I love the contrast on that inverted finish. Beautiful.
Thank you!
Matt's kydex videos are the best on RUclips. It's as simple as that
Man thank you!!!
Hey brother, appreciate the videos and tips.
One suggestion: I do the thumb fold with the knife in the sheath to prevent it from deforming in unwanted directions and get the comfortable thumb press without needing to modify that area further.
Take care!
TD
Good idea I’ll try that!
I also use a heat gun which is likely less risk than open flame on plastics and other deformable materials
Thank You for sharing all you knowledge with newbies like myself. Last weekend I had the pleasure of meeting Bryan. He tells me you work together often.
He’s a great friend! And thank you for watching!
Dude, your OG kydex videos helped me tremendously - I started last weekend and went nuts: 2 knives (Izula and Izula II) in taco style (one normal, one very minimal), one sandwich for a multi tool because I had some small scraps, and I even made a sheath for my wife’s garden shears lol - sort of an inverted taco (fold at the bottom) because she wanted pretty light retention and that made it pretty easy to tune from the bottom-up.
Anyway, thanks for the great videos!
… and that blade finish and profile is sick! Good luck with the auction!
Great to hear! Thank you !!
@@gentrycustomknives8008Kydex is so fun and satisfying to work with that it’s a good thing I’m on vacation right, or my wife might come home from work to find every kitchen utensil has its own sheath.
Id almost forgotten how much I appreciate watching you at your craft. You are one of a kind and truly my inspiration for giving it a try. The more I try the more I appreciate just how good you are! Not trying to fluff yah up too much but yah, you've got undeniable skills man! Was the white in the handle anything special like bone or ..?? It was so nice and ivory white I loved it! I found some sections of moose antler that were soooo white! unfortunately you don't get big thick sections of it. Guess i'll have to dip into your channel more often again now that I at least half understand whats going on now :)
Thank you so much! Those white handles are g10
I like the “Hey bear” music 😂 thanks for the tips man
👊👊👊
Vids on kydex are awesome. So many variables. So much to learn how to tweek.
Great video, two tone finish looks awesome
Thank you!!
BRILLIANT AS ALWAYS! GREAT VIDEO!
Really appreciate it!!!
Been watching your videos for a while now.. just want to say thanks. Had a couple of self forged steels that i didnt want to "f" up but i took the plunge to freehand grind with tips from you.. throw the jig away! I know ill mess one up but just like a good carpenter you know how to hide mistakes. Thanks keep grinding!
Thanks for watching!!!
Love the content!!! Always learn really appreciate it!! One thought to share is you can get a cheap plastic welding torch, it hooks to shop air. Air adjustment helps control temp/ distance from plastic. I think it could really help with Kydex forming. Just a thought. One thing to remember always unplug and let fully air cool before shutting off air to save element. Hope this can add a neat tool and help. I have one and love it…..if harbor freight in your area.
Interesting I’ll have to look into that!!
Great video!
Thank you!
Great video! Thanks man! Beautiful knife!🔥
Thanks a lot man!!!
This style of video works great. Great knife by the way.
Thank you!
Terrific tips. Just got the foam in the mail to build a press. Been slow to make the transition to Kydex from leather. I'll be sure to go over all your sheath vids to make sure I don't waste everything. This style of video works great in my opinion, thanks for the training!👍
Terrific tips. Building my press soon. Just got the thermofoam from Maritime Knife Supply. Been slow to migrate to Kydex from leather. I'll be sure to go over all your sheath videos again before wasting everything. This style of video works great in my opinion!👍
Perfect timing on this video man. Big fan of your work and videos. I'm currently working on the kydex for a compact kukri knife and I've tried molding it no less than 9 times already. I use the gap spacer for any recurves but still having issues. Hopefully this video will help, thanks!
Man that would be a tricky blade to get right!
It's proving to be very tricky, but you gave me an idea that I think will work. I appreciate your videos and sharing your knowledge
My kydex isn’t nearly as refined as yours but I’ve used your videos as a guide for mine. What I’ve started doing is taking the kydex to 400 grit on the grinder. Pinching that first rivet for gauge lockup. Then onto kydex buffing wheels which are Scotch-Brite wheels. This step lets me finish and debur the kydex. I then wash out the sheath and use bits of paper towel to wipe the inside. Then I river the sheath together and do the thumb ramp.
Hello, just made a kydex n for the h@@@ of it I couldnt get the inside of the holes deburred properly...used a box cutter ... Then sandpaper...but didnt work well...maybe its the kydex...some cheap crap I got off Ebay a while back....anyways...But then I thought I check back with you n your awesome videos n how u do it.... Did I miss it but I think u never showed how u do it...what do u use to get the inside/holes deburred?! Sometimes its needed when a burr keeps the sheath from closing 100% after grinding it n all.... Thx
I'm gunna scratch it 5 minutes after I get it .. 😅😅😅😅.
I don't like the clips that i see on kydex sheaths.
I started mixing kydex and leather. Using the leather as the loop for the belt.
What kind of clip is that? Ulti clip 2.2”?
Basically
I was just watching Melissa backwoods and seen where someone copied your pocket muck. They are calling it the muk and selling it for 49 dollars. Don't people just piss you off
That’s my collaboration with Boker
@@gentrycustomknives8008 ok that's good I was cussing someone out for no reason LOL. I didn't know you were doing that it was a nice looking knife. Not as nice looking as Melissa 😁
Wouldnt use water in areas where its known to be 'hard water'....have that Problem here....when it dries what u can end up with is minerals inside the sheath that scratch your blade up bad ...been there....sucks....I use demineralized water on my kydex sheaths if cleaning is needed....
I dry them out good with compressed air so that shouldn’t matter
@@gentrycustomknives8008 Maybe thats the step I lacked. Thx for pointing that Out 👍👌
Im a new follower. new to making knives. Are you on Facebook or Instagram?
