    This almost brings me to tears. Not because of the playing which is first-rate. It makes me sad that in the USA the arts are being discouraged and underfunded, We are embarrassingly backward. These young people there, as witnessed in this video having had the good fortune of growing up in the Netherlands, flourish and are encouraged to achieve. I am an organ builder and I am frustrated with the mentality of our culture. I guess i fly to the refuge of these videos for hope. Jos, Harm, Gert and many others are a joy to see and hear. It almost makes me feel that I know them and would enjoy to meet them someday.

      The Dutch seem to have superb schools. I believe all children learn Dutch and English languages, and a third language. Also a majority seem to learn a musical instrument.

      @@kitstr You are too positive about the musical education in the Netherlands. It is true that most pupils learn English (beside their 'mother language' Dutch). But very few learn a musical instrument and the number of pupils that learn to play the organ is very low. But... it is true that there are some very good young organists in the Netherlands and we have very much fantastic organs (large, but also small gems) in a small country. And the organ of the Martinikerk in Groningen is one of the most beautiful examples! Especially for baroque music.

    Harm: something keeps bringing me back to this recording and I’ve listened to it many times, looked up the music to follow and keep coming back. I have also followed Jos as an accomplished organist too. What to say, other than thank you for posting!

    Stunning stuff, the stop lad and page turner to the organist's right side really enters into the sprit of the piece and is in awe of the master at the keyboard.

      That 'stop lad' is a very good organist in his own right with his own YT channel. Such is the culture and training in NL that the youth are encouraged to play the organ

    A delightful Bach piece, Harm, played to perfection! Both sonically and visually it's a video worth returning to again and again. And it's made all the more enjoyable by including the role of your two assistants--especially in the final moments. Thanks for not editing those moments out!

    Really like the stylus phantasticus execution of the prelude. That fugue always brings a smile to my face, it's so playful & dance-like. Such a joy to hear the amazing richness of this organ, including the very special 'North German' pedals. Thanks for posting - lovely!

    • @annawood5725
      @annawood5725 5 лет назад

      @@jimmartin181 It was sincerely meant - I've just finished learning this piece and although I'm lucky enough to play it on a 'historic organ', the pedals were only added 10 years ago & aren't anything like these beautiful ones nor match the rest of the quality of the organ. The Schintger organ in this recording above is simply wonderful! I hope I will get to play it or another one like it some day... I also admire the performer for daring to inject some freeness into the opening as it has its roots in the stylus phantasticus, which is one of my favourite styles in Music (I studied Music so maybe I'm allowed to 'show off'?!).

      @@annawood5725 -- Hello Anna and thanks for the message. I am not an organist but am in awe and respect of these young players...with Jos Maters and Gert von Hoef....or anyone who can play the king of instruments as these musicians do.
      Your lingo was very expressive to me.... had to look some of your terms up, but I am glad to have more insight from them. Regards, Jim.
