King Mampuru Royal Family Partner with the Afrikaners, Descendants of 1883 Boer Republics

The royal family of Kgoši Mampuru III held a meeting to forge new partnership between the royal family and the great grand children of the Afrikaner community on Saturday the 22nd November at Mamone Maroteng.

Dirkie Van Der Spuy - a reverend and former Vice President of Dutch Reformed Church in South Africa, mediated on behalf of the Afrikaners church community in Limpopo, Gauteng and Mpumalanga provinces, formerly known as the Northern and Eastern Transvaal regions.
The Dutch church leaders were sent by their Afrikaner community to form partnership that would reconcile the new generation of Afrikaners with the royal family Kgoši Mampuru II who was executed by the Pretoria Boers along with many other prisoners at the then Pretoria Central Prison, now named Kgoši Mampuru II Prison.
The Afrikaners delegation humbly submitted themselves and asked for forgiveness, for the damage caused by their great grandfathers of 1883 Pretoria Boer Republic done to the King of Marota, Kgoši Mampuru II who was executed by the apartheid British colonial government for defending his people against oppression and for defending the Bapedi territorial land.
Dirkie on behalf of the Pretoria Boers who tortured and executed King Mampuru II, publicly humbled himself before the Marota community and asked for forgiveness for the hanging of king of Marota Kgoši Mampuru II and many other by their great grand fathers during the apartheid government.
"We heard in 1883, the Kingdom of the Bapedi was the whole Transvaal (Limpopo, Mpumalanga and Gauteng) from Limpopo river (Lekwe) to the Vaal river (Lebepe)", he said.
Dirkie said South Africa is a country with many blood shed, that's why they have decided to come to King Mampuru II and his people for forgiveness.
"That's why we stand here as Northern Transvaal and Eastern Transvaal Afrikaners representatives, I never heard of this truth since I grew up in the Afrikaans church, I knew the full story through Bishop Lazarus with evidence papers to read, when I first heard and read the story, my heart was broken" said Rev Dirkie.
His Majesty King Mampuru II said they have are gathered the Marota people to revive the memory of their beloved late King Mampuru II and to keep the spirit of the annual commemorative ceremony alive.
"What happened to him (King Mampuru II) that fateful year 1883, those who humiliated him and eventually executed his life and there after decided to hide his grave from his family and community, it only sort to grace his legacy and posterity.
"They were wrong because many people know about our great King than any other King alive. Thank you to Mampuru Day partakers and sponsors"
"Though it was the Afrikaner colonial apartheid government that killed King Mampuru II, today it is the democratic government that has actually honored our great King" Kgoši Mampuru III
Marota King said there is a progressive step by our government that the Marota will forever cherish.
"We were humbled by the government's renaming of Pretoria Central Prison to Kgoši Mampuru II Prison, once again our government renamed Potgierter street in Gauteng, to Kgoši Mampuru street.
The erection of the statue of Kgoši Mampuru here at Maroteng in the royal kraal here in Mamone, will remain and ever reminder that though his mortal remains have been hidden from Marota community, he is still very much with us" said Kgoši Mampuru III
