It means so much to see this part of the shedding process. Wish more professionals posted early stages of learning new things to encourage all levels. And amazing to hear concepts shared by the incredible Thomas Pridgen! @drumeo should promote these sessions!
Don't be afraid of it. Latin style, funk rhythm is your culture. It all comes from Africa. Keep doing amazing things. Love and Light beautiful being. ❤️🙏🏾
I love seeing the process of you learning this. A lot of people don’t enjoy the mistakes like they should and have FUN learning something as demanding as this groove. Thanks for being an example of joy in learning!!! 🤘 🤘
Sistah Gordon, Brotha Pridgen, via his Berkeley mentor/teacher and now through you, has genuinely shifted the paradigm as to what it means when we talk about FUNK!!! I mean, whoa nelly, Funk is a MUCH larger category than most musicians and music enthusiasts, alike, have probably ever considered. THE THREE OF YOU NEED TO DO A “TRIPLE THREAT” DRUMMING MASTER CLASS. Seriously!
I didn’t know you made youtube videos, especially educational ones! Loved this lesson, and Thomas is a legend. Ill be tuning in, thanks for the knowledge 🙏🏻
It's so awesome that you are exploring these grooves. The risk and reward you express as you're playing them mirrors exactly how it feels for me when I encounter an unfamiliar one. This is by no means an easy style to play, especially once you learn that the audience can take it just as fast as you can deal it.
So glad to watch 2 greats drummers studying a pattern from my land CUBA Francisco Mela is a master! For those that love this pattern i can give some tips! the 'CASCARA' (right hand) can be used on HIHAT RIM and RIDE as well ..just depends from the moment / intention of the song! the "CLAVE" has 5 notes and can be played on different places 1 SIDE STICK - 2 TOM - 3 SIDE STICK or TOM FLOOR - 4 (she's not playing but Thomas does) OPEN HIHAT - 5 SNARE practice KICK and LEFT HAND first only ,feel it! and them use the 'CASCARA' or 'COWBELL' pattern or simply QUARTER/ EIGHT NOTES on Right hand sorry by my english ;) try it and enjoy it !
Great how the vibe changes because of the difference in sounds of your kits. This is great . i am a sax/flute player. But the drums are the basis of the song in Latin and funk. The basis on which the song comes from.
You’re missing a note on the left hand pattern from what Thomas demonstrated, unless you’re intentionally making your own thing with the left hand pattern. 😁
That was cool, and it's weird I just started to get curious about Latin music because the other night I was listening to a band through the window of a restaurant, they did have a couple other drums besides the kit, so the guy on the kit was keeping it simple as the other percussion took little parts of the beat, it was awesome!

Think Sade's Sweetest Taboo.. And it most certainly is your culture... We are so far removed from what our culture encompasses many modern percussionist don't realize where funk and jazz come from.. Afro-Cuban Afro-Latin as well, just leave off the Cuban and Latin part. It's African Music. The complex independence needed to create the cross rhythms aka polyrhythms requires practice and patience. I myself have stopped playing other's music unless given the freedom to recreate it. Electronic Percussion technology is taking it to another level.. '22 time to shake things up with some thousand year old African Polyrhythms.. :)
Small suggestion, can you consider presenting your guest by featuring more info about them especially for your followers who may not know anything about them.
PQ, you want to hear that style in an old school song? Check out the style Funkadelic did the song ruclips.net/video/GZECQCQjP38/видео.html A bit slower, but darn sure funky. Go ahead and create a track using that groove beat, you got it. Oh, and I liked the tom hit you did while playing this, that made it Afro Funk. Funk is my FAVORITE genre, I put that sh.... into everything I create, even classical lol.
He’s so humble with the stuff he said to you at the start. That was really sweet. Also, I watched this video before yours and the two of you are wearing the same pants. ruclips.net/video/0Vw1iYAc-sE/видео.htmlsi=TzPoJ-8ZJayC-Vrv (At 22:20)
The lag on youtube is unbearable at this point. The video is almost a full two seconds ahead of the sound. It's like watching Kung Fu theater in the 80s.
8:53 Mark. I ain't a drummer. You actually was accenting. I suggest you hit and feel the vibrations from the hard part behind your ears to catch it. Uuuugh, thumbs 👍???
Thomas Pridgen is a scarily great drummer
Absolutely 🤗
Frightening in fact.
You got my wife watching drum videos on her own .... you are so dope keep this up
Yee! Always good to see Thomas 🙂🙏💛🤙
THIS IS SO SICK
This is a great example of evergreen content. What a great and pivotal video. Salute PQ and Thomas.

@@internetconnection9290 And there's your problem..
It doesn't come from africa. its a cumulation of many colonizer music that was birthed in the americas.
@@internetconnection9290 Latin is actually from italy.
@@chingonbass birthplace is Rome!!
@@sticktrik the real latinos that would probably stab you if your called them Latinx. lol

I am so proud of pocket queen..she has come a long way
Thanks 🙏🏼

Much Gratitude
Thomas Pridgen I salute you ✊
Yep🔥🔥🔥🔥
this was wonderful to watch. Watching you learn " a thing" or two, and have a moment with that killer smile. Thanks for sharing.

Expanding horizons.... fantastic!
I watched both of you. Thank you for all you do for the drum community.
I started my drumming journey in 2017 and Thomas was one of the first drummers I came across. His style and energy are so motivating. Great vide PQ!

Francisco Mela is the man!
Poly Rhythmic meaning every limb playing something different but yet all syncopated in the groove
This was the 1st time I heard this intro with headphones on. Wow. Fire
First time watching and subscribing off the back. This is great!
That groove got season'n !
I learnt something new today. Thomas Pridgen is awesome
That groove sounds like it could have been played on sade' s " the sweetest taboo
Oooooo yess yeah tomas is My héroe the Best drummer

Hey thanks a lot buddy. Do you have any album suggestions or essential artists to jam along to?
Thanks bro can you list some more drummers from Cuba who you consider greats
Awesome,groove.
Such a cool groove! Reminds me a little of a 3/4 groove. You guys killed it! Such tasteful drummers right here!
My fav drummer is the pocket queen
I got too get me a set!!!
Keep up the good work P.Q it 🥁
Thomas Pridgen ❤
At speed it sounds like a funk beat , that is very cool !!!! , Gonna have to break this one down !!!
Nice! Scatting it out first makes an easier transition to the kit..

I was thinking the same thing. Needs one more note to be a “clave”. But that extra note is the easiest part of this hard groove.
Beautiful content 🔥
👍🏿🥂HAPPY HOLIDAYS ✊🏿✌🏿☝🏿💯
Thomas is such a killer player. Nice one, my friend. :) Watch that "two" side ;)
Sit still be quiet, and take this masterclass...I was all up in it and never played a drum set yet...

Kendo World Music Lyrics And Beats 🌎
lil Bang bang PQ ♥ 🔥
This sounds amazing
Crazzzzzzzzyyyyyy
That's good. There's one hit missing on the snare though. That's supposed to be a clave pattern.
🔥🔥🔥
I love that intro song
In the pocket
Looking good 👍 👌 😎 😍

How did you learn this chop so fast pocket queen? It's tricky to the core!
That was cool, and it's weird I just started to get curious about Latin music because the other night I was listening to a band through the window of a restaurant, they did have a couple other drums besides the kit, so the guy on the kit was keeping it simple as the other percussion took little parts of the beat, it was awesome!
Hello pocket Queen i love you!!!! You are missing notes on the clave and on the cascara
Very much so.
She is playing a different pattern, not putting the 2/3 clave on the snare...
Gold sticks!
Wait a minute! Lol u had some type of noise maker for the right hand pattern. He did he's on the rim or the cowbell. Or am I trippin lol?!
I thought i heard a metronome...
I have no idea what this is yet, but I immediately clicked when I saw your name
I love this but the independence required of me is too great, at the moment. I’ll be right back lmao
Next I'm guessing will be Blaque Dynamite 😂
It sounds like highlife from Ghana

Stay in the metricdome timing of it that's the key in my opinion.
HEARING THAT "METRONOME" IS A SOUND THAT I HATE I CAN'T HEAR MY INNER TIME HEART PULSE AND FEEL BEING PURE AND REAL SOUNDS TO ROBOTIC OF A SOUND
Lindeza parabéns gata beijos
Kinda changed the pattern from his original, 😂😂 but fun nd mind-blowing groove. Don't blame ya for the fails 😹😹 but you got it pocket queen 😉✊🏽✌🏽
