  • Marie Noëlle Farcy is a curator in Mudam contemporary art museum in Luxembourg. She had effect on Mudam purchased an important work from american artist Tourmaline.
Tourmaline is an artist, writer and transgender activist working mainly with video and photography to create elaborately staged scenes that honour living and historical figures of LGBTQI+ movements and queer culture.
First we discussed why a museum in Luxembourg is showing american trans artist. Marie-Noelle explained that for them it is very important to expend the exhibited artists backgrounds, highlight the different backgrounds. Because Tourmaline in her works connect a lot to New York, I also asked what is the importance of a certain place in an artist work and how can we show to the visitors all the different stories what was important to the artist as well. We shortly discussed about Seneca village, a community in the today Central park and other important places in Tourmaline's life.
We are also discussed the collection of Mudam. Marie-Noelle explained that even if the core collection is concentrating to Luxembourg and Europe, but it has to reflect on other places in the world and definetely have to include more women artists, and also widen in the genre of an artwork, not only painting, photo, sculpture, but also design, fashion, film, installation etc..
