We lost Vin today, I'm heartbroken; he will forever be the voice of the Dodgers. RIP
Vin, was the Voice of Sports, period!!
Vin was so much more then just the voice of the Dodgers, he was the voice of baseball itself.
He was the single finest baseball announcer the game has ever had. RIP Vin, you will be missed.
Heartbroken ?
He was in his 90s
@@biffalobull2335 Uh huh -- and? I didn't say it wasn't expected.
that lady he married Sandra hunt was my cousin and they together again Michele from NC.
No one alive or already gone can give a speech like Kevin Costner! And no one works as hard as Kevin Costner!
Boy Kevin Costner is a great speaker.
No, Vin Scully, thank YOU for the stories, the legendary moments, the unforgivable calls, and your immeasurable contribution to the game of baseball. Jack Buck couldn’t believe what he just saw because he had just seen the impossible. RIP from a grateful Cubs fan and a baseball fan.
Also a Cubs fan and Dodger hating fan, but what you wrote, Dustin, is 100% true. Thank you.
Damn I'm in tears
I tried not to think about it today and I was ok.
Look where am I now. 😔
RIP Mr. Scully. You will never be forgotten and no one after you will broadcast a sporting event as elegant, as perfectly as you did.
Say hi to Tommy and now you are forever with your wife.
We will miss you and one last time.
ITS TIME FOR DODGER BASEBALL!!!
I sobbed through the whole speech. Vin Scully and Chick Hearn were the greatest I've ever heard.
Don’t forget Red Barber, Mel Allen. Waite Hoyt and Harry Carey. They were the greats of baseball announcers. Vin Scully, however, was the best of the best.
Don't forget the great Ernie Harwell.
Monica Brown: I lived in LA for 5 years, '77-'82, and I constantly was in awe of the ability of these two men to call their respective sports.
Being from Detroit, I got spoiled on Ernie Harwell's broadcasts, and these two were his equal on the mike.
LA was extremely lucky to have Vin, Chick, Bob Miller, and Dick Enberg as well.
RIP, Vinny. You will always be the voice of the Los Angeles Dodgers.
Poetry. He was poetry. He made the game into something so much more beautiful. It will never know another. Thank you, Vin.
Velvet+Visionary Soul!!
Thank You, Precious Heart, for Sharing Your Gifts With Humanity!!
Always!!
💛💛
this combined with Vins passing brings all the tears. RIP Vin. you will be forever missed by the fans of the Dodgers and of the game of baseball.
A rare breed. Vin, we owe you the world.
Thank you for being a someone to lean on.
Scully’s voice was to baseball what Walter Conkrite the News, Johnny Carson to Late Night TV, Elvis to Rock & Roll..
He was “The Guy”…signed a Bostonian
Vin Scully WAS always FAIR in his sports announcing.A TRUE LEGEND.
Rst28 GOAT..Greatest of All time...
Carson was a notorious lecherous nasty drunk and HRH Cronkite personally ensured we'd lose in Vietnam.....as to the skull....Oh come let us adore him
Kevin, Costner, I think you are the most wonderful, awesome, talented, and a man with integrity I’ve ever seen on TV. I wish my day I can meet you in person. God bless you and your family. I know that you are going through a great deal right now.
Thank you Billy Chapel for your beautiful speech. I will always love Vin Scully
One more day of summer
Anyone that has watched Dodger Baseball know that Vin is family and always will be, hes been in our homes for forever. Truly a Hall of Famer and I'm thankful for the time that Vin blessed us with his voice. We will always love u Vin Scully!!! R.I.P 😢
Mr Scully was a wonderful positive role model. Calm, dignified, respectful, humble, and he used his gifts. We thank our heavenly father for that.
" the skinny kid who stood on the shoulders of the tallest kid and looked through the knothole in the fence"... wow that's beautiful.
Beautiful tribute Mr. Costner !
💙💙💙💙💙🤍🤍🤍🤍🤍🤍❣️
nobody could've done it better than Kevin.
Wow. What a speech. RIP Vin Scully
Back to watch this again , on this sad day . Thank you Kevin ! Vin , we will miss you ❤️😢
He was the voice of the Dodgers.Thank you Vin.Tony
RIP TO A LEGENDARY MAN! THANK YOU SIR FOR THE MEMORIES! ❤️ 😔 ⚾️
Greatest speech Ever delivered
I have to agree I never got the chance to listen to all the beautiful games this man would announce I feel so shortened by that fact, you was so lucky to have all those memories
I saw this again on the day his death was announced. As a native Angeleno born of native Angelenos, born just before the Dodgers moved here, I grew up as a Dodgers fan. In no small part that was due to Vin Scully, whose voice means baseball and summer to me. God's Grace to you Vin, and my prayers, on your being called to His Presence. Perhaps there is baseball in heaven. Thanks for everything.
Damn, what a speech.
I'm typing with tears in my eyes as a 66 year old man. My brother and I have had the privilege of saying hello to Mr. Scully several times at home games at his broadcasting booth. Every time he acted like he remembered us and had the grace to say he was happy to see us again. This happened to him countless times in countless games by many other fans. I don't think had a single enemy on Earth. God Bless and R.I.P. Thank you for being a major part of our youth.
I've never to a 🎯 that's been so loved by so many. You were so lucky
Vin Scully's voice reminds me of my now deceased father. We would listen to Dodger's games here in Tucson when I was a kid. His voice is magic.
I feel the same way Rick his voice reminds me of times with my father and me out on the front porch listening to Dodger games it's a beautiful thing
@@jeffcomstock3164 Did you know that Vin Scully called NFL games too? 😀
Yes it's a matter of fact she called the 49ers Cowboys game he did a white Clark caught the end zone pass I watch that with my family too they were Cowboy fans I was a Niners fan
Let me just say last time I heard this man speak so eloquently of someone with the Whitney Houston's funeral. Thank you so much Kevin for your kind words your love from your heart and baseball to go along with it we will miss him dearly
Lifetime Giants fan but I spent many a night driving and listening to a Las Vegas station and enjoying Vin call a game. I loved the stories he could tell while still describing what was happening on the field. Thanks for the memories Vin !
Since I was 8 years old all I ever heard was your voice in baseball. I loved the dodgers because of you vin. You taught me the game and I could live it with your voice. My sons got to hear you call the game with out prejudice. You will always be the voice of baseball and the dodgers. Thank you for giving me what I love so much.
I grew up in Los Angeles listening to Vin Scully for nearly my entire life, sixty years. When he retired in 2016 I soon began to realize how privileged I was to hear him call Dodger games, the others are good but Vin Scully is the da Vinci of baseball broadcasters. Listening to his radio calls was like theater of the mind, he could bring you right down onto the field as if you were there watching the game in person. Nobody comes close to his gift of making the game come alive. I recall a day game years ago he was calling on radio, it was a real bright day and players were having a lot of trouble picking up the ball on pop-ups and fly balls. Later in the game after a number of dropped and misplaced balls Vin says “balls are dropping like rice at a wedding”, come on who says that. Also, something fans may not know or realize about Vin Scully is his incredibly deep knowledge of the game. I played baseball as a young boy and followed the game closely as an adult however, I learned more about the game of baseball listening to Vin Scully than from any coach, player, book, film or any other source about the game...he is immensely knowledgeable of the macro and micro aspects of baseball. He would often refer to the "game within the game", the time when a pitcher needs to watch and keep a runner on base and from advancing while also needing to make the pitches to get the batter out. Vin Scully educated and enlightened me about baseball to a level that causes me to appreciate the game today in ways that I don't think I could had it not been for him. Thank you Vin Scully, I am forever grateful for your contribution and love of the game of baseball.
You are so right!
Beautiful tribute
No better encomium to the man, his craft, the art, and most of all the GAME.
“Is this Heaven?”
“No... ” Itʼs the booth at Dodger Stadium.
Perfect!
Eric Underwood Class of 81 Downey High school CA
This made me incredibly emotional.
I could listen to Vin Scully read the phone book.
love
I could listen to him read a phone book in Greek, of which I wouldn’t understand one word!
I’m a giants fan but so much this. He’s a class act
He could make it sound warm, and interesting and beautiful. He was the Bing Crosby of sports announcers who literally called a game ‘musically’ and beautifully.
RUclips the video of him and Dick Enberg having a conversation before Dodgers Padres game. It's truly a masterpiece!!
7:15 the push the sun up in the sky one more time comment ripped directly from the line in "For the Love of the Game" was a subtle but extremely nice touch to one of the best monologs in sports movies ever
Oh the memories. Saturday mornings with my dad, watching the Dodgers and listening to the greatest of all time. RIP Mr. Scully.
Wow, what a heartfelt speech. Captured all of my feelings about Vin!!
Thanks Kevin - that was really sweet.
and... as good looking as ever!
This hits even harder now 🙏
Holy tribute.. to a special man...in the lives of many..
I grew up in the neighborhood right over the hill of Dodger Stadium on Solano Ave in the late 60's and 70's and I remember night games walking through the neighborhood hearing Vin Scully's voice coming from radios in everybody's backyards or living rooms on those hot muggy summer LA night's. I'm 63 and Vin Scully's golden voice is one of the greatest memories that I have from my childhood. RIP Mr Scully.
I cried six years ago when I heard this’d cried a lot more today: RIP Vin and Thank you. Greatest of all time.
Vin Scully, arguably the best baseball announcer ever. A legend.
Kevin Kostner always does a Excellent Job giving speeches or storytelling. He also did it for Whitney Houston on her Funeral ceremony. VIN Scully was the Voice of Baseball. He will be Missed Very much.
He is the last of a great generation of voices who panted the picture of sports for us. Its too bad he could not push the sun back into the sky one more season.
I'm 65 years old I'm crying right now We lost a legend
What a tribute. A beautiful tribute to the most beautiful human. We've been blessed to have him...
Scully was the announcer in For Love of the Game, starring Costner.
Thank You Vin...JOB WELL DONE...God Bless You
We all love Vinny like a family member but his wife passing away from ALS before him is the real Heartbreaker.
Worse disease than cancer.
Having that kind of stress and later sadness at his age.
That's just brutal.
Brutal.
Just like that they're both gone
😥 😥
RIP to both Sandra and Vinny.
I had an aunt with ALS. And you're right, it's one of the cruelest diseases there is.
Lost my father to Cancer ♋ we MUST kill cancer ♋
How lucky and grateful we are as Angelino to have both Vince Scully and Chick Hearns as our play by play for the Dodgers and Lakers... ?
Bob Miller for the Kings
What a awesome relevant speech! We love you Vinnie! We are going to miss you for sure!
I used to listen to him on my shortwave radio in Samoa, on Voice of America. He made the game come alive. Didn’t need a TV.
Many a summers day and night I listened to Vin call Dodgers play….
This was terrifically eloquent! Fitting!
The best thing about the Dodgers. I remember during the Series and Playoffs, we'd watch the network video on TV, turn the volume off, and turn the radio volume up. That's what Vin was
RIP Vin there is a Field of Dreams game waiting for you in heaven now and all the great baseball voices of the past have come to salute you as you step in the booth to call your first game in heaven. And all the other great baseball voices of the past Red barber Mel Allen Bob Elson Waite Hoyt Dizzy Dean they all salute you as you get to call your first game your voice will be missed here on earth and the game will not sound the same without you
Great speech KCostner, I loved Vin Scully the announcer and the man.
I can remember the first time I heard Vin Scully's voice it was 3/31/98 and it was on TV but not in the way you might think it was in a video game didn't think much of it other than nice voice (his video game commentary was very basic until his last appearance in 05 it became a little more in-depth) and I said to myself I got to hear this guy more so I ordered the MLB extra innings package and from the first live broadcast I heard I was hooked and every year since I've ordered either MLB.tv or MLB extra innings his descriptive ability is one-of-a-kind (as a legally blind man I felt like I was in the seats at dodger Stadium) i've lost count of how many nights in the last 10 years or so I could put a Dodgers game on my computer turn the monitor off and still feel like I was watching every second of it here in Massachusetts he has made for a lot of late nights for me but I wouldn't have it any other way it is very sad that he's retiring but I wish him nothing but the best
Michael Smith that's awesome Michael smith, I can't remember the first time I heard Vin as a native Southern Californian but I can you he was the sound track of all 30 summers I've spent on this earth
Michael Smith Thank you. I wish you could have listened Chick Hearn also.
67 years...in itself,it is a great deed but with class, talent and...passion makes him unique, oceans of time to remember and unforgettable !!!
Thank you, God for granting us, the privilege of being the generation that got to hear the great baseball announcers that can never be repeated. Thank you Vin Scully, Harry Caray, Mel Allen, Red Barber, Jack Buck, Bob Prince and others whose names I have forgotten, for lending your talents for our enjoyment.
Vin, you won't be forgotten. Such talent cannot be replaced by mere mortals.
For so many of us he will always be family...
Vin Scully, was Dodger blue, and multi sportscaster. He was first and foremost the voice of "The Dodgers", no one can ever replace him or his voice.
Rip to a legend Vin Scully Rest easy Vin😢💔
Kevin , Love the way you captured and personified the very essence of what Vin was all about. Such a great moment . Love you Vin!
what a wonderful tribute, a voice I will always know
The Dodger will win the World Series this year - Just for Vin. Go Dodgers!
Great comments about a great man.
Vin thank you for all the great memories.. Your a class act!! We all love you!!
He's Continuing in Heaven!!
He Got His True Life Gig!!
We. Love. You. Vin!!
Always!!
💛💛
2 class acts
He passed but left us all who heard him some great memories 😪 Every fan of every team would listen cause you went beyond just calling games for one team. You called baseball for every fan base to admire. They're will never be another who did it so perfect. R. I. P may you call the babes 500th heavenly homer
I remember being at dodger stadium watching the game. I would go to the bathroom just to hear his voice.
Thanks for great journey Vinny. Since 1958 when I was 9 you took me though my childhood, teen years, Army years, young adult year to me middle age years to my now senior years. With u I could go back home
Kevin Costner Got A Heart Of Gold
Kostner should get a grammy for speech, he is gifted with a gifted voice.
❤️❤️💜💜💜🧡🧡🧡🧡💙💙💙💙🖤🖤🖤🖤💘
He is one of a kind also nicest man you will ever meet
@@danielupsdell2697 I believe it
@@danielupsdell2697 Yes he is. I met him years ago shortly after he made Dances With Wolves in a restaurant in Pasadena, just sitting at the bar with his wife. I got introduced and he couldn’t have been nicer.
Sic years and more....and I still cry for this entire speech. The only celebrity I've ever cried for or ever will. The voice of all my summers since I was a little boy. I grew up, times changed, people came and went out of my life, children born, love ones lost. And Vin was always there. A constant, something true and genuine. I miss him.
We are losing these great men too frequently now. My own father will be 93 in a couple of weeks and I wonder who will step up for the love of the game? Who will be honored by the youth of today, having given them a positive escape from the insanity of the world today? Rest in peace Vin Skully.
Well done Kevvy!!❤️
Ok I’ve just dissolved into a pool of tears. How glad I am that he was there to hear this beautiful tribute. Kevin Costner….. wow!
yes, he had such a unique voice and really made baseball fun to listen to.
This is the only time I saw Mr Scully not turn bright red with embarrassment when given a complement. So humble so great
Wow how we get older life takes away from us more than giving I grew up in Texas and moved to California for twenty plus years before coming back but you Vin Scully made me a dodger fan
Great speech. He is a class act.
RIP to the greatest of all the greats.
You are the most beautiful person that has ever existed. You have the most beautiful soul that I have ever known.,❤️🌹🎶🙌🙌🙌
You called my name in my imaginary game ...as I stood for a moment and knocked the clay from my cleats...
Eric Underwood Class of 81 Downey High school CA...
Of course it was two out bases loaded and down by 3.
Batter up! God bless you Vin Scully...
You knocked it out of the park!
Vaya Con Dios
Rest Easy Vin Scully! another legend gone 😢
Remember those infamous words.."It's time for Dodger baseball"😢❤
Could there have been any better person than Kevin Costner to speak at Vin Scullys retirement? I think not 😔
Bless you Vinny. My whole life has been a privilege and an honor to hear the most prolific voice of Baseball Ever. Bye and Never Ever to be Forgotten. Played Ball !!!!
8:54 That look from her. Woah!
I could listen to Vin Scully or Kevin Costner read anything all day long!

RIP Vin and Go Blue..
THE BEST THAT EVER WAS !!! Period……
Probably the best dialog Costner has has delivered, film included.!
This video takes on a whole new meaning now that we have lost Vin. R.I.P. Vin Scully & outstanding tribute reading Kevin!
How many nights I fell asleep to the incredible sounds of the voice of the incomparable Vince Scully rolling over my transistor radio as he described stuff that was so mundane...and yet so exhilarating.
One of the greats. He and Keith Jackson.
