Simon's hart and soul was in this master piece of work. Well done Beautifull
Incredibly beautiful cinematography. The ocean and surfing scenes were mesmerizing and gave me goosebumps. I've been living in Japan now for 25 years but grew up in Australia in the 70's. This movie recreates and captures this period in time for me growing up on the coast perfectly. You would think you were transported back to that time when things moved more slowly and life was simpler. Simon Baker reminds me of my brother in law who first took me surfing when I was 17. I never could surf a wave, paddling out in itself was tiring. I'm in awe when I watch them surf. My favorite part is at 1:00:00 when Pikelet, with Sando's (Simon Baker) mentoring and encouragement, overcomes his fear and panic and rides his first true wave. WOW. I love the slow motion scene ending when Pikelet does this.
Simon is a great Director he really connect to people great Cast. Look forward to his next film.
Fantastic film. One of the better ones to come out lately. I was pleasantly surprised.
Love Simon of course!! Breath is so real, how he captures the authenticity of that era with nature, & ocean in beautiful Australia. I’m from the Caribbean 🇯🇲 so I do connect with the beauty of the waves and the small town feel. Of course he’s the Mentalist! My favorite series just binging away during COVID. Fantastic movie! hope to one day see that part of the world!..Please continue acting Simon!🙌🏽

This is on my list of movies to watch. It would be great if Simon would do another series. I keep rewatching the 1st 5 seasons of The mentalist so I do not have to get to the end of season 7. It is fun that Simon and I were both born on July 30th!
Such a great yet simple story well told and well acted. I was transfixed by the way it was shot. Good job!
I wanted to see more Aussie movies and such so when I saw this on the list on Netflix and having read the book, I had to have a look.
I have to say you're hooked really early and don't want to leave. And as a bit of a fan of Richard Roxburgh it was great to see him drift in and out. This has a unique Australian feel and I'm not even into the surfing but I almost wanted to try. This is well worth watching.🇦🇺
I am anxiously awaiting the film here in America! Hope is gets a large distribution so it comes to my small city.

Great movie, I was a fan of the mentalist and I'm an old surfer so I loved it.
He is charming,gorgeous,good actor! I like him,especially his smile!

It brilliantly recreates that time and place. Being Australian, the same age as Tim Winton, and the same age as Pikelet and Loonie would have been at this time in the 70s, it was nostalgic for me - but not in an entirely good way! I bodysurfed, but wasn't a surf board rider (I was never able to stand up on one). Frankly, I hated those waxheads. 'Just jealous', you say? Of course I was, but what do you mean 'just'? The film is especially perceptive in showing how 'being a man' in Australia then could be just as toxic in the surf as on shore, so that even Pikelet and Loonie, who to my teen eyes would seem to have had it made, also had their lives blighted by it.
