I aged out of the foster care system and bounced around between 8 foster homes, including many that were very religious and abusive. One foster home I lasted two weeks the foster dad was a pastor. The problem with this movie is believing that faith is enough to deal with trauma and that expectation that religious is what these kids need. The religious foster parents I had were not equipped to deal with me and thus I was moved and faced further trauma. It also resulted in me attending 5 high schools. If anyone sees this movie and wants to foster or foster-to-adopt, please do research and understand trauma informed care. Also understand that foster care brings together people from very different backgrounds with different POVs and beliefs. If you cannot be accepting of someone different than you - including LGBTQ youth - then don't foster. Foster care and adoption isn't about imposing your views on children.
