    I find their cheerful chirping so uplifting - thanks for sharing this.
    I'm looking out for a reasonably priced webcam (?) to record my quail hatch and then as they grow up. I'm so pleased I came across this video :)

    Hi Paul
    Not in a cage or small aviary, Javas are very dominate in an aviary and if you were hoping to breed your Zebras you might have a problem.Also don't house the much smaller Timor Zebra finch from the lesser Sunda islands as they are alot more timid.
    Even though the Normal ( pet shop type ) Zebras are all but bullet proof, the java is one of the biggest manikin species and has a very strong bill. Unpaired broody Java Hens can also become nest raiders,destroying eggs and killing chicks.
    Breeding pairs of Javas and juveniles are very inquisitive and will upset zebras trying to nest ,so watch them .!
    Also with Java sparrows only the domiate pair will breed in a aviary environment ,So best to cage breed them .
    I've bred both Zebras and Javas so if you need any info then just leave a message.
    Cheers Mark

    Just finished watching all your videos, learned alot from them. Have you ever tried keeping canaries with your finches? would this be possible in a finch aviary? or would the canaries be too aggressive? thanks

    • @MARKSFINCHES

      Hamaad Raja
      Canaries will pick every leaf off your plants they are so destructive in a planted fight .lol lots of finches will do this too like java sparrows and weavers. I has bred them in my breeding room years ago ,but there not for me ! They must be the dirtiest bird you could ever have in a flight apart from an ostrich with the squrts. .lol

    I would agree that the plants would be dangerous for Hook bills ,but my Waxbills actually eat and he tips off the ivy and ferns..??? So maybe they can digest a little ,but I'm no expert on the plants ,just the birds..
    Thanks for your comments ,every piece of information is always appreciated and respected.

    you can keep a couple pairs in a mixed collection they will be dominate towards the smaller species like Waxbills and small finches.But I'd rather keep Green singing finches if if was my choice.

      put a cat in the cage jk . might have to lay solid concrete base then put aviary over it

  • @MARKSFINCHES
    @MARKSFINCHES  7 лет назад

    There is always the danger of mice in any aviary or bird room. You just need to be proactive and check your flights and buildings for mice or rats infestation.Mice leave a strong urine smell and droppings around the floor ,so in side you will notice this almost straight away. outside its harder but check the corners and nest boxes every week.
    I have traps under the sheds and poison too. In nearly 6 years I've had mice once and it took roughly about 3 months to eradicate them from the flight.

    Hi i'm looking to start up again, after many years away from having Zebra's, then was only a small cage, i now wanting a outdoor aviary , how do i go about finding a breeder in my local area, which is Merseyside by the way , Thanks,in advance

    • @MARKSFINCHES
      @MARKSFINCHES  7 лет назад

      nelly I'd ask a pet shop or check out the Cage and Aviary newspaper for local events/shows/ clubs and breeders, When you find one breeder then they open you up to a whole community of breeders in your area. Most breeders and keepers are very secretive about what they keep and breed ,so joining your local bird club will help a great deal.

      Mark Thanks for the reply, does seem very secretive hobby haha, was lot easier years ago as my friends Dad had a lovely aviary , thats who got me started, was a child at the time, so later if life they took a back seat as hobbies do,
