Toyota made a comeback debut at Le Mans last week, June 16-17. It was a great race for them but there are problems. The no.8 TS030, driven by Anthony Davidson, had a collision with a Ferrari gt car near the end of the mulsanne corner and it caused the TS030 to flip over. Ant Davison suffered a broken back from that accident. Gosh, you decide which team/driver caused that. The other TS030 (no.7), driven by Kazuki Nakajima, had a incident in the porsche curves.
Ah, the TS020. Designed by Andre De Cortanze, it re-defined the GT1 rule book by placing its fuel tank in the rules-required "trunk space"( Remember, GT1 cars were SUPPOSED to be high-end super cars!). Prodigously fast in '98 & '99, the GT-ONE's suffered from reliability problems in '98 stopping on course with 2hrs to go. In '99 they were in a shout or victory, but picked up a puncture trying to pass a privateer BMW with less than an hour left. One of my all-time favorite Lemans cars. Cheers!^_^

You are ill-informed my friend!(1) Toyota were amazingly fast at Lemans in '98, LEADING nearly half the race among its three cars. They unfortunatley had mechanical problems with 2hrs to run, battling with the lead Porsche 911 GT1-98.(2) Porsche scored a 1-2 finish that year, at least 8 laps up on the 3rd-place Nissan.(3) Nissan were VERY lucky to get that 3rd-place. They did it through stealth rather than speed.(4) The GT1 cars that raced until 2000 were practically modern GTP/Group C cars!
There's 2 of them actually. One (see what I did there? ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)) is in Toyota's motorsport museum in Köln (Cologne), Germany. The second car is in another museum somewhere in Japan. At least that's what Toyota's engineers say. Or it might be in Sultan of Brunei's collection.

Again, the Germans (Audi R18) takes the gold.
The driver of the no.7 accidently punted off the nissan-powered Delta-wing and caused it to retire afterwards. A rookie error that is. In the 10-12 hours of the race, the no.7 Toyota TS030 suffered a mechanical/engine failure problem after it left the pits. What a shame for Toyota that neither didn't complete the 24 hour race. Hopefully they would have learnt a great lesson from this and shall be stronger next year by introducing 3 TS030's this time in Le Mans!
Imagine pulling up to the dance club in one of these finely engineered machines with the hottest woman in the land as passenger. The valet driver would have to be the stig.
@mhmyup1 Makes me wonder too considering that Mazda had one of the best reliability records of the Le Mans 24hr over the years. The company that has had the best start/finish percentage was Honda, however they have only entered once. Next on that list is supposedly Mazda with their performance sounding better considering how many decades they spent racing in the 24hr. The Mazdaspeed rotaries were consistently the most reliable cars out there when they were racing. It is rather ironic hey! ;-)
I agree, the Ferrari Enzo was a formula 1 model and f-50 design, but the the Enzo is more modern, the gt-1 is not, but the gt-1 looks better in my opinion.

Other way round. The year Mazda won it was favored beyond all sense and reason by special permissions. Organizers were desperate for Japanese participation and allowed Mazda to run a much lighter car than competitors. The advantage for brakes, tires and the new refuling rule made it mathematically impossible for anyone else to win. Mazda only needed to finish. They didn't need to race. Similar scandal lately, is the large diesel intake constrictor, resulting in certain win for Audi's diesel.

@Dragonforce55valley Enzo's design is more practical, it's for the real world. You could hardly drive a Toyota GT-One road car because it had no window, limited view out of the cabin, cramped space, wouldn't be able to handle the potholes and road irregularities and whole lot more.
toyota sucked in 1998 when the Nissan R390 took First then they come back in 1999 and win thats why i used to like 24hr Le Mans and Seabring 12hr now the gt1 class is just not as exciting as it used to be....(no exotics)

i love this car more than any other car/racecar (yes there is 1 street version!) in the entire world.

@NickenTenders Toyota is officially back. They'll be using a hybrid-petrol though. I'm happy as long it's petrol.
Looks more like a LMP than a GT1 but it's in the GT1 class.
It was in the GT1 class in 1998. In 1999 it was actually in the newly created LM GTP class.

@Dragonforce55valley The homologation road versions only exist so that rules (bad ones, imho) could be fulfilled. It's a purpose-built race car.

ラリーでは良い成績を残してるんで、トヨタに市販車作らせたら右に出るものはいないかもしれません。F1を撤退した今、ル・マン優勝が一番実現可能な目標ですよね。ハイブリッドマシンは個人的には好きでは無いのですが、もし優勝できればすごいことです。
でも、マツダの一件があるので、ハイブリッドマシンのチャンスは少ないかもしれませんね。ルール改正はヨーロッパの十八番ですから(笑)
アウディvsプジョーの争いに一石を投じる存在の登場を期待したいですね(^^)

Wrong. The Mazda was much slower than the Mercedes in 1991, but more reliable.
