October Cottage Garden Tour - Trees, Bulb Planting & Clearing Summer Plants
HTML-код

- It's time for a long overdue cottage garden tour. Now that we are in Autumn it's time to tidy away the summer plants in the polytunnel, and to get those Spring bulbs in the ground. Here is a look at my bulb planting process, and a walk around the garden. Things are a bit messy and honest this time around. Thanks for watching!

The trees through the shed still look absolutely lovely despite the hair cut. ❤❤❤
I’ve never bothered with the garden in autumn/winter I leave it all for tue bugs and wildlife to enjoy and come spring when the perennials and shrubs start to show new growth I cut back accordingly. Autumn is always about enjoying the leaf colours and a good chance to repair fences sheds greenhouses pathways etc.
That’s a nice way to look at it 😊
Im always surprised when people say they dont like autumn, as thats always been my own favourite season! Autumn is the coziest time of yeah! It brings cooler weather (yey, no more sweaty, humid, gross UK summer, lol), lit fireplaces and candles, cozy knitted hats and sweaters, lots of tea and hearty autumn foods, beautiful foliage colours, dark cozy evenings, and lots of free mulch once those leafs fall. :)
I love all seasons on my flower bed under the window. Thank you for sharing. this year I did not add much as my border is mostly full. But there are a few plants I want to add to it - brunneras, some dark sedum maybe a few more bulbs.
Do not panic so much. You are a good gardener
Before I became a gardener fall was my favorite season, now it's taken me years to find beauty in the "mess" of fall. I tell myself fallen leaves are confetti and this time is something to celebrate. ❤ Sending peace to you in your garden.
🙌🙌🙌🙌
Definitely worth thinking about
I’m a gardener too, are you one for cutting back come autumn or prefer to leave perennials to die back and over winter and attack what’s left in spring? I’ve found a lot of my clients want a major clean up but I’ve managed over the years to convince them that leaving some areas to die back naturally will be good for wildlife and will do the soil some good. Regarding leaves I spend a lot of time leaf blowing and have even mowed over them to either create leaf mould or mulched around large shrubs. What a great job we have though 😊
Yes! Thank you!. I live in Massachusetts, where most people are ecstatic for autumn. I get overwhelmed and much prefer spring.
If you guys can rent or borrow goats in your area, I highly recommend! They’ll eat all the ivy and other any other brush. Pigs are the same but more destructive. I’m a first time viewer and love your garden ☘️
Thanks so much that’s an incredible tip! I will see if we can find one nearby 😊
I always enjoy a garden walk, thanks for sharing.
Thank you so much 😊
Autumn is my favourite season so many beautiful colours ❤️
That’s lovely ❤️🍁
The garden is beautiful every time you show it even when it’s “messy”. ❤
And I like atumn. Each season is differant and great. Look, how interesing looks Your garden now:yellows, browns, greens are together so quiet and peaceful. Brilliant. Greetings.
I so love your videos! Beautiful, peaceful and comforting!
Thank you that’s so kind 😊
Great impressive footage stunning the beautiful scenery as awesome flowers blooms, thanks for sharing this wonderful relaxing garden, stay safe always.
Do you enjoy watching birds? I love the little winter birds that come in. I have several feeders outside my kitchen window. The LBBs (little brown birds - sparrows, finches and juncos) are my favorites, but i also have cardinals, titmice and wrens with occasional doves and jays.
Autumn & Spring are magical & your garden shows that.
Wow you garden is huge !! I sometimes feel overwhlemed by the work in the garden. I planted some of my first crocus safran, lys and snow drops. I am aldo a huge fan a solar lamps in the trees especially when it's already night time at 5 pm.
Autumn has been my favourite season my whole life, but not anymore, I feel a little unsettles and weary this time as we have a ton of exterior reppair to our cottage with leaks and bad windows and chimney being cracked and tiles missing oh its a hand full, but the garden has been keeping me with one foot in front of the other and soothes the nerves. Since first seeing your crocus lawn I have started to enjoy spring, I never did before in fact spring was my worst season but now I have my own sea of crocus and daffodils, I never knew how magical it could be to garden.
This makes me feel emotional, totally relate to those feelings. Best of luck with your cottage repairs. We have been trying to fix a leaky roof here too and worrying it’s a bigger job than we anticipated. Really glad you find comfort in spring now ❤
Oh, thank you, the roof is a scary task, not exactly a DIY kind of project, and so costly too, I found myself up there amongst the tiles repairing the 'under' roof made from wood shavings that must be 200 years old, I do not recommend that@@monalogue I so hope yours wont be extensive and that you can breathe out come bad weather. Old homes are full of surprises . You wont even imagine what our cottage looked like last year, had it been anyone else but us I swear they would have asked for a bulldozer to come and nock it all down. Slowly slowly.
How lovely this is. Where we live we have already had snow for about a week
my first autumn with a garden and I am so overwhelemd , and this is so soothing
I am feeling a bit overwhelmed as well as there is so much work to accomplish and clean up, then there are the bulbs to plant! The frustration is that I fractured and tore the ligament off my pinky on my right hand and have to be in a splint for 10 weeks. 😢. I realize I have to take things slow but yes, I’m feeling overwhelmed and frustrated. Trying to be positive.
Ohh I’m so sorry to hear that! It must be really frustrating when you want to garden but have to rest your hand while it heals.
This year has been hard to keep up with maintenence because it rained every single weekend! Now it has gotten out of hand a bit and piled up for the fall 😅
That is so true! Been a very strange year weather wise
I think I saw you in “ the Gardenener’s world”.
Was that you? I don’t remember the season right now but I LOVED the story…
Nice seeing you here.
The ducks are so cute. Everything is looking good, look forward to seeing all the bulbs come up.
I felt a bit panicked when I saw the low overnight temperatures forecast for this weekend. I have lots of butternut squash that are not ripe enough to harvest. Other than that, I had been grateful for the warm, dry early October to get lots of tidying and bulb planting done on my plot.
I feel like you, there is so much to do in the garden at this time of the year. I'm trying to grow some camelias as well. When they're small they're not so expensive. Michaelmas daisies are very nice in autumn. The bees 🐝 and butterflies love them and they add some color to the garden.
What a lovely cottage garden 🙏🌱
19,000 views wow -well deserved
Lovely!!! thank you
What a beautiful thanks for sharing
Glad I’m not the only one who has so much tidying to do in the garden this autumn 😅 loved hearing all your future plans! ❤
Brava, saluti dall’Italia!
Great space you guys have.
I collect my ivy for washing my laundry 🧺 amazing stuff.
Love your garden tours! 😍 brought a bunch of bulbs for my garden, I can't wait for next spring
That’s exciting! Happy bulb planting 😊 and thank you so much
I always feel a bit low-spirited in the garden when the weather changes from summer to autumn 🍂😖 the summer plants slowly dying and the garden looks terrible but it’s not the time to plant winter veggies yet so I’m just waiting 😅 but finally ( for where I live) it’s time to plant winter veggies so I can end my 1 and a half month of waiting and start planting seedlings
Really relate to those feelings. Glad you can get those winter vegetables planted now! It’s so good to have something growing to carry you through winter ❤
Oh I just love your beautiful garden and interesting vlogs. I could watch them all day long! I was inspired to plant lots of bulbs after watching you. Autumn is not my favourite time of year, I too prefer winter but with a view to looking forward to the spring, the warmth and the garden coming alive again. It's such a joy to see the ducks pootling about. I'm looking forward to the next vlog. Take care 😊🦆xx
Thank you for this lovely comment ❤ very much share your experience of the seasons xx
Beautiful garden
so fabulous, thank you for the beautiful autumnal inspirations🍂🥀🤎
Thank you for your support 🥰
Love your duckies ❤
Looks so beautiful. Thanks for sharing.
Life happy to like to visit to UK .
You are amazing 😍
Love your videos! I suspect the crocus coming out is Orange Monarch, as the Saffron one typically emerge as purple.
Thank you so much 😊 that’s interesting! I wonder if they sent me the wrong bulbs!
I love your duck! 🦆 😂
Really enjoy this site, the misty autumns and your garden are delightful.🍂🍄🍁
Thank you so much 🥰
wow i love your garden ! ❤and your duck 😊😊😊😊
Thank you 😊🦆
But... is that tree growing up through the roof of the shed? 🍁
Thank-you for this channel! 🍁 Autumn Blessings! 🍁
Amazing
You are so inspiring. Thank you for sharing your journey. Cool pants what are they?
Thanks so much 😊 they are from revolution race
May I know your gears of video recording?
The video looks stunning and beautiful. 😮
I love it
hi!! what brand shoes and pants do you wear for gardening?
Hello 😊 the shoes are just cheap clogs from eBay (I had some amazing ones from Hunter which were so comfy but the dogs ate them!). Trousers are from revolution race 😊
We have ivy that is such a massive problem! I think such a big problem that I may need ot use stump killer on it (I have never used weed killer in 3 years of gardening). It is eating up our fence and creeping into the beds through 5-6 ivy's in my tiny garden :/
Getting frustrated with gardening season , schedules etc. Is really a relative thing. Im gardening in Canada , zone 2 and my season is early to mid. June until mid to later Sept. Right now I'm in mid winter impatiently waiting for planting which is still 4 months away.
What do you mean by that honey fungus ? Something never heard of it
Love these plans!! Also, hopefully this isn't weird, but I LOVE those trousers! Where did you get them??
I've never liked autumn: summer ends, it gets cold and everything dies. Plus that means snow is coming. I much more have peace when it comes to winter because that means spring and the days are getting lighter again!
I am so with you on that! 😊
Lovely video
It might be a good idea to cut the oak branches flush with the tree trunk, otherwise disease will enter and cause problems later on. Plus it makes the cuts more attractive. Love your garden
Cut back to the branch collar 👍🏻
Where do you get your bulbs from? :)
Parker’s wholesale or farmer Gracy 😊
0:49 And thousands of subterrainian bulbs, patiently waiting for springtime to come! 0:55 I also do not like autumn. The only thing good that can be said about it is that it is a fruitful time of year. 1:08 Yes, with my 50 foot wide, by 300 foot long vegetable garden as densely planted as possible and my cottage flower garden, summer garned activity is like afire hose opened full blast, a torrent of things to keep up with all demanding attention at the same sime, and I can hundreds of quarts of vegetables and fruit per year. Impossible to keep up with everything.
2:00 Yes, here in Ohio, February and March are the months that ice storms occur causing branches to come crashing down and electric to go off for a week at a time.
10:50 , yes, today 6 tulip bulbs arrived that I paid $80 US dollars for because they are near impossible to find to buy. One variety is named Insulinde, the other is named The Lizard. They are both Victorian era tulips. I want basically 4 classes of tulips, I want old Victorians and parrots and what I call "Easter Egg" tulips which is a blend of Purple Prince, Candy Prince and Yellow Prince and they have the Easter Egg colors and shape and they do bloom at Easter time.
That’s fascinating about your tulips! Would love to see those. Best of luck with growing them 😊

I hope the tree is ok. Your shed is gorgeous and looks so magical with the tree growing through it
Thank you so much! Fingers crossed for the tree, Aaron’s friend who helped trim it said they are stubborn things and it should be fine 🤞🏻
❤❤❤
I am noticing the rambling rector is hanging off the plum tree a bit too much. It needs to be tied up to the tree a bit.
With such a lovely, but small garden could you not pick the caterpillars of the box shrubs? Have your tried Neem oil?
I know it will be a bit of a project, but perhaps your husband could help you create some simple chicken wire baskets to plant your Jerusalem artichokes in to keep the badgers from eating them.
Hope you are well. Noticed the bandage on your arm....
Thank you so much. Well spotted with the rose - I just moved it there and haven’t tied it in yet.
We have biological control for the box and although it works I don’t really like the idea of having to use it long term, I prefer if things will be able to survive without me bringing something in.
Great idea with the chicken wire! Thank you

I'm hoping that opening up the canopy with your tree trimming will give the R.Rector more light so it really takes off in the spring and I hope you get some blooms.
Apple harvest time is here, and I'm wondering what you do with all your apples. I don't know if you like apple butter or not, but I don't peel my apples. I just put my slices in a blender and then strain the juice through a cheese cloth and use the juice for making jelly or cider. All the pulp I put on the stove with a stick of butter, brown sugar, and spices on the lowest heat and give a stir every once in a while as it cooks for hours till it's nice and thick, then place in jars. It also freezes well.

👍👌
You my serenity,my fortune.shamim zahuri from bangladesh💙🦅👏🤝💘🎯🤰🤱
Messy gardens are the best! Why don’t you get some bees? Your garden is perfect for them, and their dying out! 😢
Seus vídeos são tem belas imagens, porém... fala mais do que palestrantes
Genuine q, is gardening a privilege for the wealthy?
Remove those trees!
What makes you suggest that?
Hello I just subscribed your channel :))) Nice place. My Autum Garden is in full bloom and we're excited to share it with you as we take you on a virtual tour of flower garden! @angelgardenvlog
