The people who do this should go to prison and be put in solitary confinement for the same amount of time that the poor dog has suffered. They are a despicable excuse for a human being. Thank the Lord for Takis.❤❤

This Greek mentality of chaining dogs is a CRIME. This can't go on.
A high percentage of people over there think of dogs as an object to use and neglect. There are no followed laws for animal abuse, The authorities must make mandatory prison sentences for these people.

You have to wonder what was the point of having the dog out in the middle of the field in a shelter it was the strangest thing. Was it supposed to be a guard dog?
I remember .i removed 4 dogs from abusers ..in separate occasions ..hey ..i was the one who got charge with police ..i dont care if i see a animal wanting help i will do it again for that dog .i couldnt care less about police ...thanks takis ..🐕👍👍❤❤🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏

There is no simple solution to this, it is a deeply ingrained cultural malaise it would take a concentrated effort on many levels over generations to change attitudes, the political and cultural institutions will not expend the required effort to achieve the desired result. Severe punishment will just drive it out of sight and the rescue of such animals will cease as they are killed instead of abandoned.

Poor dog, terrified to even move - another one abused by humans, so scared. It’s a sad world we live in & thank heavens for a man like Takis who really cares about animals. I took on a shelter dog last year from Spain so I can’t adopt another but I do donate to the shelter. If you can please support Takis in anyway you can.❤❤❤

Yes, but.... who will rehabilitate, socialize and adopt all those dogs? The spay-neuter law is not being enforced, the German vet volunteer who did free spay-neuters for 10 years lost his work space and is now sharing space with a local vet... So the recent changes made will lead to more unwanted puppies in rubbish bins, more unchained dogs needing rehabilitation, all private animal shelters on Crete full but still accepting animals, municipal shelters refusing or accepting? I agree with you, but more needs to be done ASAP to stop the backyard and chicken coop puppy mills. 😢
@@cs5414 It certainly is a large scale problem but if there were enough people who cared on Crete to volunteer to look for these dogs, then I’m sure there would be those amongst the volunteers willing to adopt. Even if just a few dogs were found this way then it’s a positive.

All that dog has known it's whole life so far is that shelter, you can tell because even though it's a horrible place he wants to get back in there and hide. He hasn't had human interaction he is just left there by himself 😢

Sadly, if this ‘kennel’ is to be revisited in a few months, it is pretty much guaranteed that another dog will be suffering the same fate. I know….I have rescued and experienced this situation. It is so sad.

Have you ever gone back though to a place from where you saved a dog from living his whole life in a chain? After you rescued one, do those people (if you can call them that) just get a new dog and chain it?

The pet carrier box is a confined space, just like the box he's been living in, perhaps that's why he felt safe being in the pet carrier. It has a familiarity about it, might not want to come out when he gets back to the shelter.
