thank you for that piece of information and the informative video in it's entirety. I appreciate that you got right into it and gave us a simple hands on learning because im going to start buying things like this and was needing to know exactly how specifically to store and preserve foods for long term.
may I suggest plain rice is bland if you want to store something along with your rice and beans soy sauce or any other type of sauces that's already pre-sealed that way when you open up your bags you've got something else in there to eat with it
I appreciate this vid extremely man. The state of the county right now and world has me worried as hell I got and continue to train with my “arms”, began preparing my storage, convincing my folks to consider doing so too.
Those instant potato flakes aren't the ideal type to store long term. You want ones that don't include any oils in the ingredient list that will go rancid. Those Idahoan boxes from Sam's with sunflower oil are a no no in mylar for long term storage. I suggest anyone interested in food storage do their due diligence and learn what is and isnt appropriate for long term storage before making nasty, costly, and dangerous mistakes. Learn the different methods, their specific uses, applications and appropriate use. Also most importantly educate yourself about the dangers of Botulism and how to avoid it.
Thanks for the heads up, I've stored several containers of the "Original" Idahoan and "Original" Great Vaule brand potato flakes in the past but those did NOT have any oils in them (just dried potatos), I didn't realize the "Real Premium" Idahoan ones from Sam' would be different but you are correct!!! I'll be pulling these out and going back to "Original" Brand. Great reminder to alway check the ingredients!
Years ago i made the same mistake you have in this video until i got educated on the difference in mylar bags. Those cheap mylar bags are too thin for long term storage. They will get air through them as opposed to the thickest ones you can get and they do not heat seal as good as the thick ones. The price difference is negligible too.
Just look as serving size, 1 serving per person per meal...figure how many meals per day...that will tell you how long it will sustain you. Yes this would be cheaper than a kit but doesn't allow much variety. I do both. Get a discount on my patriot supply kits at prepwithpilotpatriot.com
Sort of a waste, depending on size of absorber. One trick is to eliminate as much air as possible before sealing. He did it pretty good. Note: the buckets only prevent bugs and rodents not oxygen if you used a quality bag. Wallaby is the best. They allow you to reseal after opening. I do not recommend the one gallon for staples. Too much work.
@gigilaco its similar because the oxy absorber remives the air from the bag. But It's better because the mylar bag protects better than plastic it also doesn't allow in light
Also buy a variety of lentils...why? Store like dry beans... Only soak an hour. Can puree even and make tortillas. Plus offer a varieties of flavors. They are also cheap. Lots of spices and sauces that don't have to be refrigerated after opening. Instant mash potatoes small packets two.....can mix with bulk.....still has flavor, but also adds variety. Or small portions as needed....or even instant rice...same reasons. Always add bay leaves to kill bugs. Don't eat bay leaves. Instant coffee can be found at dollar tree. 1.25 a jar. Taste okay too. Some ideas to help. Believe it or not....also stock up on snack foods. Will break getting bored of foods. Buy foods you will eat.
Having a vacuum sealer with lid vacuum attachment comes in handy. 5 gallon Home Depot buckets with the twist on sealer lids as well. We vacuum seal beans, rice, wheat and other dry good in vacuum bags and keep them in a bucket. Smaller bags are better or a quart jar.
@@MyYTchannel.thenationalrazor If you pay the extra for the plus membership you will earn enough "Sam Club Cash" to pay for your membership. As a prepper I would definitely say its worth it.
@@MyYTchannel.thenationalrazor just depends how much you shop there and if you like buying bulk. I probably don't get the most out of it but it's the only place near me that sells items in these sizes.
Sams and Walmart. For example my Sams did not have lentils but Walmart does. Walmart also has 5 lb bags of flour and Sams doesn’t. The best vid on flour preserving imho is on provident prepper and I watched practically everyone on RUclips. That is one area where the 1 gallon bags are recommended.
i understand bulk supply in 1 Mylar bag....but what if the grid goes down an you cant reseal the lg bag......would you not make portions in smaller bags as to not have to cook 40lbs of beans? cmon guy be real about it! i use 1 gallon screw lid buckets and a reverse manual air pump to seal them with drylock packs aka oxygen absorber packs....an vacuum seal single portions so nothing goes to waste! im not feeding an army
The Mylar is to make it last 30+ years....but if one day you have to open it, ...it's still just dry beans in a airtight bucket lol its not like its gunna go bad over night ......Roll the bag up, close the bucket, and it will keep like that for at least another couple years.....cmon guy But yes I also have 5gal buckets filled with 1 gallon Mylar Bags as well, I've done it both ways
I don't understand how people don't include instant coffee. It might taste horrible, hell you might not even drink coffee. But let's all be fair, if your needing to use your stash, chances are that coffee might be the best thing you taste all day that day. Let's just hope that sort of day never comes.
Could I store food outside in my shed like that. I dont have alot of room inside due to other preps. Like I am just talking beans and rice in mylar bags and then in a tote. It would be like 90 in the summer and 20 in the winter?

Training w your arms is important, but don't skip leg day.
Shouldn't have you put it in the oven at a high temperature to make sure nothing living before you start putting in the bucket like small bug's??
Great job! Thank you for sharing.
How do you heat seal Mylar bags if you don’t have electricity?
@@LoveMyCoffee10 backup power source like battery banks, or go old school and heat up a flat iron with fire and then press seal it that way

Excellent video! Thank you
Just found your channel, great information 👍
Thanks
You really should sort those beans. I buy those same bags from Sams and in almost every bag I have found bad spoiled beans.
And rocks!
Good video. Might be better off throwing in a moister absorber in with the sugar rather than an 02 absorber.
Good and helpful info. Thanks!
You're welcome!
Can I leave my beans in their bags and place the bags in air tight buckets?
What setting do you do the hair straightener for?
I saw one channel that recommended 350 degrees. Hot enough to seal but not so hot it burned the Mylar bags.

Would you say doubling up on the 02 absorbers for the gallon a plus or just a waste

Great advice! How does this compare to vacuum sealing?
@gigilaco its similar because the oxy absorber remives the air from the bag. But It's better because the mylar bag protects better than plastic it also doesn't allow in light

Question on the day of emergency when you open the bag for the first time. Will the 5gal bucket be able to store the food as you are eating it?
Yes! You could also just reseal the bag
