Heartbeat

"Heartbeat" is a tape music that is composed from Jan to May 2012. It is six minutes twelve seconds. In the piece, I used Audacity to slightly change sound, Max/MSP to generate sound cluster from single note or multiple notes and Logic to arrange all the materials. The main technology is about inserting different heartbeat rate to influence static sound cluster and slowly fluent melodic contour. The piece describes a process of female from single to wife than become a mother. "Heartbeat" begins with peaceful adult heartbeat rate, which is approximate sixty times per minute. The flute timbre represents grown women. The heartbeat rate that affects on flute part is controlled only in the range of sixty times to hundred times per minute, which is normal adult heartbeat rate range. The speed of heartbeat rate describes the emotional status of the women. The piccolo timbre symbolizes baby. The heartbeat rate also uses baby's rate, which is in the range of about hundreds and fifty times to a hundred and thirty times per minute. The combination of mother's and baby's heartbeat appears in the end of the piece.
