While I do understand the arguments for rebuilding lost castles now in ruins, I don't think it's such a good idea at all.
First of all, you can never rebuild a castle without damaging the ruins.
Secondly, there are too many uncertainties as to what it originally looked like.
And thirdly, even if we did know what it looked like, you have to choose exactly which time period to reconstruct, as some buildings may not even have been there at the time the other buildings were constructed, and so on.
In my opinion it is always best to just leave the ruins as they are, while still restoring and maintaining them with respect to their original appearances as a ruin (no modern alterations like Koldinghus).
If people want to know what it originally looked like (alternative what it probably looked like), I suggest either building a new castle somewhere else, or make use of virtual reconstructions.

Archaeologists may conclude that the castle is from the 1290s, however, if they haven't found evidence of earlier activity, they haven't been paying attention, because in the courtyard there are _several_ very well known petroglyhps that predate the castle by hundreds of years, so the area has obviously held some form of importance to the Bronze Age people who lived there, and for all we know they could easily have built a fortification there - after all the location didn't all of a sudden became strategically important, having some sort of protection built at that spot will have been a good idea long before _this_ castle was built, but sure, the present-day ruin is obviously a lot younger.

I thought the petroglyphs were northeast of the castle at Hammerholm- and not in it.

If you ever visit the ruin remember the visitors center, it is a turist attraction all on its own, it was designed by Jørgen Utzon. the architect behind the Sydney Opera house.

Actually, if you read the Credits, you'll notice the voice acting is an AI (text-to-speech). And I had a little problem/issue making it pronounce Hammershus correctly. Just writing it as it is written, makes it say "Hammer Shus". Writing it Hammers Hus makes it say "Hammers Hohs". But "hus" (da. "house") is pronounced like a short "hoos"-sound. Unfortunately I couldn't make it say "hoos" short, only the long pronunciation, but it's better than making it say "Hammers Who's", which actually sounds even worse... As for Søborg, it wrote it Sirborg, instead of Soborg. "Sir" was the closest thing I could get to the Danish "Sø" (lake), albeit it's not perfect. But I hope it works anyway :). I believe a real human English-speaking voice actor would be perfectly capable of pronouncing it correctly. But I'm on a very tight budget, so AI is my first choice.

It´s free to visit the castle and even more impressive being there. Bornholm is also the island where the Nord Stream gas pipelines were blown up.

    downvoted for AI use

    • @mediumaevum

May I ask why? The alternative would've been no film at all... Only the voice over is AI, not the rest of the content. I'm a terrible voice actor myself, that's why I used AI. The cost of a human professional voice actor would've made a film like this impossible.
