 25 years in 80's and 90's, did a lot of scaffold on Enterprise. Seeing the small house reminds me how we had to come up clear from the deck to do the yard arms....or hang off of them.

You're right. This kit is the early to mid 80's version of the ship, just prior to a refit where additional radars had been installed to the island structure. This is the "TOP GUN" version of Enterprise. And yes.... there's quire a bit missing from this kit, especially the markings. I believe that the missile launcher sponsons are missing railings, too.
    Still... very cool. Nice job.
But, your build looks really great

Yeah I built this as the late 80s/early 90s version as all the A-6 and A-7s are gone, replaced by F/A-18s. I had to buy all the extra markings, some additional planes, all the photoetched details, the crew, some resin guns... it cost a lot extra to bring it up to standard!

This must be the most laid-back, low-energy video I've ever seen on RUclips. I really enjoyed it.

I just came across this video as I am currently building the Academy 600th scale USS Enterprise aircraft carrier model which is actually a smaller version of the 350th Tamiya kit. It doesn't come with flight deck decals but I found some from Sprue Brothers. They are Starfighter brand decals and even though they are for 700th scale they work out fine for all the deck markings. They also have many decals for the island/superstructure. Don't know if they have them for 350th scale and even though you finished this years ago you might want to check it out. Very nice work by the way.

A lot! I worked on it on and off for about 6 months, probably over 100 hours.

What colours did you use for the hull, flight deck and superstructure? I normally airbrush my models, but this monster is just too big to be efficient with an airbrush. Any insight would be greatly appreciated cheers

Hi, just got this model myself and was wondering if you could give me some advice on order to paint and put together this monster.

    Quick question!
What type of wiring do I need to buy for the antenna wires on the tower?
    Thanks and amazing work!

Cheers! Well I used 1mm metal rods for the bits sticking out on an angle, and then stretched sprue for the flag ropes.

I use this video as reference for my 1/700 model of the Enterprise. I build the Revell one wich is out of box around 1970. I have to rebuild many parts of the super structure to fit with 2001. Btw I used my hair for the wiring. All other things were just to thick…

Hi, I am new to building an aircraft carrier model. May I ask if the parts in the Tamiya kit are colored or I have to purchase the paints to color every part of the model? Thank you!

Yes, many paints, supplies and tools will be needed.

Looks nice. Where do you get the railings?

Thanks! Just from eBay, just searched for "1/350 Enterprise photoetch" and found a nice set that also included all the radar meshes for the island.

How do you create the tire marks where the planes have driven.

    • @modelchili
      @modelchili  8 лет назад +1

Just a bit of dry brushing with dark grey paint. I lightly applied it to build up layers, it also makes it easier to clean away if I stuffed it up.
