The lead singer's name is Paul Carrack. Mike Rutherford was the one in front on guitar and that was his band. He was part of the band Genesis with Phil Collins!
A little informatio for you about Mike & the Mechanics and this song. Mike Rutherford was a founder member of Genesis and formed this band as a side project. He is shown in the video with his young son and on guitar in the live parts. The singer is the fantastic Paul Carrick. Mike wrote this song with a prolific British songwriter B A Robinson. There is a great live version on RUclips (Live at Shephards Bush) which has the same vocalist although he is quite a bit older in it. Well worth checking out - just as emotional. Love and peace, Peter
Mike Rutherford the Mike in Mike and the Mechanics is the bassist and lead guitarist, singer, songwriter who has played with the rock group Genesis since the beginning.
I am currently in my 71st year I only wished I told so many people how they hurt me as a child but honestly I am still here I've learned one thing we are not all the same but need more tolerance and understanding towards each other as adults as children we learn behaviour
I love the line "you can listen as well as you hear"!! Too much back and forth talking without either one really listening or trying to understand. Most times, it's agree to disagree, but at least you learn who we are.
Perhaps some of the division in our country could be fixed if more people got the very personal message in this song. We don't listen anymore. We are too busy "talking in defense", defending our position. None of us know everything - listening is how you learn.
you guys are enjoyable. if you live in the past you can't move forward. Those that you love and care for tell them - tell them now while they are alive - it is too late when they die. we don't know when our time is up; car accident, sudden illness, who knows? Mr Carrick was a singer with the band - Genesis - and when they broke up he struck out on his own. Another very good song, (thought provoking about a lost relationship) is: "All I need is a miracle".
It is brilliant the way the video first shows the children's choir and then later the adult choir. The children have no idea how fast life goes and before they know it, they too will be in the adult choir. Watching you two reacting to this song with your young child in your lap felt really ironic - and great - to me. You both look young when compared to me (I'm 58 yrs old now) but in the blink of an eye, you'll be my age and your young child might very well be a young adult and do a deep dive into this song. Almost like the Circle of Life from the Lion King. Regardless, say it loud and say it clear to everyone you love. Because life goes by fast.
The children in the choir know it by now. Most of them would be in their mid-40s now, at least. And a large portion of the adult choir is likely gone. I was 20 when the song came out and will be 56 tomorrow but it seems like yesterday. I can definitely attest that it goes by quickly.
Awesome video guys 👏. Hey 🙄 I noticed no one on RUclips has done a first-time reaction video to "Existentialism on Prom Night" by Straylight Run. Maybe y'all could be the first ones! 🙄. SUPER Underrated song that has an Evanescence type vibe. Popular during its time, but it doesn't get remembered enough. Released in 2004, but I remember listening to it w/ my high school sweetheart in 2007/2008; the year we graduated. We're still friends now on social media, but obviously moved on a long time ago. We're both married to different people now, and haven't spoke in at least a decade, but the song itself reminds me of that naive, innocent, blissful, youthful time at 17 to 18 yrs old in the final years of HS with your whole life ahead of you and not sure what the future will bring you. You're excited & credulous, and you're spending it with someone else who may or may not be in you future as an older adult years from now. My HS sweetheart was much more mature and smarter than me in HS, and I wish I could've appreciated the beauty of the song a little more at the time like I know she did. A few years later at different colleges junior year she had texted me randomly, and told me she had heard the song at a bar and thought of me. I've never looked at the song the same way again. The song ages better and better with time for me, but that's probably a personal thing. Music is funny sometimes. (The song I'm talking about is early 2000s alt-rock BTW).
Mike is Michael Rutherford from Genesis. Mike + The Mechanics was a side project. Their debut album was chock full of great songs and really put them on the map.
If you don’t like how your parents did it, DO IT DIFFERENTLY…better. Your children will still find fault. We’re ALL different. But we’re ALL made in God’s image. If you have demons from your past…slay them. God WILL be with you and fight FOR YOU. God bless all who read this. Great song, great reaction. My parents are both gone. They were amazing, and flawed…and I’d give anything to hear them again.
No. Sorry, but us old guys do create this. Hard times make strong men. Strong men make good times. Good times make weak men. Weak men make hard times. Repeat. My apologies for the good times leading to the trouble today.
Loved it when it came out. It hits me harder as I'm older. Everything he says is right!

Silent Running and All I Need is A Miracle
The video is perfect the kids choir telling the parents to talk and the parents choir telling their children we will listen and understand 😢
This was my favorite song when I was in high school. Beautiful lesson in the lyrics
Still a fav. Sounds so quintessentially 80s at first but when you listen it hits HARD.
It's just a beautiful sentiment that we can mostly all relate to. Music is the beat that pumps hope into a world without shame.

I love you doing this with your little one in your lap. Whether intentional or accidental - it makes sense.

This hits hard ! A great song and band! ❤️🙏
Paul Carrack is the lead singer, he has a couple of great hits solo but his career started with his group ACE and their song “ How Long”
This song came out my senior year in high school.
It was used in our 1990 video yearbook

Loved your rant...so true...wise heads on young shoulders

Love this song!! Have loved it forever!!
Adam and Eve were the original generational curse. We live in a fallen world. We all need a savior.
Check out "Forever Young" by Rod Stewart.
I think you might like another extremely inspirational song by Brandi Carlisle called 'The Joke" . Love your reactions, Kean
