    Your turbine looks very similar to the old SWWP AIR, a company now defunct. I have a lot of experience with these little turbines. Its imperative you get the unit up above anything taller close to it...including trees. It looks to me like your guy wires are too light, and the pole may be as well. Any icing conditions at all, and you are going to have spaghetti on the ground. I will be following, best of luck.

    The days are getting shorter now. Hopefully the wind turbine will help during the darker months. The property isn't pending yet. It would be a nice location with the additional land for firewood and hunting. Someone gave us a price of 550 for 1.5 cords and 35 delivery fee. (In PA) So 585 for a cord and a half. Anyone else is charging 200 a cord right now. (cut and split) I haven't had to buy wood for a long time so I didn't know what to expect. Use to be 600 for a tri-axle load. I have a couple standing dead trees I still have to cut but don't want to cut anything else right now. Will there be a point when you don't have wood available on your current land to cut? It's not like you can order a truck load. Just curious.

    • @AnAlaskaHomestead
      @AnAlaskaHomestead  2 года назад

      That’s cheap, it’s $300 a cord in Juneau. You can harvest 25 cords a year on state and fed land as long as it’s standing dead or blowdown.

    What is the nominal power of your turbine? Seems like solar power is very popular, but wind turbine - almost nobody has it. Do you know any reasons for this? What are pros for wind turbine? With 7-8 hours of daylight (where i live) it seems imposible to survive on solar during the winter. Is wind turbine the answer for this?

      I think it’s 400 watts at 20 mph. I think we get 6 hours in the winter months and magically the winds pick up in the winter. So this is just to help off set some of the fuel we will use charging the batteries in the winter months.

    Does the wind turbine have limits on when it can be used with wind speeds?

      Yes, it has blow at least 8 mph to generate any power and supposedly can withstand winds up to 100 mph.

    That was a waste of money no doubt. Wind can be effective on small scale, but not this small. If you are going to go shopping for a turbine? Look in the 1500-2000 watt range for something that weighs 50kg or more. The weight is how you tell the junk for the good ones.
