- YOB's Mike Scheidt and Bell Witch's Dylan Desmond discuss experimenting in the studio on 'Our Raw Heart' and 'Mirror Reaper.' The latter features a noise track running throughout, while the former played on an old Telecaster with a Bigsby, which went through an old Fender Deluxe Reverb that was subsequently shaken up and thrown at the ground - for five minutes! YOB also played with singing bowls, echoes, and producer Billy Barnett's insanely expensive mic collection, as well as an old cheap Sony microphone that for some reason sounded great. Interview conducted July 4 outside of Toronto's Mod Club, while the bands were on tour together.

I love how they included a 10 second clip of an 80 minute song lmfao
Seeing Yob tonight and Bell Witch next week as it turns out 👌
I saw YOB in Austin and was flying the next day. The band was chilling in the airport and were on my flight - I went up and told them they ripped. Raddest dudes ever! Bullshit briefly and walked away with a new found respect for them.
the mirror reaper album cover is intense...!!!
This cover is beautifull
i saw em on tour when this album had just dropped and were selling a flag version of the entire cover, front and back, all one picture. still kicking myself in the ass for not buying it cuz they arent selling it anymore
noisydope1138 pretty sure they sell that flag on their store at evilgreed.net
@@noisydope I bought a huge poster from the artist itself, it's in his shop.
@@noisydope I got one last summer from their onlone store, or you can get a slightly smaller but higher quality print from the actual artist! His name is Mariusz Lewandowski and the artwork is called "Essence of Freedom"
the spring reverb amp story is maybe the most awesome thing i heard since days.
What an amazing tour. Yob is such an inspiring band.
Art and engineering. Love both of their work. Glad i found this.
I love the animated movements they did with the Our Raw Heart cover as Mike’s describing the recording process lmao
These two clips are some of the best out there with these two dude.
This is great! Bell Witch and YOB are my two favorite bands from my favorite sub-genre of music. It's really cool to see these guys digging each others style.
Slowing down a hail storm...brilliant!
Dylan is so poetic and beautiful
Super interesting! Thanks :)
whoa!!! the reverb abuse!!! awesome!!! I love that kinda stuff...knowing what they did brings me closer to the music....
I used to just kick the shit out my spring reverb amp, sounded awesome.
Also the song "Beauty in falling leaves" has at least one little left field addition ( ? )- Like at 3:25 in the track there's almost like a female vocal part on the one note that could suggest a whole other vocal track that would have fit nicely.
Think Zeppelin and the track "The Battle of Evermore" in which you can't really discern the vocal part that Plant did from the one the Female vocalist did - I get a similar vibe from YOB's song , only there's jut that ONE note, no more.
Still it would have been cool to see a little bit more of that happening with a vocalist like Jarboe or someone else.
( I know it's already been done with Neurosis )
Bring my body
Scott Walker - The Drift
What shirt is Dylan wearing?
T-shirt
Absu.
We do the same thing. Just accumulate noise samples and let them grow
I was inspired by this and went outside with a recording device the other day when there was a torrential downpour haha.
He mentioned they recorded on tape. Which would be cool. But no matter what these days it still gets thrown into protools. Kind of waste of money. I did that once years back and didnt find this out untill mixing time. I was pissed at the producer for keeping that info suppressed and taking my money.
Things got ugly but I got my money back.
First
