    "Love Shoulda Brought You Home" is the debut solo single by American singer Toni Braxton. It was written by Kenneth "Babyface" Edmonds, Daryl Simmons, and Bo Watson and produced by Edmonds and Simmons along with L.A. Reid. Originally written for singer Anita Baker, who had to decline due to her pregnancy, it was eventually recorded by Braxton and featured on the soundtrack to Reginald Hudlin's romantic comedy film Boomerang (1992). The song was later also included on Braxton's self titled debut album (1993). Lyrically, the slow-groove R&B song is saga of betrayal and infidelity that depicts a heartbroken Braxton.
    The song was one out of several songs from the Boomerang soundtrack that were issued as a single by LaFace Records. Released in October 1992, "Love Shoulda Brought You Home" became Braxton's second consecutive top 40 hit on the US Billboard Hot 100, following "Give U My Heart," her duet with Babyface, charting at number thirty-three. It also reached the top five on Billboard's Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs, peaking at number four, and entered the top 40 of the UK Singles Chart. An accompanying music video for "Love Shoulda Brought You Home" was directed by Ralph Ziman.

    “Boomerang” is a time capsule for all of us who were witnessing “Babyface” and his ascension into R&B dominance for years to come…😎

    This was our introduction to Toni. She blew everybody away with her voice!! Her debut album is amazing- she brought the vocals and LA & Babyface were at the top of their production game !! Also you should definitely check out Boomerang!!

      When this movie and soundtrack came out I was in Atlanta GA visiting and she gave a free concert in Piedmont Park. No one really knew who she was but the marketing of her 1st album was using the concert as a pretext while the movie was out and the rest was history. She blew us all away.

    For one, Toni's entire first album is 🔥, secondly, "Boomerang" is a classic must see movie.. Check out Toni's " Another sad love song" and "Seven whole days".

    Empress I mentioned before that you should watch Boomerang 🤣😂. This was one of Toni's first singles along with Give You My Heart(duet with Babyface). This was the start of the magical collaborations with Toni & Face. There's a line in the movie that inspired this title. Babyface is today's Curtis Mayfield. They can tell a story through a soundtrack.

    Fun fact: Toni recorded this as a demo because Babyface, songwriter and producer, wanted Anita Baker to record the song for the soundtrack. Basically Anita was like "nah, i'm not feelin it. why don't you just release it with the girl singing the demo"?
    And the rest is history....
    Also - sis you haven't seen Boomerang? whew...we stay failing the young generation in raising them with the right black cultural artificats! GO SEE IT RIGHT NOW lol

      Anita was pregnant at the time, not sure I heard she wasn't feeling the songs, but she did suggest this song and I think "Give You My Heart" go to Toni who was the demo singer, bless Anita Baker for that, she helped gift the world to the talented Toni Braxton who is now a Living Legend herself like Anita B.

    It's impossible to convey just how competitive is was for female pop vocalists in the late 80's/early 90's. Whitney thought she had it locked down.. then Mariah Carey showed up along with Celine Dion and Toni Braxton.. not to mention competition from Taylor Dayne and others. And, that's just the serious vocalists... Madonna, and Janet Jackson were in a different category altogether.

    ***TONI BRAXTON TRIVIA TIME!!*** .....It should bring you Home.....
    ....Tyler L. below told the beginning of Toni getting the tune, but I'll fill in the rest;
    - ...Toni & her Sisters (as a group), were to get a label deal thru LaFace Records, who were in charge of the Soundtrack to Eddie Murphy's "Boomerang", and Babyface & LA Reid plucked Toni out from the Sisters (for a Solo deal), because she had the most 'presence'; Toni recorded "Give U My Heart" (a duet with Babyface) & "Love Should Have Brought..." for the Sndtk. .......
    - ...UH-Oh...Top 10 R&B hit /Top 30 Pop hit for "Give U..." but "Love Should..." was MASSIVE!! ....#1 R&B, and Top 20 Pop!! ...in an INSTANT, Toni was THE 'Girl'!! ...She had a 'round the way Girl look, but with a smoky, jazzy Anita Baker vibe...and.....the most IMPORTANT thing.....
    - ***THAT SHORT HAIRCUT!!!*** ....Sooooooooooooooooooooo MANY Black Girls got that haircut, 1993-era Brooklyn, NY looked like a SEA of Toni's! ...HA-HAAA!! ...One Month after "Love..", came "Another Sad Love Song", and Toni was off and RUNNING!
    ...and, another little tidbit I noticed then; In The Video, Toni's preferred "look" (then), was Men's shirts & Ties, causing rumors that Toni was a Lesbian....by the end of 1993, Toni became THE GIRL lesbians desired, and remains, one of the Top 5 lesbian 'gets', along with Janet Jackson, Janelle Monae, Katy Perry, & Kirsten Stewart..... Halle Berry was demoted....

    Toni recently revealed she has lupus....a form that messes with her heart and blood. All lupus is bad. This particular one is worse. The stress of singing live, moving on stage, sweating, etc....it could literally kill her. So she is no longer going to perform live. Sad. I think today I will dive into Toni's discography while cleaning.👍
