We can see it carries the essence of The Settlers III from its demo, not the shame that happened with the last installment of "The Settlers". Although I would say, there're some stuff that bothers me, like the roads and the farming, It looks really promising :D
Actually, from what I've heard the reason this game is so similiar to the old original settlers is because the original creator of the settlers is responsible for this title, after having a fallout with Bluebyte back in the day after I think Settlers II or III he left the company and then everything went to shit, this game here is his "Back to the roots" passion project.
He also worked on the most recent "Settlers", but left when they threw out his designs and made it into a horrendous strategy game for some bizarre reason (My money is on "Design by Executive"
True, as far as i know, he left the studio after the executives decided that the settlers 8 have to become more like AoE because of its popularity. Settlers 8 in its early iterations was almost a complete different game.
He made Settlers I. Then they made Settlers II without him. He joint for Settlers III. He stayed away until Settlers 8 was in the makes. They have give new information why he left the prodject: After the hype started for settler 8 they decided to bring it to consoles. But somebody doesn't count the extra time in it would need. So the management step in and stop them. As they can't make everything in the time that was given to them. They have to cut many things. It wouldn't be his vision anymore so he left.

i def get kid song triggers all the time in games where theres a similar beat or tune lol or just randomly they pop in my head all the time
The guard tower movement is adorable. I love that. Someone has to move that border.
Settlers 1 is still one of my favorite game of all time.
I wish the pathways were more organically built like in the original Settlers series.
