The literal financial boot on the necks of Americans creates an army of wage slaves and mindless workers. We cannot as a country address the larger issues of the country without this.
Not to mention that as automation progresses over the coming years that payment can increase, advancing stability and wellbeing instead of increasing poverty. It's a proposal for a path forward, not a point in time patch on the system.

America, we blew it, now that Andrew Yang, the champion of Universal Basic Income (UBI) has suspended his campaign for president. UBI is the single best policy to address economic and social issues of the nation.
--Economic growth of the nation: UBI would be the boldest implementation of Keynesian macroeconomic policy directly putting the money in consumers hands and creating a “Trickle UP” as opposed to the failed “Trickle Down” policies of the last 40 years.
--Reduce poverty: By definition the $12,000 per person would have raised all Americans to a least what is known as the poverty line.
--Workers: With 94% of all new jobs being gig, temp, or contract work, the American work force is dealing with the stress of uncertainty and variability in monthly income. UBI would provide a reliable base income stream to all Americans citizens. It would also increase the bargaining power of workers reducing the need to take jobs out of desperation. For Union workers it would increase the bargaining power of workers knowing that would have a base income in the event of a strike action.
--Economically depressed communities: Whether they be black communities, brown communities, or any dying communities in middle America. UBI would directly place economic buying power in the citizens of these communities which is the greatest benefit any government policy could bestow on a “community” whether it be black, brown, or mixed. By spending UBI locally/internally it would directly increase the economic activity of the community and provide an economic effect greater than just the direct transfer. Increase economic prosperity would also reduce crime, drug abuse and other social ills in the community.
--Expansion of Social Security as opposed to the current administration hints of contraction of benefits. Probably the largest increase in benefit to seniors since the Social Security’s creation.
--Women: UBI would provide a resource for women to leave destructive relationships. Adopting a policy where the only transferability of UBI is from a non-custodial parent would allow women to directly access the resources of “dead beat dads”.
--Child care and other care giving: UBI would recognize the value of care giving and provide an income for the care giver. This would also give families with children the option to have a stay at home parent instead of sending the children to a day care facility.
--Unwanted pregnancy: It sounds crass but if the male of the species knew his out of wedlock sexual activity would decrease his monthly income via a direct transfer to a custodial parent, the male would think twice about contraception. This would also lead to a decrease in abortion.
--Workable: Noted Harvard economist Greg Mankiw indicated the combination of the UBI and the VAT tax as proposed by Andrew Yang was the most workable of any of the economic reform plans currently being consider partly due to is simple administration.
--Finally, a chance to really make American great again. What made America great was large middle class with purchasing power and the middle class exercising that power to purchase the goods and services of American workers. UBI would have provide the “non 1%” with purchasing power again. Would we as Americans been smart enough to take that second chance and spend with a great preference for American made goods and services? I guess we will never know because America we blew it

Why do you associate a UBI with Keynesian. Implementing it as this point in the economy is the polar opposite. The economy is at a good state so according to Keynes one would have to increase taxes , especially on the rich and reduce depth to give the country more capital to work with in the next Recession.

Dragging it out, and milking every last drop of coverage they can, is exhausting! For primaries, they would just have to start campaigning sooner.
If media started ACTUALLY giving each candidate EQUAL air time, that would help, too! As would, more thorough debates, more internet infrastructure on each candidate's positions and platforms, etc.
Will it ever change? Perhaps someday...but probably not. There's too much money to be made dragging it out for months and months!

It’s been narrowed down to one candidate in each respective party and you’ve been hearing about 2-3 people only since their nomination. I grew up in a small town in NH, and was one of many people counting the ballots for my town in the 2016 general election. It’s an incredibly time consuming task, but it’s so cool to actually see stacks of ballots!

@Joshua Hanson Yea I was thinking maybe two people count. So then you can't get away with counting wrong or walking away with ballots. But if you two teamed up then...there's bound to be a miss-count.

For my town, it was a bunch of three person teams. One person reads each vote, one person records, and one person makes sure the recorder tallies the right thing. First you’re sworn in to uphold the integrity of the election, and to act in good faith. You start by putting all the ballots into a pile of 50, then count all the votes, then make sure all the votes on the tally sheet add up to 50. I’d say there were probably 10 or 15 groups counting when I did it, and it took two days.
Also, paper ballots are huge, so there’s definitely no pocket stuffing 😂

I was just imagining what it would be like if UBI existed in my home country Jamaica and it occurs to me the same benefits would be had here but at a insane increase cuz of our US dollar rate. So in other words getting 1000US$ is quite a lot one can do with that here. Its such a great idea!

I'm sleep, does no one understand economics? Ubi will just undervalue the dollar, and unless companies raise their prices accordingly, the economy will collapse cuz the dollar will be useless. Here's a analogy. If everyone had 1 million dollars, prices would go WAY up because they have to have some form of "value"to that dollar. So if everyone has 1000 dollars monthly, prices will start skyrocketing to retain the value of the dollar. This is why the weimar republic collapsed into fascism. That's why the Russian empire converted to communism, because the dollar was useless and they didn't convert the economy accordingly and then dollars weren't worth shit. Politicians have always tried to get elected with raising the minimum wage, or simply giving out "free money". But u wanna know why they always fail?BECAUSE THATS PAGE 1 ON "HOW TO UNDERVALUE THE DOLLAR 101"

Even still other reporting put the number at 90 plus billion paid back to the government. It appears to be overly complicated with the intent to create doubt. If a number can’t even be agreed upon, how can anyone be sure how a redistribution of capital would impact the economy? One thing seems to be certain, as long as the capital is circulated among the top ruling elite, no one much cares. It’s only when we start talking about universally redistributing capital that the so called “experts” come out to say how terrible it’ll be for the economy. A consumer based economy! Yeah, let’s QE the top rather than help create more consumers cause it’s been working so well so far! Go ahead and let me have it all you experts! One fact you will not have on your side is that an economy as large as the US has already tried this and failed. There is no data because it’s never happened.
