Jules, you are a true gem of RUclips. We don't care where you are, you are a wonderful presenter, gamer, human. Thank you for years of great videos - looking forward to many more!
I have ALWAYS enjoyed Jules, he was easily one of my favorite people on what culture from its earliest days. I miss his takes on wrestling and movies as well.
The Thing technically has multiple canon versions... because the comics were also canon, in which we saw the two rescued and going on to have world spanning stories about other Things attacking
Fun note: According to Ian Flynn, head writer for Archie and IDW Sonic comics, Sega of Japan does not consider Bark the Polar Bear a villain. "He's not bad, he just hangs around with bad people."
You guys forgot Jax from Mortal Kombat where his metal arms weren't prosthetic implants, but were external, like the Iron Man suit but just arms. In MK9, they retconned the story so that they were prosthetics, and his did lose his arms. At least they gave the metal gauntlets to his daughter.
You didn't pay attention to SF6. Blanka says he smashed plants and flowers together and painted his skin to protect himself from bugs. He also says he stepped on a big electric eel that sent enough shock to knock out a horse. But he took it like a champ and stomped it out.
The intro to Mortal Kombat 9 is a full retcon for the series before the story even starts. At the end of Armageddon, Taven is the one that wins the prize. Raiden and Shao Kahn don't get close to the summit of the pyramid, yet in the MK9 intro they are at the top. Raiden also sends a message back in time using his amulet, except, Raiden didn't have an amulet in the original timeline. Where did it come from? The thing is MK11 gave us an answer. The intro to MK9 takes place on yet another timeline after Kronika changed history. The game also has a section where Raiden realizes he has been stuck in a cycle where different versions of himself kill Liu Kang. That also didn't happen on the original timeline. MK9 is set on a timeline that has been reset over and over again by Kronika.
Finally someone mentions the ending of the AWESOME game that is The Thing The Videogame. I have it. But I disagree he's a thing. He's just too badass to just die like that
I remember when Nintendo put up a statement that made sound like Mario and Luigi aren't plumbers anymore personally I don't know why they don't use it as a game mechanic the mushroom kingdom is full of pipes why don't they use their tools to repair pipes or redirect water, oil or something.
Haa! 16:08 This is how Cleveland sounded during the love making with Loretta on Family Guy back in the day. "When's it gonna be My turn? Ow, ow, ow, ow" 😆👍
Bark and bean's wanted posters are in Sonic Mania, not Sonic Generations. Also, Bean is a duck, not a woodpecker. He is based off of a previous Sega game called dynamite ducks.
i mean, i feel you dont have to explain why blanka shoots lightning. Chalk it up to chi or psycho power or spirit power or magic or muscle power, and so on for forever
Pokémon Colosseum and Japanese DP into international DP onwards. In the Japanese DP, one of the Canalave library myths mentions that there was a time when humans and Pokémon were one, and would marry. This matched up with humans turning into Pokémon (see Kadabra, Phantump, Yamask…), as well as the one granny in the Orre region that had a Mightyena boyfriend. This got retconned in the international DP, where they merely lived in harmony and ate at the same table. And then, Legends Arceus retconned again to make humans terrified of Pokémon, in an era before the Canalave city formed. Weirdly enough, another Canalave library myth was proven true. When humans ate or killed a Pokémon, preserve the bones and get rid of them, so that the bones can revive in time. This got proven in Pokémon SV, with the Loyal Three rising from their shrine-grave.
Sonic Generations is the most accurate retelling of a series history. The 1st 4-5 levels based on the Genesis games were fast and fun, the rest of the game felt like a slog. It felt intentional.
About the Mario thing: We need to remember that, the canon between Japan and the rest of the world is different and that moment of "Mario is from the mushroom kingdom" was the canon from Japan. Now, I guess, they are actually discovering the American created canon and realizing that it was pretty good and adding it back. So, yeah.
I actually was able to "play" Secrets of the Empire at Disney Springs in Orlando, FL... I think in 2019, right before the pandemic hit. It was put on by a company called The Void VR. It was one of the coolest experiences I have ever had. You truly did feel like you were on Mustafar- the way they were able to engage all your senses at once was something I'll never forget- they pumped in the smell of smoke and sulphur, you felt blasts of heat on your skin, you could look at the world in 360 degrees... You had "blasters" that you used to shoot enemy Stormtroopers with, ducking and diving like a paintball match...It was awesome! I wish it was still operational.
The Thing retcon is a bit confusing because A - I think there was an official comic that confirmed McCreedy was human and B - if he got access to a helicopter, he ALREADY probably got back to humanity, which makes him using a ruse to reintegrate kinda pointless.
Not to be “that guy” but, I got to play Star Wars Secrets of the Empire (twice) at Disney Springs years ago and I have to say IT WAS AMAZEBALLS!! I was so upset when they discontinued it because I wanted to show it to everyone I knew. I hope they bring it back someday, or at least release it to the meta quest
But Jules! Did Mario Maker imply that they were born in Brooklyn, or if they were simply entering the Mushroom Kingdom for the first time in their recollection? Born in Mushroom Kingdom and *then* raised by a plumber... who could've found them in the pipes!
I feel like Sonic Generations should've been Sonic Frontiers. It was the first game that made me feel bad for Eggman. But at the same time, mentions that he had based Sage's avatar on someone dear to him. .....It never answers WHO? Did Eggman HAVE A KID!?!?? Who was the mom??? What happened to the girl?? Was it a niece/cousin? Cause we know he had felt jealousy over his cousin Maria. WHO WAS SAGE'S AVATAR????
Super Mario Bros. aren't officially from Brooklyn. Nintendo made it like that in the movie, but Mario's cast are like actors in a play. So there is no canon about their origin.
The thing that bothered me about Samurai Jack's ending was that until the last episode or two it felt like Jack and Ashi's relationship was parental so the romance felt like of icky. I mean I like the character so I'm happy that she's back but that's back but that's not the part that needs a retcon.
If we are talking about recons heavy hitters without searching for an easter egg is 'Mortal Kombat' and 'Rachet & Clank.' I'm sure there are more titles those were only two that came to mind.
Wait, Blanka was the problem character in Street Fighter 2? I thought that title went to Dhalsim for being able to punch the entire way across the screen.
To be fair, Archie comics changed the alingnments and personalities of a lot of the characters. Also Bean's a Duck. The name "Bean the Dynamite" is reference to Dynamite Duck.
I wouldn't have minded the old Samurai Jack ending if it hadn't nonsensically waited for their wedding for her to vanish. That was so contrived and manipulative it pulled me out of it. Never played the game.
What actually upsets me about the Thing prequel being crappy, is the fact that it DIDN'T HAVE TO BE. they literally did so well with everything else and then drew over the practical effects with crappy cgi! Beyond annoying.
New Morpheus never was Morpheus. He was programmed by Neo from his memories of Morpheus. No soul, no residual memories of OG Morf, just recordings of Morpheus beyond what Mr. Anderson programmed it to be. Lastly, since I'm in a whingey mood; Resurrections was Matrix *_5._* People forget the Animatrix way too often. While I will agree that the first three live action films form the original trilogy, there were *FOUR* Matrix films before Resurrections. Rant over. Good to see your humour again Jules!
Truth is the entity you meet when you perform Human Transmutation for the first time, everyone knows that! Did you skip out on FMA:B? And you call yourself a proper nerd?
So, and spoilers here for an older anime, Samurai Jack ended the same way Gurren Lagan did, only instead of positive character growth, they retconed in a "Happy Ending"? Not only that, but it was also done in a tie in video game you had to pay for to see? This smells of executive BS to me.
They tied Star-Wars canon to a ride? This is why nobody cares about Star-Wars anymore. Every single insignificant thing has to be tied to the extended universe. Why is the Emperors speech in Fortnite canon?! It makes no sense!
I feel like the Blanka thing was canon for a long time know... Am I wrong? Even Death Battle mentioned it was dyed from plants when he was losnt in the jungle as a kid and had to camouflage himself.
Jules, you are a true gem of RUclips. We don't care where you are, you are a wonderful presenter, gamer, human. Thank you for years of great videos - looking forward to many more!
The only whatculture employee I truly enjoy. Nothing against the rest but this dude is just so entertaining
I have ALWAYS enjoyed Jules, he was easily one of my favorite people on what culture from its earliest days. I miss his takes on wrestling and movies as well.
I mean, Simon is still great. But I agree.
Jules and jess
Simon n Ash, also the tip top from the chip shope! But Egg Daddy is THE BEST OF ALL TIME
I really liked Ben Potter back in the day too.
The Thing technically has multiple canon versions... because the comics were also canon, in which we saw the two rescued and going on to have world spanning stories about other Things attacking

In the words of the Assassin Brotherhood, "Nothing is true, everything is permitted."
As an American I actually never heard that plane origin for Blanka, I always thought the eels had been canon the whole time
Always has been. Don't know where Jules is pulling that bs from.
Finally someone mentions the ending of the AWESOME game that is The Thing The Videogame. I have it. But I disagree he's a thing. He's just too badass to just die like that
This episode is a presenter - editor relationship masterclass
Jules always gets a thumbs up for being so smart, his brain pushed out his hair.
Loved the video mate. The new channel is really great you guys are doing a great job 👍🏻👍🏻
It's nice to have a Jules video on my 30th birthday. So I am a geezer now
10:27 I like how Tommy keep saying no
I remember when Nintendo put up a statement that made sound like Mario and Luigi aren't plumbers anymore personally I don't know why they don't use it as a game mechanic the mushroom kingdom is full of pipes why don't they use their tools to repair pipes or redirect water, oil or something.

Whoa!! Fancy finding you here! I'll sub now... I don't even think I watch WhatCulture anymore, only TrekCulture.
You deserve more views, likes and subscribers. Great charisma, content and energy.
That Star Wars bit is pure Jules gold(just like everything he does😉)
Sonic Generations is the most accurate retelling of a series history. The 1st 4-5 levels based on the Genesis games were fast and fun, the rest of the game felt like a slog. It felt intentional.

I’ve got my whole hood watching and talking about Jewels, some don’t even game nearly as much as I do but still just enjoy his content 👍🏾
is it weird that ive grown a custom to going to sleep to your voice?😂 much love from new zealand. keep up the good work.❤❤

great video and love jules but that font color choice with the shadow was definitely rough to make out
Personally, I loved the original ending of Samurai Jack. It's tragic, but it has a great meaning that I think many people miss.
Here you are Jules! Glad the algo finally showed me your new channel. Subbed
So there is a comic of The Thing from the early 90s where McCready is indeed assimilated but retains his memories and fights for humans.
First time here. I'm interesting to see your new stuff Jules!
I really wish there was a way to do that Star Wars VR thing. Got to do it back in 2017 and would easily go back.
"I'm in studio that smells like it looks."
So it smells like lilac and honey? And also the Samurai Jack tv series pulled a Guren Lagan.
Developers tell me "it's not a bug, it's a feature."
I refuse to believe that is the TRUTH!
The Thing retcon is a bit confusing because A - I think there was an official comic that confirmed McCreedy was human and B - if he got access to a helicopter, he ALREADY probably got back to humanity, which makes him using a ruse to reintegrate kinda pointless.
Jules and Simon from Casual Criminal need to link up…😂they are basically twins
Love you Jules keep up the good work I love the Deep cuts
Not to be “that guy” but, I got to play Star Wars Secrets of the Empire (twice) at Disney Springs years ago and I have to say IT WAS AMAZEBALLS!! 1:18 Blue? How does something smell blue?
But Jules! Did Mario Maker imply that they were born in Brooklyn, or if they were simply entering the Mushroom Kingdom for the first time in their recollection? Born in Mushroom Kingdom and *then* raised by a plumber... who could've found them in the pipes!
Last we heard of Bark and Bean was Sonic Generations? Sonic Mania?
Jules keep it up, im a major fan. The only reason im here honestly
Alas, not the end of Bang and Bark. They turn up in Sonic Mania as copies made by one of the bosses alongside Fang/Nack. Still villains sadly.
Didn't the Super Mario Bros movie change the story even further? 🤔

I thought in the next game it was said Mario and Luigi was delivered to the wrong house?
rootin for y’all & this channel, i love this shit🌚
If we are talking about recons heavy hitters without searching for an easter egg is 'Mortal Kombat' and 'Rachet & Clank.' I'm sure there are more titles those were only two that came to mind.
Good lord I love Jules
I don't know if they're from the same place but Jules sounds a lot like Andrew from Cultaholic
Wait, Blanka was the problem character in Street Fighter 2? I thought that title went to Dhalsim for being able to punch the entire way across the screen.
The opposite of them both killing each other would both giving life to each other.
I love how they put 'anime'. What are you implying, Editor Tommy?
To be fair, Archie comics changed the alingnments and personalities of a lot of the characters.
Also Bean's a Duck. The name "Bean the Dynamite" is reference to Dynamite Duck.
I loved Sonic Fighters at Chuckee Cheese back in the day.
Finn balor is a really good youtuber. Good to know!
so what did the star wars one actually retcon? that loot boxes are actually a real thing in-universe?
First, you cut a hole in the box...
You're my favorite👍
Neat list idea
Eels Up Inside Ya! Findin' An Entrance Where They Can!
Why is no-one talking about the other Blanka origin story, as told by Street Fighter: The Movie…?
I wouldn't have minded the old Samurai Jack ending if it hadn't nonsensically waited for their wedding for her to vanish. That was so contrived and manipulative it pulled me out of it. Never played the game.
Electric eels, so he's Jamie Foxx's Electro then?
Thought we might see Jeremy with all the swearing
What actually upsets me about the Thing prequel being crappy, is the fact that it DIDN'T HAVE TO BE. they literally did so well with everything else and then drew over the practical effects with crappy cgi! Beyond annoying.

So you're saying Samurai Jack's original ending was the same as Gurren Lagann's ending.
Truth is a prophet in halo
Truth is the voice of the covenant
Youcan never trust a David S. Goier
?!!? Wait you left. Oh well lemme sub
Truth is the entity you meet when you perform Human Transmutation for the first time, everyone knows that! Did you skip out on FMA:B? And you call yourself a proper nerd?
Who are you calling geezer GEEEEEZER!!! 😂
Hiya julie!
The Thing game was tough as 3 week old turds. Anxiety inducing at times.
So, and spoilers here for an older anime, Samurai Jack ended the same way Gurren Lagan did, only instead of positive character growth, they retconed in a "Happy Ending"? Not only that, but it was also done in a tie in video game you had to pay for to see? This smells of executive BS to me.
Wait Mario was always American. I thought they were Italians and it was just Hollywood being Hollywood that made them Americans
Thanks for spoiling the Ending Jules☹️!!
I played the release of sonic fighters on PS3 and it was fun for what it was. Better than the awful sonic games we get now
Listen up, you gorgeous angel: thank you 🙏
They tied Star-Wars canon to a ride? This is why nobody cares about Star-Wars anymore. Every single insignificant thing has to be tied to the extended universe. Why is the Emperors speech in Fortnite canon?! It makes no sense!
Gane Bits ruins samuraj jack...because point of ending is no happy ending for you...But it never was point
Saddest apartment ever. How long have you been on what culture? Were is the RUclips as a career money? 😂
Truth is written by the winners.
Not watched yet, but isn't making something the new truth to a lore just what retconning is?
Did he leave watch culture?
I feel like the Blanka thing was canon for a long time know... Am I wrong? Even Death Battle mentioned it was dyed from plants when he was losnt in the jungle as a kid and had to camouflage himself.
I prefer the street fighter movie backstory where Charlie (alpha series) was mutated into a super soldier. Capcom then said "@@@@ you"
i wonder if jules will come here if he ends up dipping out of whatculture?
In SF6 Blanka definitely says he played with eels n got shocked so bad he gained the powers, he never states the bugs gave him that ability🥲
